Wasn't it stated early into the IDW run that SEGA owns all the comic's contents this time around, so if IDW goes under they could just take the same creative team to a different publisher and carry on as usual?
I'm not so sure about moving the creative team, but I definitely recall Sega actually making sure they owned everything under IDW Sonic. I mean, they would be fools not to after dealing with Penders

Surprised Flynn didn't know though after begging to get in. You would think a guy who tries to pander so hard to the fandoms would be more aware of what's going to get some very negative attention from them.
Thats potto to the core a Cringy Avaricious sonic cuck that tries to sneak and weasel his way into making a franchise worser than it already is lol. That did nothing but built a boot licking community (bumblecast forum) thats idolize him every waking second  and will get extremely defensive if you even criticize the guy or his work. All this will lead to onlookers looking into to him and his fanatics.

Look at him begging to get on to the upcoming megaman comic just like how he begged his way into being a writer for archie. Just pathetic

So has anyone here been to the Sonic Symphony? I've been contemplating going because I like listening to Sonic music as much as the next person, but the prospect of being in a room for hours with a bunch of IRL Sonic fans who probably don't wash sounds like utter torture to me.
I tried to convince my lady to do that last year. I was like this will be the funniest shit ever. like a small tour through hell. she wanted to take me to the Zelda one when it came around. I told her that was sweet but I'd rather die before sitting in a room with obsessive Zelda fans, at least sonic fans of that caliber would make me laugh, the Zelda guys would just irritate me.

Considering the dire straits IDW is in, 'hire better writers' is likely the least of their concerns right now when the current slop is selling adequately for now. Evan Stanley certainly hasn't lived up at all the reputation that deviantards and tumblrites shilled her for, and she's meant to be the new lead writer after replacing Flynn since the middle of the IDW series' run.

If anything, I'm even more disinclined to read her fancomic after seeing her professional output for Sonic.

Flynn's a pretty obvious hack whose main claim to fame was just being better than Penders, a very tough act to follow I know, but it's equally retarded for his critics to be frothing over the mouth over the fact that Flynn achieved the comics equivalent of walking into a business and asking to apply for a job - something that was still reasonably possible around the early new millennium. 2006 was 18 years ago now, that scenario is almost-impossible in today's comics industry, you'd never see this much seething over the pretty clear nepotism amongst picks for cover artists or the artists working on the comic.

It doesn't help that the standards for "decently written comic books" and "formulaic comics" with respect to Sonic comic stories are both Ian Flynn. If the Metal Virus and Impostor Syndrome arcs are any indication, when he doesn't have others' works to build off of or is being given direction by others (i.e Frontiers), it's pretty clear that he's out of any new stories to tell for Sonic and his time is up. Same goes for Stanley.

My understanding was people liked Ian. Its fucking Penders we hate. It is a shame they will never do an omnibus because of him. A bigass omnibus of Sonic stories would be fun to see.

Shame Ian has gone full on tard.

he always, ALWAYS blamed Sega for something. From how Shadow was written, to the fact that the Freedom Fighters couldn't return despite a court record proving that Sega owned the FF, and thus, it was okay to use them, Flynn just won't,
This entire post reads like sallyfag cope. I genuinely have no idea what sort of mental gymnastics you have to do to come to the conclusion that "Sally can be in any day now, it's just that damn Ian Flynn fighting tooth and nail to keep her out!", when he's a massive sallyfag who's posted multiple times about trying to find any way he can to get her back in, and writes half of the other female characters like Sally expies until people complain at him enough for him to give up on it. Furthermore, the idea that because Sega owns the right to the characters, it is absolutely impossible that they could've imposed any sort of internal restriction on their use, is retarded. Whether it's because of the baggage attached to the Archie comics, or jap autism about not wanting to use American-exclusive characters, the higher-ups simply don't want the Freedom Fighters included in anything new, and you'll just have to live with that.

If you were a TRUE & HONEST Flynn hater, you would've posted one of his real blunders, like when he was given permission to introduce Sticks into the comics but kept trying to submit proposals about how she's actually from Angel Island and Knuckles just never noticed her there all this time until Sega just sighed and said "forget it, nevermind".
Or one of the infamous song lyric panels that he will never live down:

As it stands now, the meme of the Sonic fandom being a warzone is quite true. There's the Archie/SatAM side, who are determined to uncover the truth behind the corperate culture within Sega, and discover of the infamous Sega mandates are real, as Flynn claims.

Then, there are the IDW/Flynn crowd, who have an elitist view towards anything that isn't the curremt Sonic project, or anything not made by Ian Flynn, to the point of sperging out like you saw earlier. After years of their enemies trying to uncover the truth, they've done everything in their power, from gaslighting, to the aformentioned death threats against anyone wanting to look into things. They are THAT determined to maintain the status quo, even if doing so kicks everyone else out of the fandom despite being there first.
Look at this, you're seriously painting fans of the freedom fighters show as being "DA REAL LIFE FREEDOM FIGHTERS" against fans of whatever entries in the series you don't like, who are clearly your cartoon bad guys part of some sort of elaborate conspiracy to ruthlessly protect the reputation of some corporation that they complain about all the time too. This sounds like you taking the drama from some retarded discord or another, and projecting the behavior onto the entire rest of the fandom at large.

