Decided to finally try the salt in coffee meme.
it works
what the fuck
I can taste the salt, but it's not half bad
How do you make your salty coffee? I've been thinking about it but I drink pourover and espresso and I can't imagine how salt would make either of those better.

it alleviates the bitterness
granted, i may have put a bit too much: you're supposed to do a pinch and i did like three
had to toss it out but i liked the initial taste before all the salt settled

I've been having salt in my coffee for ages -- it makes for a much smoother flavour IMO. Most mornings I'll have a double shot espresso with a pinch of salt and a dash of heavy cream. I swear it's better than it sounds.

Yeah if you add too much it starts to negate the coffee taste entirely and you're just drinking salt water. You only need a tiny bit.

That's just the start of the autism. I've gone majorly down the rabbit hole of min maxing my coffee to a specific taste profile. Said taste profile is all about bringing out the acidity and letting the regional varieties and processing shine through. To that end i've gotten 98mm burrs for my grinder to achieve a very unimodal grind distribution. It allows me to grind even finer to increase extraction without clogging my filter. For water I've just set up a water system at home where I use DI water and then use a small pipet to remineralize the water I use to be a specific comprising of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and magnesium sulfate. For actually brewing the coffee I just use a glass v60. I do like the aeropress but I am not fucking with plastics and boiling water, it still leaches.

I take coffee in four different methods, depending on mood, available time at home, whether I have it in the house, etc.

Usually I'll manually grind with an Edwardian grinder I have, real coarse and hardy coffee as a result. It already had seen good use by the time I bought it, but like a good piece or furniture, it's developed an aroma and season of its own.

Second is standard coffee machine/capsule coffee. Decent, quick, good for one cup whenever I want it.

Third is instant, usually brought out for normie family members or old folks who have never tasted a good coffee in their life. Freeze-dried shit is the norm for them, and I'll serve it up if they want it.

Fourth, and finally, I'll break out the Moka pot a few times per year. Managed to score a good one in Italy a few years back. Small brand, albeit very high quality. Illey hardpack espresso, couple minutes and some finessing later, and you've got some decent brew.

I've used an Aeropress before, but never personally invested in any other shit. It's just not been a priority so far, though I'll probably experiment further when I get more work done on my house.

I am thoroughly fucking addicted to coffee. It helped me quit smoking easier.

You talk like a fag and your shits all fucked up.

While I do have a large collection of different flavors of coffee grounds for hot drip coffee, I've almost completely switched over to cold brew and other iced coffees. I'm not a fan of bitter-- I'm one of those people who loads their coffee up with sweet creamers and, if I'm getting it from Starbucks or McDonald's or whatever, whipped cream and caramel syrup. But I like the flavor of coffee itself, without the bitterness. Cold brew has more of that coffee flavor and less of the bitter notes.

I'll still drink hot coffee, but it's much rarer now. I've made my own frappes at home, too. Good shit.

Milk and 2 teaspoons of sugar and I’m good. I don’t know what any of you are on about.

French press Master race for sure. Least amount of effort for greatest taste. I used to mess around with espresso and pour-overs and still do from time to time, but French press is my go too. Do any of the Kiwis here have any coffee roaster recommendations? Don't Power level obviously if its local but any ones you really recommend?

I have successfully quit drinking coffee for one month, cope and seethe bean slaves, I am free.
Congratulations! Having coffee once in awhile is good.

I’ve had some oolong tea this morning along with some ice coffee for lunch.

So what's everyone's favorite food, dessert or snack to have with coffee? Not what you usually have on a daily basis, but what goes the absolute best with it.

For me personally, it's sweet chili flavored potato chips(!). The chili burn enhances the heat of the coffee while the salty/sweet/fatty flavor mix is balanced perfectly by its bitterness. It's like there's some kind of flavor synthesis going on there too, it doesn't only taste like the one plus the other but also of something new and unique, a bit like spiced bacon.
