Redditor thing mostly. ZZZ is blatantly shameless about fanservice which made it popular unsurprisingly. That, in turn, somehow convinced the Genshin team to dial their fanservice up

Sometimes played straight with jiggle physics up the wazoo. Ceasar's animations whenever you scroll too far in the agents' menu are a bit...distracting.
Sometimes it's played for laughs with the overt sexual humor like Zhu Yuan and the MC watching taped porn all day...as you do. Yanagi mentions something about Bangaboos twerking on tape and in the main hub area, you can come across some weird BDSM Bangaboo statue.
Inb4 they add excessive jiggle physics like in WuWa. But in hindsight it is kinda funny when you consider that Genshin at one point were mandated by law to tone it down - and the fanservice wasn't even that bad.
Anyway, finished Sumeru's main quest. Wanderer is an annoying lil shit but his giant fuck-you Gundam was cool as fuck. Same with the music although my dumb ass was completely confused at first.
Plus I get rewarded with more Dain which is good because he's my favorite part that doesn't pertain to the archon shit or the world quests.
So now it's onwards to Fontaine - in earnest!
Did the Lantern Rite event and it was alright. More Yun Jin singing is always welcomed and Hu Tao is fun. I sort of regret pulling for Nahida instead of her ngl. It sort of spoilered some Natlan stuff but without context so it's not too bad.

Yeah, they recover HP. There was a bug I came across with trying to kill one of those strong ass monsters. I believe it was the Lumiscale one. There's a hot spring near it and if you managed to lure it in, it would kill it.

"gooning" is the zoomer/advertiser friendly version of coomer, aka someone with masturbation and porn addiction.
Like most internet things, it started with as an inside joke that then turned mainstream and lost all meaning. r/gooned was created around 2019-20 (i think) and currently has 1.9 mil subs. After that the whole "goon cave" meme spread to other websites, including viral tweets and becoming the popular insult rn.
I'd say it's still used ironically by zoomers because it sounds funny and being horny is a relatable onlien but also unironically to generically insult anyone on the other side of internet culture war.
Gacha communities in general have a part of their fanbase be horny on main so they call themselves gooner and get called often. I dont think hoyo games are remotely close to the actual pedo and gooner gacha out there but Genshin and ZZZ definitely upped the fanservice standards recently.

The only normal genshin players i ever seen online are the normie casuals minding their own business and this kiwi thread, reddit youtube tumblr and twitter are plagued. I like how this is the onyl place i can have a chill talk about genshin without meeting elitists, gooners, shipers or other type of extreme autism.
It's fascinating seeing redditors bitching and moaning any time a female character looks fanservicey. And then when Arle was released they were falling over each other trying to say how excited they were for "A WOMAN WEARING PANTS!!!". And of course they're always thirsting over male characters and freaking out when the ratio of characters released is more female than male. The point of all this being, why are those online gacha communities so fucking gay when the overall revenue numbers show that the broader playerbase doesn't care at all?
There's also the segment of people that are 110% convinced hoyo is racist because their dark skinned characters aren't good yet somehow can't just quit the game, but that's a whole other thing.

Sex sells. Asians whale the hardest. It's Asia first with a majority male player base. And in my experience, western males are just as horny but you got the loud minority screaming and moaning about MUH gays and MUH female empowerment and MUH objectification when the entire point of them is that people like appealing designs.

Yes, most "safe" communities are filled with females, faggots and soyboy larpers wanting less sex, less women, more representation and more men in the game. These places are also filled with people looking for any cudgel to beat genshin with to cope with the fact they switched games so you will see the "genshin could never" crowd use any drop of "fanservice" as a bad point for why the game is bad now but also look you right in the face and tell you how better ZZZ/HSR is.

Mihoyo is notorious for lesbian baiting the fuck out of everything, they've been doing it since their very first game. It's always a "Oh wow these girls are always doing things together, makes ya think doesn't it?" kind of deal, which allows them to dodge the Chinese government slapping them down while declaring "No faggots". HI3 fans are extra insufferable because of this and they infect HSR discussion on the regular with this bullshit.
Fontaine has a good start if you like Phoenix Wright style games, but the middle part involving the Fortress of Meropide is a fucking slog. I found the ending and Furina's story quest to be really good.
I finished the lantern rite stuff, good shit except I hate that people are going to miss out on what is effectively Hu Tao's second story quest.

Many large subreddits have some degree of ironic self depreciation with serious defensiveness and the genshin sub is no different. Story criticism is okay but skipping means admiting the game is bad so it's not allowed. Artifact rng is cancer but people still keep dying on the hill that "We don't need artifact loadouts and you're asking too much" and any way to ensure rolls would "kill the endgame".

People were shipping Navia with Clorinde since the original Fontaine trailer SOLELY because they were the two tall females shown and nothing else. Hoyo would actually DO queerbait by having them hangout often in promotional material, give clorinde some shallow angst and even the voice actors actually support the ship but the shippers would've hsipepd them regardless because they don't care.
Genshin fandom has one of the worst cases of "shippers for the sake of shipping" out there. One of the most bizarre examples is Shenhe/Yelan being weirdly popular (they don't know the other one exists) and are shipped solely because, i kid you not, they look like the lesbian version of Chongyun and Xinqiu.
It starts strong and ends with argueably the highest emotional beats of all archon quests but the court sessions can be boring if you hate that gameplay and the whole "prison week arc" in the middle is (IMO) the most boring shit ever, i legit just put phones and watched something else while mashing.
God forbid there is any sort of heterosexuality implied in these fandoms. The shippers suggest a ship between Ayato and Miko? The others have a tard meltdown because Ayato is "a gay man".

It really is. Aside from the boring prison arc mentioned by the other users on here, the reveals and payoff are actually pretty good. It's part of the reason why people love Furina so much (aside from her being a very strong unit).

Sorry, this will be quite a rambling from me. But more or less, it's me disliking internet language usage over time and comes with new generation being raised on it.
But in general, it is used as a typical criticism dismissing toward female character design (appearance and/or personality).
Answer is both.
Unfortunate state of internet using language, language is deteriorate over the time and typical certain older words are icky to say. It doesn't help that, lots of parents are neglecting their responsibilities and letting internet raising their children instead. And how internet is weirdly woke-leaning on mainstream social media, yet sharing space with unfiltered horny like on Twitter.
The last would be, lots of people "love" to judge others on extreme degree or level of certain things. It's usually that they can feel good or superior about themselves.
Basically any form of ecchi, horny design, fanservice for men like asmr (ZZZ Jane Doe anime trailer), panting or "hurting/moaning" sound, cleavage, butts shot, jiggle effect, skin tight outfits and some variable of bare midriff - thighs is considering as gooning to lots of these people.
For me, I define "gooning" as in more of bikini mod, model adjust mod (bigger breasts and butts) and nudity mod in video games. Because lets say for example fighting games female characters aren't eye candy enough for degenerates, so they have to mod those in. Or portion of Skyrim mods. Or well, porn.
ZZZ is the more shamelessly of MHY big three. The other less popular MHY games are also blatantly very fanservice themselves, but nobody complains about these because "no one" is playing them.
