In regards to the Eevee popularity, I didn't notice it as a kid. I actually thought Meowth would've been more of a big deal because of the anime and the Pokémon Master Trainer board game where it was one of the starter options. Even Clefairy was an option.

There were only so many Pokemon at the time, so they had to make do (NOTE: I think Meowth and Poliwhirl are fucking awesome though).

Clefairy was famously the intended shill-mon before everyone noticed Pikachu was getting a ton of the attention and shifted that to be the series shill-mon, though I truly think it a clever meta joke that Clefairy is Leaf Green/Blue's "ace" pokemon in the vein Pikachu is to Ash Red's - they even have a baby form and stone evolution a la Pikachu and let's face it, Clefairy's line is appropriately cutesy enough for a girl trainer if you're going by obvious stereotypes.

Speaking of Leaf/Green/Blue, I AM surprised they haven't figured out a canon role for her in the mainline games' lore yet. People really like her even if they'll have to get used to her nutso competionist personality in Let's Go instead of the longtime femme fatale parody in Special.

Poliwhirl's popularity is largely due to Satoshi Tajiri liking it and it being subsequently pushed in marketing; it faded because it was never as popular with the fans as it was with its creators. Granted each Gen has had Pokemon like that - Marill was famously Gen II's attempt to replace Pikachu - but Poliwhirl is remarkable given how hard it was pushed compared to how quickly it was forgotten.

Leaf's resurgence in popularity is imo pretty similar. Green was a popular manga character but most of the old Pokemon fans nowadays began with Gen III/IV, not with the original 90s Pokemon craze (afaik most of those people checked out for YGO or something more 'mature' when Gen III rolled around), so for most, unless if you grew up reading old issues of Adventures, Leaf didn't exist as a character since she wouldn't even show up in FR/LG if you picked Red and she played no part in the anime. Whatever canon role she has as distinct from Green is more or less entirely the creation of Gen 8 with Let's Go and Masters in an attempt to appeal to people who hadn't cared about Pokemon in two decades.
 
I was watching some drones footage of the place where I live and realized it could be its own pokémon region. It is more similar to a Hoenn region with both mountains and ocean so close to each other lol

I use Poliwhirl seriously.

Last time I played Pokemon (which was US/UM), this was the Poliwhirl I had:
Poliwhirl (M) @ Eviolite
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 12 HP / 248 Atk / 56 Def / 176 SpD / 16 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Brick Break
- Earthquake

I'm kinda iffy on Poliwrath because his fighting type is more of a hindrance. Defensively it has more weaknesses that don't even counter the ones he already has, and offensively unless you invested in the bulk to use a SubPunch set (Substitute + Focus Punch), you're only other option was Brick Break, Submission, or Mind Reader + Dynamic Punch. It's not until Sw/Sh where he actually gets some GOOD shit like Drain Punch

Eevee was one of the "gimmick" mons of Gen I. I don't think it got heavily shilled until after Gen IV with Leafeon and Glaceon, even though Gen II added two more types. Umbreon was cool, I took him to the Elite Four in my Gold/Crystal runs as my designated Dark-type.
 
You know what I love? Spending hours gambling because no trainer wants to fight me in Emerald. I already beat the Elite 4 twice and don't want to do it again. Revelation romhack adds a bunch of prize Pokemon to Mauville Game Corner and I kind of want one of each as novelty. Problem is that gambling in Emerald is a pain in the ass: Slots are as much of a crapshoot as they are in FRLG/RBY. Then there is Roulette, which actually has the best odds(1/12 at the start and getting progressively easier to win with 1/6 at the last round), but it only rewards you with 12x your wager. Problem? You're only allowed to bet 3 coins per spin, with maximum of 33 coins after wager per jackpot if you bet on an individual Roulette slot. I currently have about 3000 coins to go to get the last Pokemon, Porygon. Do you know how long this is going to take?
I could go for Elite Four for the third time, but I am actually running low on healing items. Every yen I got from winnings went towards buying casino coins directly.

I tried running Poliwrath since I like it in Gen 7. It's not good but when it works, it's so satisfying. I ran Belly Drum and a Z crystal on it.
Is Poliwhirl actually good? I am always looking for another decent Eviolite user.
 

Huh, as I was watching this video I realized that in my language we call it the first pokemon initials but most people use starters in english. I guess even here I used starters without realizing but the first word that comes to my mind is initials in my first language.

Another term that took long time to make the same was the Pokedex, initially in the dubbed anime and TCG it was written as Poké-Agenda, something like Poke-Diary.

Another funny term is Legendary. In portuguese there are two words for it: Lendário that originates from lenda (legend) and Legendario that is closer to the english word but is quite weird to speak since lendário exists and legenda can also means subtitles.

Other terms I don't even know if there is a translation like Shiny. Doesn't help that pokémon was never actually translated into portuguese officially (I played VW2 fan translated into portuguese but they left the attack names in english lol)

Translation is so funny, for example the Rogue character in X-Men, we just don't have a word equivalent to it so they translated into Vampira (vampire + a), but at the same time they left the same as english as Wolverine, since the actual translation of the animal would sound so silly

It's not a team wrecker by any means, but with Eviolite it can take a hit or two and dish some before dying. Just make sure to keep it away from any pokemon that inflict burn statuses.

technically you COULD run a Belly Drum set on this thing as well if you're crazy enough. Maybe something like this:
Poliwhirl @ Eviolite
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 80 HP / 16 Atk / 176 Def / 220 SpD / 16 Spe
Careful Nature
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Belly Drum
- Earthquake

Both defenses at 210 x 1.5 with the Eviolite = 315 Def&SpD so you COULD tank things a bit better, but then you're speed is at an average level so you would need to set this up against a slow opponent and hope it's not using Trick Room against you. Ice Punch and Earthquake would take care of Grass and Electric weakness respectively.

You ain't getting anything out of that special attack unless you were playing Gen1 and made it learn amnesia, but then again.... no eviolite.

Poliwrath is a different beast thanks to it's Fighting type, but does this thing do anything that Politoed can't? That's what I'm really wondering.

Well look at it this way

Do you want a special attacker that can set up rain for more powerful water attacks?

or do you want a physical attacker that can't do as much damage as his evolved brothers but it's a fun gimmic to use?