Or one of the infamous song lyric panels that he will never live down:
That panel at least reads like a joke out of either the last few modern games or the kinda shit those livestreams where the VAs answer outlandish stuff people send in "in character" (blatantly an excuse to goof off when you actually listen to it lmao) the last several years. Actually might've actually originated/been borrowed from one of those because it's weirdly a familiar joke to me despite never seeing this comic panel before down to the abrupt cut away from the song lyric joke to just go "agree to disagree". I've seen some egregious ass shit in terms of dialogue from these comics' out of context panels though.

...God that platypus fucker always looks so fucking out of place whenever I see him. Somehow the white knuckles evil doctor guy from archie he's meant to be a "replacement" for has infinitely more swag.

Now this really is a Sonic thread, the infighting's already begun.

I'd imagine that the reason they even picked his species as a platypus is just because it's a monotrome like the echidna, as some sort of deep-cut reference.

The first time you hear it, you go "Oh, that's a cute little nod." The second time, "haha, I see what you did there." The third time, you're kind of over it. Eventually you start hitting multiple song references per issue, and the tone of tense standoffs and climactic battles get dampened by characters awkwardly trading song lyrics with each other while the bad guy is on the cusp of taking over, or while children in the background get turned into zombies. It's not just Sonic he does it with either...

Compare:
"I made you in my image,
I built your heart, I gave you eyes, I gave you power,
A sense of justice beyond any compare
I gave you hands, a child's face, I gave you hair
But the burden in your heart, I did not put there"

Again, innocent on its own, but the more and more he does it the more you just get tired of it, but he keeps going. At the very least, he seemed to get the message towards his last Sonic issues, so even whenever he comes back I'm sure he'll have learned to do it in moderation this time (hopefully)

That's just the tip of the iceberg, the Sonic community loves balkanizing themselves in half a dozen different ways at once.
You've got classic vs adventure vs boost gameplay, you've got SoA vs SoJ (in regards to who should run the series), whether stories should be more like shounen anime or western children's cartoons... And those are just the major 50/50 splits, you can find small niches of people arguing fervently about things like how Boom was the peak of the series, or whether or not a certain game "ruined" this or that character and permanently changed their direction... And don't even get me started on the shipfag wars.

Goddamn it Ian, you're supposed to rewrite the stuff from the songs, not just have them blatantly start rhyming for no reason.

This stuff can't be that hard to write. Didn't Sonic and Eggman have to work together in those issues? I don't remember their dialogue exactly, but maybe something like this?

Eggman: It's fun when it's just the two of us, like old times!

Random Platypus dude: Excuse me, I am-

Sonic: The day I met you I was already done with this.

Eggman: But we always had fun! We'd fight around the islands, me trying to crush you with giant balls, you freeing all your friends that I need as batteries.

Sonic: Sure, thanks for all the good times, Robotnik.

Eggman: You know it's Eggman, you little needlemouse.

So I was thinking for a bit about various Sonic fangames and I have to wonder, what ideas and concepts do you have for a Sonic game? Either an official one or a fanmade one.
For me I want a game in the same vein as something like EDF where you play as a GUN Soldier fighting various threats to the world. Stuff like the Black Arms, the Eggman Empire, etc. There won't be a class system like EDF, instead any GUN Soldier can take various different weapons and forms of equipment. Maybe things could be balanced by having the option of either playing as a Human or a Mobian/Islander or whatever they're called these days. Both having advantages and disadvantages.

Big thing on my mind is what sort of tone should it have? Obviously if it's gonna be an official game it's not really gonna be that more violent than something like Shadow the Hedgehog, but if it's a fangame then there's a lot more freedom to make things "dark and edgy". I'm honestly mixed on it tbh.

I've had this whole dream idea for an official sonic fan game percolating in my head for a long time. since forces came out and I beat in one sitting and wanted to throw it away. after playing the fan game Sonic GT I realized that game has the exact gameplay I couldn't quite articulate properly enough to explain it to someone. this might be long and WILL be autistic so fair warning. so you know how Sonic Boom was supposed to launch a whole subseries of a reimagined Sonic and all the early concepts were interesting and kind of cool but then the game ended up as something else that just sucked? I was thinking about how cool it would be to do that on a MASSIVE scale with a reboot like a huge fucking story based game that (this was before the movies) reintroduced the Sonic brand as a whole and drop it for an anniversary. the idea is to do a huge 3D open world remake of the Classic Sonic games as a series that leads into reimagined versions of the adventure games in a later sequel incorporating a bunch of crazy sonic shit from all over the franchise's history to entertain autists everywhere but clearly be it's own thing so dumbfucks wouldn't have any reason to complain they've ruined it or changed shit.

