Maybe I zoned out, but did they even attempt to explain that shit in the slightest? Why is the dragon 8-bit? Does the blacksmith really moonlight as a rave DJ for the clan of diggers?

The Ajaw we see is not real ajaw, he's sealed inside Kinich's wristwatch (some random relic he found in ruins) and Kinich made a deal with him. The pixel thing you see is a low res phlogiston projection that somehow attacks with him (teyvat has it's own laws).

The miner clan all ove breakdancing and music so they have sound system and raves, its just their thing. That's why kachina breakdances and Xilonen is a DJ. Altho Xilonen demo cheats because nothing we see is ever as extreme as that night rave.

In the game's defense, the inuniverse explanation is that Phlogiston is a magic energy source that lets you create technology that "represents your fighting spirit", meaning machinery that relates to the tribe themes.

In the game's offense, i don't think anyone ever registered phlogiston as anything more than "weird lava fuel" and the tech is super arbitrary. It simply doesn't have the same inherent fantasy flavor as steampunk.

The problem is that Natlan was never hyped as this high tech land like Fontaine and Hoyo still pretends it isn't high tech.

One big lore point is how kameras are only made in Fontaine but there is no logical reason Natlan can't make cameras when they can make shit like jetpacks (see chasca story quest).

Xilonen is Teyvats own Tony Stark, making all the out of place tech apparently.

Not playing much after Natlan came out, it's out of place in specifically Natlan but Teyvat as a whole is full of sentient robots, autonomous machines and a Gundam boss fights. Lets not pretend the tech in Genshin isn't all over the place.

Saying Natlan is high tech while ignoring the fact that most people in Natlan aside from a handful of vision-bearers are doing thier Dances With Wolves routine, recording their history into weaved scrolls and living in huts or log housing.

Teyvat as a whole is full of sentient robots, autonomous machines and a Gundam boss fight
True, but then stuff like the golems and automatons are things you tend to see in fantasy settings, so it's not really seen as out of place in Genshin.

Could just be me not having a lot of exposure to other fantasy settings but things like 8-bit, and a modern motorcycle are not things you tend to see in fantasy. Which is the gripe that a lot of people have with Natlan, all the modern-era things feeling out of place in a fantasy setting.

there's a difference between "it's magic, ain't gonna explain shit" and "it's tech we know and how it works so the context makes no sense". no one besides the fatui knows how ruin guards work, fontaine is basically steam/magipunk based on some fantasy antimatter (that only works there), the wanderer fight is just that dialed up to 11 to become a new archon (and be an appropriate bossfight). the rest is usually some relic stuff from centuries ago (and yeah that shouldn't work anymore either, but suspension of disbelief still works for that).

EDIT: fontaine and sumeru also have the explanation of "science" behind it, both came from the institute and the academia. natlan tribes being basically mudhut sandniggers otherwise but technically advanced clashes with the overall logic of worldbuilding. if you have all that tech or can at least think about it with the help of magic lava, it would inevitably be reflected in the average living standard. like you can make up a dj table but not something so you don't have to shit in a hole somewhere due to the lack of plumbing?
granted that's criticism of high-level nerd territory and they probably didn't think about it that much and just went with their own "rule of cool" (lot of chinese/korea stuff works this way I've noticed), so I can't knock them too hard for that. but even normalfags follow that logic somewhat even if they consciously don't understand why it feels "off".

that's why mavuika using a bike of all things doesn't make much sense, because the next questions inevitable are "what's the fuel? where does she drive it? why does she need it in the first place after going super saiyan in the capitano fight? how would she even have the concept of a bike?" and that's where the suspension of disbelief stops. it might not even be that bad in itself, but it's topping off everything else in natlan people had issues with.
imho it's also less the designs etc. itself, just how it fits into the rest of genshin. after 4 years lot of people have certain perception (granted this isn't always a good thing because it easily leads to "new bad, old good"), while some don't care and see no issue, same way legolas going full super mario in the hobbit didn't bother everyone equally...

fwiw it's just temporary, there are only 1-2 natlan zones left, feedback or not. unless they go full off the rails I expect not!russia to be more grounded again, even with the new direction or team or whatever.

my personal theory on this is that they're probably rejects from hsr/zzz. they certainly look like they'd fit much better in those games
depends if hoyo has separate design teams and not just one and then picks and choses what goes where. doesn't explain anything else tho.

