I have to get tested on it every few months. It double or triples chances of survival compared to not doing CPR and is useful to keep blood flowing until EMTs or a code team arrives. Off the top of my head in a nonhealthcare setting the biggest issue is a lack of training with doing the correct depth and pace while performing it too late to keep the brain oxygenated.
