Vicky is not a particularly good parasite, as evidenced by the fact that she is regularly getting turned away and the local docs probably know her type very well. She has a medical history of opioid abuse and went to rehab, which doesn’t like to talk about except her vague tweet about how she’ll “never get good pain relief again” (dilaudid.) I’m sure she tries hard to make her symptoms look real, but is unable to even realize the excuses medical professionals are giving her are actually to get her to go away. It would be clear if she actually did have a problem rather quickly, and in the off chance that something happened to her, her staggering history of abusing the system would make it impossible to litigate.

That's one of the things that makes her so amusing, she is so terrible at being a munchie but only skates by on her immense wealth and privilege. I think the opiate addiction is only half of the story. The other half is wanting people to touch her butt. The poo/butt fetish aspect has been getting (UNFORTUNATELY) clearer with this arc too.

Seriously. It's hard to overstate how little is expected of conventionally attractive girls born into rich families. As other people have said, it's a childish sort of narcissism where she's unable to see other people as anything other than an extension of herself instead of autonomous people with their own desires and needs. Most children grow out of it as they start to become more independent themselves, but cluster b messes like Victoria never do.

For most of us it would be the worst nightmare to become a vegetable because we can understand how hard it would be to people around us, hence why it's a fate worse than death. Not only having your independence taken from you, but also affecting the independence for those around you. But for Victoria other people are mere NPCs who are only around her to fulfill Victoria's needs and desires.

Combining both these observations: I wonder if Victoria has an advance directive filled out. That'd be a litmus test as to how sincere she is.

On the one hand, disability activists are the first to decry MAiD as euthanasia or eugenics, so the subject would be on-brand for Victoria. Her parents are evil, she has to designate someone else as her healthcare PoA, multi-day saga of how she had to rewrite the form to fully reflect her wishes, postscript of how she couldn't find a notary who did house calls so she had to wheel down to her bank and someone told her she was the coolest.

On the other hand, she might be talking a good game about advance directives but not bother with one; she still "knows" she can stop being sick when it gets boring--eventually this will not be true, but she's still young--and like most callow youth, she can't comprehend a world without her in it. She's the protagonist, duh! When she dies, the world ends.

Now I’m curious because I know nothing about law, medicine, and medicinal law. How often do medics get punished in these situations? It would make sense that they’re forced to treat every single case seriously exactly for this reason. But then again, aren’t hospitals allowed to put people on a “watchlist” of sorts if they’re obvious addicts? What if one day they come in and they really are in excruciating pain?

This also presumes that she has associates or loved ones who would actually sue or complain if something happened to her. And she's already shown she is unwilling to make even the simplest effort to get accommodations at school, can't imagine her trying to litigate anything herself. The hospital also is probably documenting every single thing to cover their ass anyway, so its possible there's a note somewhere in her chart that notes drug seeking behavior or frequent unnecessary ER visits.

This hypothetical situation reminds me of Jacquie's munching to death - while she was in the hospital, her usual whining about pain was overlooked, ended up being an obstruction in her bowel, and she died. But nobody sued or investigated because once she was dead, all the seemingly sane people in her orbit were probably relieved to move the fuck on. And all the insane people in her orbit were happy to take her place. If Vicki did end up with a serious problem that got overlooked due to malingering behaviors, I don't think the hospital has to worry at all about random twitter fags or distant rich relatives suing them for malpractice or negligence.

She used to make her parents drive her out of state (iirc) to some pain management clinic and then yell at her mom who “threw away her pills” aka she went through a month’s supply in four days and blamed mom.

I could be wrong, of course (she sure has had long absences from social media recently and seems to fail at every basic life skill, like a true dope fiend), but the way she described that one hit she got at the hospital jibes with how the ex-junkies I’ve met would react to a surprise buzz. If she was using every day that would’ve been a non-event.

My personal opinion is that she isn't really aware of it in the sense of her consciously knowing that she's not as sick as she claims to be. I think it's more of a reaction to her feeling crappy, but not getting the reaction/attention she believes she should.

When you’re a kid, having upset stomach means you get to stay home from school and watch daytime television. When you’re an adult, you’re expected to take some Pepto Bismol and get back to work. Most of us adjust to that without even thinking about it, but I think some people like Victoria never really do — to them, being expected to deal with things like an adult feels like they’re being cruelly and unfairly ignored. So to compensate, they start subconsciously exaggerating their problems in an attempt to trigger the reaction they think they deserve for their problems.

Think of the kind of person who probably just has a tension headache but instead of taking some Advil and dealing with it, they have to tell everyone within earshot about what a horrible migraine they have right now. They aren’t necessarily aware that what they have isn’t a migraine, they just know that:

a. they feel really bad​

b. a “migraine” = headache that is universally recognized as being bad, therefore​

c. nobody can dismiss how bad they’re feeling right now​

In Vicky's case, this seems to be compounded by a weird regard for being disabled as some kind of quasi-holy state.
