"Bantam" men, who were virtually annihilated during the Battles of the Somme and the Cambrai respectively. Heavy casualties, transfers to specialized Army tunneling companies and tank regiments, the introduction of conscription, and replacements by taller men, eventually led to Bantam units becoming indistinguishable from other British divisions.

IT NEVER BEGAN FOR BANTAMCELS

In all due respect to the "Bantam" men, every single other native British regiment during the First World War also got utterly oblierated to the point where by late 1918 only about 10% - 15% of the orignal soldiers going in were still around and not being supplimented by Canadians, Australians, Americans, extra Frenchies, etc.

If their goal was to die for the Empire in a quasi-dynastic war like the taller knights of yore did, then mission accomplished I guess.

Remember Mike Sparks? The military "reformer" who wanted to put wings on the venerable M113—sorry, the creator of the M113A8 Aero-Gavin? The man who believes James Bond is real? No? Well, let's take a peek at some of his profound musings.
