It´s well water, could just be natural iron water but giving the decor remains the same since the 80s, there are tiles missing after they moved some furniture in the master bathroom, I´d guess lack of maintenance and corroding pipes. Man, after I changed to PEX, I never looked back.

It's not going to be from pipe corrosion. The house was built in '81. It's going to be all copper tubing on the pressure side and PVC on the waste side. Anything red is coming from the water itself.

Edit: I just looked something up and apparently sometimes GRC is used for the drop pipe in the well and has a 15-20 year life span. It could be that the pipe going down the well has never been replaced and is corroding out.

My guess is still that it's directly related to the water. As far as how recently it started, it probably started the day the pump was first turned on and might be common enough in that area as to go essentially unnoticed by the locals.