I assume they didn't want to go too much grimderp with the war theme (civil war might be a bit too spicy for china), and kinda soft-reboot 5.0 for new people, going by ZZZ thinking that's what people want/is popular or whatever (which didn't work that much in that game either going by the reception).

I don't believe ZZZ is dying or anything but at least that game got significand changes didn't it? They removed TV from story missions, changing core mechanics and are giving a lot of gems which feels too early in it's life.

I think ZZZ is just harder to keep player retention cause all you do is fight and it's too horny/memey to give a fuck about the story. It's combat system also makes it the most vulnerable to powercreep but it's too early to feel it.
it's hoyo, they wouldn't make sweeping changes if they didn't have to. but it's also their third game, people might simply be tired of a third (or more) "hoyo" style game.

genshin for now probably still makes enough money due inertia and sunken cost alone, but from what I've seen there's a noticeable drop in numbers (still far from EOS), simply because most people don't whale in different gatchas, certainly not all the normalfags genshin brought in. some of those moved to HSR or ZZZ, so they still get money, but genshin going down (more than just the usual decline over the years, and the post-covid normalization) was inevitable.

I dont know if genshin is really dropping cause i don't hoyo doing any significant changes now or in the future.

Well, MHY is doing some test for Genshin now, isn't it? Immediately teasing upcoming characters to keep some hype after Mavuika. Testing FOMO more with releasing both new units on first phase. Then again, it could be Lantern Rite testing.
For god sake, add like three banners or something for better rerun time.
(Edit: I forgot, there is that Mavuika leak having jiggle physic on her butt in walking animation. So... whether will they having more of that like ZZZ is to be seen)

It's more or less people basing on monthly gacharevenue for mobiles, estimation numbers anyway. Genshin doesn't seem to get that much like its used to. But I agree with ZMOT, most of it probably just people are now spreading between three MHY games more. Genshin and HSR are still more suitable for normies or "anime fan since Covid" type. Despite imo, ZZZ is the most lenient - less commitment game to play of them (MHY) all. Grinding gear is easier and much less hassle of grinding leveling up materials too.

Long post. TL;DR: I'm 50/50 75/25 with ZZZ updates from now on.
ZZZ story is a lot simpler and thankfully isn't as wordy - tangent rambling like Genshin and HSR can be. I guess MHY wanting ZZZ as popular/success as Genshin and HSR in someway. Considering mobile revenue during 1.2 not doing great (Sons of Calydon patch), they were probably in "panic" mode. So Idk, whether the whole urban design and biker style aren't that much well-received for China. Despite Caesar is pretty top tier and Burnice is also quite good. Tbf, none of limited 5* ZZZ has been released are bad. All of them are solid to very good strength wise. Miyabi is just intentionally broken in many ways.

This patch works as a soft-relaunch. TV wasn't perfect, it did improve, but at the same time they remove few unique and "soulful" design of the game. The weekly rogue-like game mode Hollow Zero, it has rng of collecting these items to do "hidden" side quests. Imo, they add neat world-building and side story telling.
Hollow Zero lost items.png
Collecting all items from that Hollow Proposal keep you wondering whether the guy and the girl in audio record make it out of hollow zone and marry to each other. But playing the quest, it'll show you not only the girl is actually a police officer patrolling on street where you live. Both of them even have a daughter now.
Some have sweet ending. some ends on a more "thank you for your telling me" tone. It's just that, the rng to trigger event to collect these items can be quite annoying. TV mode is "no more" and Withered Domain won't have anymore updates. No more these kind of side quests. Even the Mewmew officer mascot won't get update again, the guy don't even have any audio voiceline when you talk to him this patch. All of these things give players incentive to interact with small hubs and npc for world building, this patch is the last of them.

