Ah, so she got infected by her own fecal bacteria. If it had been a UTI we could put it down to wiping back to front but as she got the shits, or claimed to, I have to wonder if her hand washing prior to preparing food was up to scratch. OR if she bothered at all.

The mortality rate for o157:H7, a particularly bad E coli, is < 1% so I highly doubt she was nearly taken out by it in a city that is probably brimming with top notch hospitals.

Public service announcement: E coli is commensal, you shit out loads of it every time you defecate. Its like the least special infectious microbe, but even the friendly strains can wreck havoc when they get to places they aren't supposed to be. Cf every munchie with a port.

E. coli infections do happen but they can almost always be fought off without any antibiotics. She claims she had some kidney issues, but if it's that bad it's IV antibiotics and dialysis time. I don't think she'd have missed out on an opportunity to tell her followers about dialysis. What actually happened in the hospital? Nothing about her claimed diagnosis makes sense with what actually happened there.

Charitable interpretation: it was an enterohemorrhagic e. coli infection. Undercooked food, raw milk etc can be a source. It’s a pretty nasty infection, especially for kids, and kidney failure is common (because of dehydration).

But since this is Vicky, and the story doesn’t make sense, I doubt she had EHEC. If her kidneys were wonky it was probably just slightly deranged labs due to dehydration and she ran with it as usual.

Spinal stenosis is one of those things, like herniated disks, that’s only relevant with clinical findings. Lots of people have it and have no symptoms. She’ll make sure to exhibit the symptoms though, ‘cause who doesn’t want the ass pats associated with spinal surgery? Also, spinal stenosis surgery has atrocious long term efficacy - it seems almost everyone with actual symptoms get them back within a couple of years because the stenosis migrates.

I am unreasonably annoyed by her saying she "had E. coli." Everyone "has" E. coli! You had food poisoning, dear. Maybe that doesn't sound as dramatic?

I am trying to figure out how she pulled off a six-day stay in hospital for anything like what she describes. (For non-Americans: in the US you can turn up at a hospital with half your skull missing, gangrenous limbs, and a rabies infection, and they'll still try to kick you out the next morning to free up a bed)

Maybe someone was foolish enough to ask PT to assess her. It could have bought her a couple of days as she miscalculated her act and they threatened her with rehab--and that could be part of why she finally has home health.

Victoria's been out of the state for a while, hasn't she? The hospitals have her records and all the subtext they contain, but maybe they have to get munched at in person once for her name to start ringing bells when she's on the ED board again. Just a guess, though.

She said she got referred to "home care" but they couldn't accommodate her schedule, so she was "stuck another night." This is second-hand from a munchie, but it sounds like discharge with home health, contingent on home health being able to see her in time.

That's not the same as being turned down, that's just like if you took a prescription to a pharmacy and they were out of that med; she has to find a different provider but she's still approved.

Probably; more likely to be around $20-50. I know vancomycin and linezolid can be in the low 3 figures. Protip: it's a lot cheaper to just fill your oxycodone prescription and ditch your antibiotic prescription. Then you can come back to the hospital later and you might even get more oxycodone!

If she is on a NY medicaid managed care plan or straight medicaid, covered generics are $0 - it even covers some branded drugs for which there is no generic yet, although you might have to fail several generics / classes of meds before approval. Straight medicaid here isn't great in terms of specialty care (unless you have a managed care plan, but that's not the case for those below the poverty line - gotta see specialists through NY health + hospitals and pay out of pocket) but it is actually pretty decent for basics - it costs zero dollars to get covered medications, go to the ER for a broken bone (including diagnostic imaging), visit the pcp for a wellness exam.

Also, NYU automatically enrolls students in their health plans (which can be used as co-insurance with a student's outside insurance), unless the student opts out, but it does require a visit to the student health center to obtain referrals for outside care. Interestingly, it ONLY covers services received after an approved referral from their health center docs, the referral is based on the specific condition being addressed and is time-limited, and there are copays for services and rx (although I don't know whether it covers off-site emergency care and rx).

And if private / school insurance doesn't cover ER bullshit and you are hospitalized in NYC without adequate coverage and are living below the poverty line (on paper at least), you can retroactively enroll in medicaid to cover the emergency and that coverage will continue until you have to recertify enrollment or have a life change event or whatever. But who even knows what the fuck her deal is, she hasn't seen any specialists here for her ongoing "issues" (although that's par for the course for the chronic illness larp), never mentions visiting the NYU health center or any primary care doc for referrals / post ER follow ups, and seems to think the ER is a general purpose medical hotel where Dr. House MD will swoop in and diagnose her mysterious shitting and lifelong pathological laziness.
 
Thanks for clarifying y’all I was extremely confused how some one can have an e.coli infection….in their digestive system. Usually with munchies we see that in lines etc bc they’ve been rubbing poo on them. It’s so weird bc she’s claimed this E. coli thing before to explain GI issues and it still doesn’t make sense. Also, I love that she’s just been shitting herself to make a point but doesn’t have any explanation now. She’ll go to a lot of effort to avoiding doing school I guess. Bet she’s been abusing laxatives, that could maybe also fuck up her bloodwork enough to get an admit.

A munchie in the general munchie thread had spinal stenosis recently. If I remember correctly it was real and they were super miserable lmao I love when they actually get sick and have to experience the reality of their larping. I can dig it up if people want.
 
Victoria is leaving her house today. Alert the press! Yes, her professors will truly care about this...oh, wait, yes, I expect she'll be using "I needed to go out" as a reason not to do any work. Strangely, many college kids (even disabled ones, in wheelchairs, with poop problems) manage to both go out and study in the same day. Hard to believe but it's true!

Solu-Cortef injections are for two situations:

1. You are in adrenal crisis and trying to not die. Oftentimes someone else needs to do the shot for you, because you may be unconscious. This is followed by an immediate trip to the ER to get stabilized.

2. You are vomiting too much to keep pills or anything else down for over a day. People who actually have Addison’s will straight up die without taking cortisone multiple times a day, every day for the rest of their lives. It’s like being type 1 diabetic and not taking your insulin. Your body needs it to be alive and does not naturally produce it.

Victoria does not appear to be in either of these situations.
