This is the lunatic who helped get my account nuked on Wikipedia. Of course, there were a few others in the kangaroo court that banned me, despite acknowledging my edits were good, but I remember this person particularly. IIRC, her Wiki page offers zero cover for her bias toward LGBTQ+ issues, stating they're hoping to improve visibility on Wikipedia.

My current (2016–present) focus on Wikipedia is improving representation of marginalized people. Transgender/nonbinary people and Black people are my priorities.

i wasnt a normal poster at the time and people will probably disagree but it seems to me that what happened is less a foreign influx and more the left wing shit ruining the internet and no longer accepting tolerance but wanting total control that led to posters and management just turning against all that naturally. it is still odd though seeing the difference i say its a testament to how toxic and corrosive trannies really are since in the sort of lolcow covering sphere other groups actually used to constantly mock kf for not hating trannies enough. i think elliot actually does know this but chooses to ignore their role in turning cultures against them

Yeah, that’s always been my feeling. Either it was far worse than Dong is saying, or the person was such a fucking nutjar that it’s dubious whether they could give consent.

As for whether what happened, whatever it might be, counts as rape or not, I think it’s semantics. A sexual encounter happened in which Dong did something non-consensual. Consent isn’t exactly hard to ascertain. It might as well be rape.

For what it's worth, I used to be much more traditionally "left leaning" back then (free speech type liberalism). I'm sure a lot of people here were. My experiences in the real-world are what shaped me into the cynical fuck I am today. I still wouldn't call myself right leaning though.

I think the labels themselves and society's perceptions of them are what changed.

It is January 2025, which marks 3 years since I landed in Australia as a permanent resident. Unfortunately, my resident return travel facility expires not 5 years from initial landing, but 5 years from the initial visa grant which occurred in Nov 2020.

In order to get an automatic 5-year renewal, I'd need to have spent 2 years onshore since Nov 2020, but I have not been able to do that given the abridged timeline and the fact I split my time between here and Canada. Thus, to get my travel facility renewed 1 year at a time (until I become a citizen), I need to get referee letters to show I have "substantial ties to Australia that are of benefit to Australia".

If you've benefited from having me speak at your event in Australia, or from having me do work to support you from onshore with your SRE, OpenTelemetry, or Honeycomb journey, please let me know if you'd like to write a referee letter. Bonus points if you're an ACS (Australian Computer Society) member, as that's the locally recognised body for our profession.