Character story quest wise, it's still 50/50 MHY writing whether focusing on characters more or NPC more. But this patch, Harumasa one is pretty good imo. It hits all the tropes that would make husbandos collectors happy. He shares some similarities to Scaramouche, even more so in JP. Even with the add "quality time spending" dating thing, it feels leaning more into you-the player is special to gacha characters at the end.

Combat wise, I'd say it has the most (out of MHY games) letting you optimize rotation more. Whether you do full chain attack for x2 or x3 multiplier for decibels (character ult meter), or you cut short since your dps character can finish off remaining of boss health bar. What I'm not really into the new Decibels change yet.
Before everyone sharing one Decibels meter, only main DPS character will do the ult. Now everyone has their own Decibels meter, so MHY give enemies more HP to compensate. So ATK dps can feel bad when using their ult isn't doing as much total % damage to healthbar as they used to be. Anomaly bar build up, stun duration & build up are still the same.
Here is the thing, the timer count down for the ranking in endgame stops during ult cinematic cutscene but stun bar still goes down. Basically for typical, Attacker - Stun team, they have to slot in Support ult in that stun duration (does damage and gives Energy regen for team) too. It's getting harder to get more value for Attacker-stun team. Meanwhile Anomaly-disorder team doesn't change much, it doesn't help game still having bunch of buffs for anomaly dps.
Then also considering, they starts adding more multiple elite enemies for later floors. You have pay more attention in doing damage to both at the same time.

It just happens Miyabi herself is broken not only in numbers, but also in her general mechanic gameplay. She does lots of damage, big damage move has "entire room" AOE size and also very easy to play - innate big iframes for big damage move. She's so far up to any other dps even without her signature. Difference between her sig and her best F2P is 30-40%. Not only that, majority of enemies in this game are Ethereals, most of them are weak to ice. Miyabi is ice with her unique Frostburn mechanic.
I'm just being foolish stubborn on not rolling her.

Maybe Skirk will have a similar Frostburn mechanic to Miyabi, but can also be similar to Arle's pyro dot in her E.skill.

MHY is always doing beta testing for the next version when the current version releases, it's how we got all the up-to-date leaks. You can apply to be in the beta program, but as they need gov id, fuck that lol.

My bad. Let me be clearer. I mean as in MHY this time teasing all possible characters to be released til end of 5.x patch officially to everyone. Because amount of Natlan characters are introduced (nation trailer) and participate in archon quests are lower(?) than Fontaine. Fontaine has eight 5* appearing in archon quest series. Natlan and Sumeru have six.

Sumeru 3.5 had Dehya and 3.6 had Baizhu, 3.7 and 3.8 were reruns. Fontaine straight up had new 5* characters til 4.8.

Oh yeah, that's totally new. I suspect one of these teased characters is going straight to the standard banner, as they've mentioned that they'll be adding more characters to it. For maximum salt it should be the Natlan dude.

On the fucking last day of his banner, with my last fucking ticket, finally this asshole decided to show up...

Merry Crismbus everyone! I hope your pulls go well!

80 pulls just to lose the 50/50 to Yanqing

Should I keep throwing away jades on the banner or save for The Herta?
Please disregard if the following makes no sense but in short, that depends on what you need and why you pull.

Like I am trying to do double duty on the current banner because:
  • Collection plus I like TingGue. I like the idea of Firefly.

  • I am in dire need of fire-type characters as I otherwise only have four and they all suck ass. I just got Gallagher though but I need variety.

  • Damage dealing and break is a plus.
If you feel you have more need for Herta than the F&FF duo, save your pulls and wait for a rerun.

Or grind like me. Or IDK, whale.

I'm gonna get Herta regardless because I need more Erudition units and ice-type folks too.

I quite literally only got Geppy and Water boy that are in fighting shape and I've only put any stock in the former.

Genuine question; Aside from Jing Yuan, what other character has summons? I did the mistake of playing through the shitty Continuance Mission, put trial mode Fagday on my team out of curiosity and since I don't use summons, bro felt kinda handicapped.

Not sure what your character situation is like, but I generally go for utility over damage if you have good DPS

I wanted Fugue to have 2 teams that let me clear shit without thinking too much, it's the main reason why I pulled for E1 Firefly on her first banner

I don't even know what counts as "good DPS"
