Donating to the Kiwi Farms​

We need 600 users donating $20 a month to make the site sustainable. This is less than 5% of users who sign in every day. With 600 users donating $20 a month, we get the following:
  • The ability to reinvest into hardware and custom software.
  • Legal financing to deal with our outrageous liability.
  • Security for sudden expenses like hard drive failures.
  • Flexibility in dealing with threats, i.e. DDoS protection.
For $20 a month, you get:
  • Access to the supporter forum.
  • Gilded border and badge (optional).
  • Special rating stickers.
  • Sponsor-a-post to the front page with a banner or automatic preview.
  • The Kiwi Farms for years to come.
The forum is a cultural pillar of the Internet and it punches far, far above its weight all the time. We do a lot with a little, but I still need that little to keep going.

How to Donate​

There are two ways to donate:

1. Cryptocurrency. Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Monero payments are now instant and automatic. See this post for more information.

2. Check in mail. You can send anonymous USPS money orders or arrange monthly automatic payments from your bank. See this post for more information.

That's it. I cannot accept gift cards, cash in mail, credit cards, Venmo, whatever. If you somehow don't know, I am globally banned from processing payments by all financial institutions due to my association with this website. I can cash checks, that is it.

Rewards​

One-Time Donations​

If you donate any amount you are permanently upgraded to "True & Honest". This includes:
  • The green donor banner.
  • Access to the supporter forum.
  • Access to certain ratings (Semper Fidelis, Deviant, Indian Content).
  • Permanently.

Recurring Donations​

I encourage anyone who uses the site regularly to donate $20/mo. If 600 users donate $20/mo, it would permanently stabilize our finances and permit me to actually invest into the future of the site instead of just putting out fires. 600 users represent less than 5% of users who log in every single day.

In exchange, you get:
  • Permanent True & Honest.
  • Black and Gold banner (optional, toggleable).
  • Gold avatar trim (optional, toggleable).
  • Access to certain ratings (Jewish Content).
  • Access to the Sponsor-a-Post system.

Sponsoring a Post​

This system is under development and the specifics may change. In general, you will be able to periodically feature specific posts on the website, and any user who can see that post will see your sponsorship of it on certain pages of the forum.

As of January 30th, 2026, you can feature one post for up to seven days every three days. You may choose to feature a preview of that post or a custom banner you upload yourself. The banner has specific size limitations. The promotions appear on the front page of the site under the moderator featured posts.

Thread Highlights​

A thread which has any highlights, postmarks, or global features will have a button on the top-right to view a threaded, paginated mode showing only those posts.

I have been hesitant to add such a feature because it would create a "reddit upvote dilation" problem where popular posts get seen more, reacted to more, and promoted more, even if as-good-or-better posts exist next to it. Since this feature only exists for a small subset of users, it will not cause as much of an issue.

Any post which has any other post quoting it or embedding it will have a link in the action bar to View replies.

F.A.Q.​

Q. My bank says my check was cashed. Where is my gold?
There is a delay between the check being deposited by our financial institution and the check "clearing", making it available to me by API. This is several business days.

Q. Can I send more than $20? Can I send $40 every two months? Can I send $240 a year? Can I send less? What happens if I send an odd amount like $31?​

Yes. Amounts are applied pro rata, which is to say: You will get your money's worth, always.

The formula for calculating time goes as follows:
  • Take either the existing expiration time of your upgrade OR the current time at the point the payment is processed.
  • Add +n months, where n is the quotient of $AMOUNT divided by $20).
  • Add +x hours, where x is the remaining amount over $20, then multiplied by the total number of hours in the month. Specifically, the hours in the month arrived at after Step #2.
Example:
If you donate $31 and it is processed by me on January 1st, your upgrade will expire on February the 16th at 8pm (1 month + 55% of the amount of hours in February).

I prefer the billpay only because it is automatic but I use both the same. I routinely spend both cryptocurrency and cash on Kiwi Farms hardware, software, and leases. Almost all tech companies accept crypto these days.

Support by Check in Mail ("Billpay")​

You can now pay by check in the mail. If 600 people set this up, it will sustain the site and its development perpetually.


Please, read and follow these instructions.
You should not put your username or user id on the check. You should not send me your bank details.


How To​

The process is easy but slow. It will take up to 21 days for the check to be cashed and for your upgrade to be applied. However, once the process has started, you will not have to think about it again. Just be sure to keep your account above $20.

Your forum account is identified by a secret 9-digit number found only on this page. Don't share it.

Billpay is a system where your bank prints physical checks and sends them on a schedule to a physical location by mail. The process of setting this up depends on the bank. You can google "My Bank Billpay".

For instance, with Old Glory Bank it looks like this. This varies by institution but this is a general process guide.

