Anorexia causes autophagy to kick in. This is when your body eats away its own muscles, either because your protein intake is too low or you don't have any more fat for your body to burn (when you are in a calorie deficit). With anorexics, both things happen at the same time. Her eye muscles are visibly deteriorated, evidenced by her decline of motor skills. Obviously her brain has also shunken down, which makes it all worse.
