With most lolcows, it's pretty obvious why they are they way they are when you look at their upbringings/early lives: generally, they tend to come from broken/fundamentally messed up homes, be born with serious mental/physical abnormalities, and/or grow up under enabler parents who never properly disciplined them, but this doesn't seem to be the case with Phil. He grew up in your typical middle-class suburban household, and while his parents probably spoiled him a bit as a kid they didn't seem to be Bossmanjack-tier enablers; they were willing to punish him when he crashed his car, so it's not as if they were letting him run hog wild doing whatever he wanted without consequence.
Which just begs the question of how exactly Phil got to be such a massive egotistical asshole. It's true that some people are just born-dicks, but Phil is extreme even by born-dick standards, and he seems to have been that way right out of the gate. You go back 20 years to tophaters.com and Evo and Phil is exactly the same obnoxious jackass he is today, snorts and all. Hell even as far back as age 13, with the Wolverine story, the guy was an entitled prick.

I don't think we really know that much about Phil's childhood. If nothing else, his mom coddled him to the point of brushing his hair until he was well into his teens.

Just like Jaha said when he was talking with the SoK: Phil is all tough when he is online but when you meet him at a tournament he is quiet as a mouse. Considering guys like Jaha run around I can believe it (Jaha also mentioned he once did a "This is SPARTA routine and knocked down Phil with a Sparta shield and Phil rolled around after getting hit and then yelled "did you see that??" to the organizers)

You reminded me of a funny story involving a DSP lore side character. I went to the China Town Fair arcade in NYC one time and J. Wong was running money matches at the Tekken Cab (I think it was Tekken 5 that was new at the time). There was a big crowd around the cab and a large urban-style individual who was obviously hired by Justin as personal security, because he was not looking at the game, just looking at the crowd of people with his arms folded like a human pillar at Justin's side. The manager of that arcade was an old Chinese man who kept his pet chicken in his little office with him. The rumor was that the chicken could play tic-tac-toe, but I never saw that. I did see the chicken though. DSP probably remembers the chicken too.

I think some parts of the story he embellished but he was the type of kid who'd throw a motherload of a tantrum when being told no. A few years ago I remember he did a reack of old Christmas commercials and without fail 90% if a toy came out in the late 80's or early to mid 90's, he mentioned having the toy.

He's also a terrible actor.

We can always tell when he is making some shit up and also when he is lying which isn't hard since whenever he breathes, he lies. The trick is to figure out where the lie...lies.

But yeah, his Wolverine saga rings as a true and authentic story style tale but I'm willing to bet some of the fiddly bits are fabrications. I kind of doubt he mouthed off to his folks...or not as emphatically as he claimed to.

2024 has been the best year of dsp so far imo. I think the only thing that can top it at this point would be an IRS arc or a boogie-style Hassle encounter.

He isn't writing articles so no idea why he would pay for the premium+ one the normal blue check is the same price but I guess it wouldn't surprise me knowing DSP that he pays for the most expensive shit for no reason.

It seems very possible that the next bankruptcy will happen in 2026. The junk spending that we’re seeing + doubtless much more junk spending behind the scenes + ongoing addiction spending in Champions + increasing struggle to find new whales = disaster