1. Add a payee. If it asks if this is a company or personal transfer, select company.

2. Enter your details carefully. Pay special attention to anything related to a "billpay id" or "account number". The terminology changes by vendor, but basically this is the identifier for the payee's system that identifies you.

3. Fill in mailing details. My system asks me for my name to put on the check. You may be able to replace this with an LLC or omit this entirely, depending on your bank's rules.

4. Set up a recurring payment with this payee. For continuous supporter status, arrange $20 per month at any day of your pleasing. There is no minimum or maximum. You will get premium upgrade time distributed pro rata: if you send a dollar you will get 1/20th of a month, if you send a hundred you will get 5 months.

That's it. Your bank will send a check to mountain momma every month. Our mail guy will stop by the post office, collect the mail, sort out the checks, and send them for processing.


Before you submit, ensure that your recipient is "Lolcow LLC", not "Kiwi Farms" not "Joshua Moon" not "KF" and not your billpay ID. The legal recipient of this payment is Lolcow LLC, putting anything else will delay your payment.


Alternative: Anonymous Money Orders and Personal Checks​

If you prefer to donate with paper money but do not want to use automated bank payments, you have an alternative.

You still go to the billpay page and pull your billpay id. Fill out a USPS Money Order with this information:

Send in mail to the address. It will be processed the same as the automatic payments.

Please do not send Western Union, Walmart, or other types of money orders / cashier's checks. USPS money orders are as good as cash. WU and Walmart must be negotiated in-store.

Any check works. The only requirement is that it is a USD account. If you are sending a check from out of the country, please ensure that it is from a USD account.

Q. How long does it take?​

I estimate between 2 to 3 weeks after your institution cuts the check and sends it. For my breakdown, see here. I know, it sucks, I was hoping for closer to a week. In the future, we may have a way to improve the speed at which checks are deposited: our bank, Old Glory Bank, is interested in issuing a check deposit machine to us directly which will completely remove about 6-9 business days of processing time. The good news is that once you send your first check and it comes through you never have to think about it again.

Q. When is money withdrawn from my account?​

This is an institution-specific question. Many banks withdraw and endorse the payments as soon as they are created. Some do not. If you do not see a withdrawal for the amount you send, you should ensure that your balance stays positive so that it will not bounce or overdraw.

Q. What Security Measures are in place?​

The gist is: No one party ever holds both the check and the user account associated it. This is why you specify your bill pay id, not your account name.

Here is a rundown of the safety precautions being taken.
  • There are federal and state laws in regards to the handling of financial information.
  • The billpay id that is created for your account is known only to the Kiwi Farms, not the check deposit clerk.
  • Payment information is stored by the bank, not any online device, individual, or business location that I manage.
  • Payments are applied to user accounts by a receipt generated by the banking service.
  • No information about the depositor or the financial institution are stored on the server.
  • USPS money orders and bank checks are accepted for this.
In short, who is donating to which account will be unknown to every individual. The mail clerk, the teller at the bank, and myself will never see the depositor and the user account at the same time. The clerk receives the checks with numbers on it. The bank receives the same. I receive a receipt of which payees received what payments. The Kiwi Farms receives instructions to update those accounts. Even in the event of a total breach at any of those locations, cross-contamination is not possible.

Q. Can I send money as a donation or gift?​

Yes. Please indicate in the memo if you are sending a gift. Just some statement like "Gift" or "Donation" with no account number. If you must specify an account number or cannot specify a memo, enter something like `000000000` or `999999999`, something obviously not real.

Q. Can I send cash?​

You can, but the mail guy keeps it and you don't get anything for it.


Refund Policy​

No refunds, including if you are banned. Sorry, but I'm not writing checks to people who bought it and then sponsored a gross post or something.

SEPA / SWIFT / BIC / IBAN​

If you have an account with a SEPA bank, you can send money to the Kiwi Farms (as of March, 2026).

If your bank's currency is in Euros, chances are that your bank also supports instant transfers. In such cases, you will get what you pay for almost immediately.
If your bank's currency is not in Euros (GBP, PLN), or if your bank does not support instant transfers, you may have to wait 2 business days.

Payments are applied pro rata. If you send the full amount, you get 1 month. If you send twice the amount, you get 2 months. As long as you correctly specify either a valid payment token or a valid payment id, you will get what you pay for, regardless of how much you've paid.

If you have any issues, confusion, etc please email me at josh@kiwifarms.net. If you are awaiting your rewards, please wait at least 2 days before giving up. Please include information to help me identify your account (name, your iban, memo line, reference id, etc, any combination of that).


This system should supposedly work with transfer systems (Revolut/Wise) and any international bank which supports SWIFT/BIC. However, I have not thoroughly tested this, because I do not know how the memo field conveys.
