I think whats interesting about this is that Valve is more than capable of making changes in the right direction if they actually wanted

Latest TF2 comic apparently wasn't a thing a year or so ago until someone at Valve finally snapped fingers and told them to get to work

So current sad state of TF2 can be resolved, but only if some higherup at Valve actually gives a shit to put the effort into setting things straight

everytime I hear thewhat, greatblue, elmaxo etc speak, something in my brain says "this person is 5 feet tall and a twig".
they all have that tf2 youtube speech pattern and style, the one that makes them sound like a fag.

So, another "MRswipez1 vs. NickiCheetah" vid dropped:


For those that don't know; Swipez is a fairly popular TF2 Youtuber who keeps getting raided by a furry known as "NickiCheetah"; most of the time, the furfag tried to join Swipez's games while the YouTuber is streaming and wave a Conscientious Objector sign with a porn spray around. Basically, the furfag's trying to get the guy demonetized and in trouble for... whatever reason.

Anyways, the whole thing's been going on for several years now; it'ss gotten to the point where Swipez has started putting animations and such in his vids where his main - a Spy - tends to main Cheetah's character - a Pyro with a pink fox hood - in various ways. Even got to the point where he (Swipez) has a custom Yakuza 0 playthrough with said characters, alongside others. Anyone's curious, feel free to check it out:

That's one of the reasons I quit long ago. Soldier wasn't my favorite character but they butchered him. Even back then, I could see the rot set in across the entire industry, and no amount of Australium could keep it healthy.

The comic was pretty rushed and all over the place, but at least we finally got it.

Honestly I couldn't agree more. I love the comics and I appreciate the characters as they are now, but man the game was a lot more charming and whimsical when the characters were representative archetypes and not actual people, and when the plot seemed a lot larger and more expansive than the one we got.
 
I will say it is really funny when Overwatch posted their Holiday comic around the same day, since it doesn't really have the same oomph to it that TF2 had.

Though I am sure this is said many times, I think it is hilarious that TF2 outlasted Overwatch because I remember before OW came out, some TF2 channels said it will be the TF2 killer when Overwatch slowly lost its cultural impact as the only thing it had over TF2 was becoming a porn category.

Not to mention we didn't expect the comic to begin with. It did try to say something about holding on for too long, and whether the fighting had a point in the first place, even implying that the mercs got replaced multiple times yet are the only ones still around. In the end, though, what's going to kill the game is time. Even if its (real) player base never drops to zero, the TF2 we knew is already gone. It's become a zombie caricature of its former self. That said, its cultural impact will live on, for better or worse. Overwatch itself "inherited" some of TF2's traits. You could argue that things like loot boxes and Pixar-esque, cartoony art styles (both of which were popularized by the game) will remain mainstays, but who knows.

Nothing lasts forever.

Accurate. Still hilarious to watch Nicki get his shit pushed in, though; the guy's got a reputation for shoving tons of porn on TF2. Swipez isn't the only YouTuber who's dealt with the furfag, and there's been a few other YouTubers that've dealt with the furfag previously. Mostly via stream sniping; even then, the furfag still gets his ass kicked most of the time.

Not helping matters is Nicki trying to make it seem like he's the better player on YouTube; yes, the furry's got a channel, and it's filled with clips of him getting his ass kicked and subsequently trying to edit the clips to make him look good. https://www.youtube.com/@NickiCheetah/videos

Even on YT, the furfag still gets roasted pretty frequently; even his own channel gets comments calling his dumb ass out. I think he might've gotten banned previously on Steam, his FA account's gone, and even Reddit's pissed on him once or twice. Frankly, I can't help but think that this might just be a huge trolling thing, but... it wouldn't surprise me if this was an actual furfag trying to get famous in the dumbest of ways.
 
I hope for a comics omnibus, but im actually starting to read them more. i can definitely see a tonal shift but i find it more gradual and nuanced than others do. To me TF2 has had multiple eras and each era has had varying forms its taken

1) The Release day tone I feel was tongue in cheeky, gritty spy movie but with a comedic flair. The art style and dialogue and other forms of release added a sarcastic kind of humor. The story wasnt yet ready to go all full comedic and characters like Saxton Hale were usually frauds or personas meant to sell faulty equipment. A very satirical style of game. You could mistake TF2 for a game like XIII where it does take it seriously

2) The Mann Co era where they started emphasizing the wacky storylines, but that the wacky storylines were always done sarcastically or in the form of dreams. The joke of the promo material in this era was how it DIDNT resemble the games. Think about how Meet the Spy while it has comedy it's used as the punchline to the seriousness or to build up or pay off drama or foreshadowing

3) The more Portal-era Valve sense of humor where the over the top quirk is part of the humor, and the ridiculous stuff becomes part of the lore. This is then balanced by trying to take aspects of its dramatic lore super seriously, I call it Undertale syndrome
 
Looking back at some of the past eras:

1) 2007-2010: Release to the Mac Update. The silliest things produced: Meet the Sandvich, first Halloween event, Jarate, Demoknight, Max head, Earbuds.

2) 2010-2013: Engineer Update to Smissmas 2013. From here we got Gunslinger, Scream Fortresses, Meet the Medic (arguably when the lol random humor really started), Meet the Pyro, Smissmas, Mann vs. Machine (Grey Mann was raised by eagles), Comics #1-2 (with Tom Jones, Spy's teeth dinner, talking Eyelander, lamp lawyer)

3) 2014-Now: Love & War to Jungle Inferno & beyond. Expiration Date took the lol random humor up to eleven with the bread monsters. Comics also had stuff like Amelia Earhart's hot dog costume. The game got dance taunts, Pyro farting, Boxtrot, bumper cars.

I guess we can be grateful that despite all of the randomness, the writing is still entertaining, even if Reddit has repeated Expiration Date a million times.

Shoulder cosmetics started with Archimedes, which was Meet the Medic's fault.

The rest aren't the fault of MTP so much as idiots misunderstanding the point of MTP. Pyro is still a terrifying sociopath, but now we know he has an incredibly distorted view of reality. It'a a joke that was lost on a lot of people apparently.
 
I'm just glad Spy is too powerful for any faggotry to have affected him, aside from the gay-ass fan theories being confirmed in the comics.
