the difference is that most writers to whom that happens understand (and at least privately acknowledge) how much luck is involved.

the exception may be wunderkinden who go viral somehow and get a publishing deal before they've had life experience, but generally anyone who's been in the trenches for any length of time understands that while work ethic, talent, novelty and/or the correct identity checkboxes can increase your odds, it's ultimately about who happens to be in the right place at the right time (or in the world of publishing, specifically, who went to the right college with the right people at the right time)

Not that it really matters but I think Patrick leans on the side of Israel anyway, since he has an apparently pathological need to support the actual policy of the state or current democratic candidate for president (whichever is gayer); also pro Israel. But more importantly he is, in his own very special way, trying to be tactful to anyone with a name in (what he thinks of as) his industry, which would rule out immediately going nuclear on politics.

Did he not used to have his phone number on his site? I actually can't find it on an archive site, so maybe not, but I'm sure I remember another poster saying so. I mean, how would anyone get it if he hadn't published it? One of his friends or a convention accidentally leaked it?

Ah....peak post work cosy hour. Finished my kettlebell session, had a nice cold shower, big bowl of my weirdass gumbo/etoufee/cassoulet hybrid (don't ask, I have no fucking idea what this qualifies as but its delicious) in my belly and some reasonable budget bourbon in my glass.....and best of all I am back with my beloved pig man and following his antics once again