you'd call it SegaSonic The Hedgehog (after the arcade game) and it would open with a short adaptation of that game. sonic and friends would be hanging out and Robotnik would come take him, mighty and ray and they'd escape. it'd be kind of like how in BotW the great Plateau area is a few hour long tutorial that just plays like part of the game you'd go through a small open world environment where levels are connected a la jak and daxter 1 and by the time you get home you're now going to go through Sonic 1. you'd pull from various places like the games themselves, archie, fleetway, the cartoons, the weird mangas where sonic is in a rock band, etc so maybe you get home to knothole village and everything is fucked and off you go. it might be like frontiers where there are little side things scattered around but I would prefer side quest things where maybe you have to collect shit for rotor or tekno or go do something for sally or whatever. it'd be kinda like spyro 3 where you can play as other people sometimes for certain things, ray and mighty probably. have a bunch of character dialogue and story shit and probably like frontiers you'd go into the main levels but it'd be like adventure where you get to where they logically start on the map then enter and the gameplay is like that sonic GT fan game. to pad out sonic 1 you could add elements or levels from the first two master system versions and then the second half you end up on little planet and it's sonic cd. DLC would be playable tails in a version of tails adventure leading up to when sonic rescues him in the master system 2 based part somewhere in the game.

then the second game is Sonic 2 & 3&K with Sonic Chaos and Triple Trouble built into the story. continuing on and building on the story and gameplay, I think it would also be cool to have the map change and open up and shit once the death egg falls. it'd be more of the same but Tails and Knuckles have their own whole stories built in you also go through and then the third game would be SegaSonic Adventure and would be based on SA1/2 and expanding the hubworld concept of 1 into the now open world of the last two and with all the random characters and lore we built up in the new continuity. by that point we'd have tons of playable characters and story shit happening even if it's only for challenges or whatever, outside of the main SA cast doing their things. none of this would be 1:1 remakes or anything they'd be their own thing. the one thing I struggle with is I would want to put some variation of Knuckles Chaotix somewhere to introduce those guys but have no idea where it would go or gameplay wise what the fuck that would even be in a 3D game. also to note in all of these once you beat a level you should be able to go back and play them with whoever you want just for fun in the main levels.

funny enough I had this idea for a long time and Frontiers and Origins both came out and I was like wow the sonic game I always wanted got split into 2 separate things, came out, and neither was what I wanted. lol now of course games like this just aren't feasible, for rights issues, but more importantly budget and ambition. Sega would never make games like this. any reboot shit would never adapt the original games, would certainly never adapt anything from other media, wouldn't focus so heavily on story and show sonic and friends age up from classic to modern over a trilogy, and it would cost way too much to make. they can barely make 5 sonic levels to save their lives let alone 50 level games with bosses, an open world hub, multiple playable characters and side quests. this is just one of those "if I could will anything into existence" type ideas, it would be the 3 100 hour AAA sonic games with shit from the DiC cartoons, the OVAs, the comics, and the other ephemera (maybe the characters from boom and idw could be roped in idk) to drop the first one for sonic's 40th to introduce a new generation of kids to it and have tons of crazy shit in it for autists.

for sequels idk what you would do. maybe something that is this universe's version of Heroes and Shadow on mobius with the advance games and battle in it. but the basic premise is a total reinvention of the wheel just using what was already there as a celebration of everything that ever came out of this little blue fuck who ran to the right way faster than that fat fuck mario ever could.

to be clear I wouldn't want it to just be the SatAM or Archie game or whatever I'd just want their writers to look at and pull from everything. hell a part of the game with the fleetway super sonic or something like the brotherhood of metallix would be a sick way to go with some of the stories. just do a big we used some of everything series. a new version of the sonic cast with added characters and lore from other things, a SatAM robotnik stuck with retard grounder and scratch from AoStH, Metallix Metal Sonic, Archie & Fleetway freedom fighters as npcs and occasional challenge playable characters. it'd be fucking crazy. really not just this I'd just love to see giant AAA platformers with a big story and lots of content again.

I'd still like to see a decent RPG game. From what I understand some of the Sonic Team developers have also wanted to do this for a long time. It seems weird but it could work, they just need to copy Mario. Use a battle system that has an action command element. That stylus crap they did on the DS game was a pain in the ass, just let us use the damn buttons!
How about getting some characters in there too? No more trying to copy Ken Penders please, lets stick with what Sega has. I could see there being a big group with Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Cream, Blaze, Shadow, Rouge, for starters. Put them in teams and have them do combo attacks. Hire some damn writers (Maybe not just Flynn) and give us some fun dialogue and dynamics. Collect the Chaos Emeralds like Mario Collects Star Spirits and get crazy new powers for everyone. Have Eggman hiring other villains on top of his crazy schemes. Sega needs to learn how to have fun with this franchise again.

Turn based RPG, persona style hangout with your friends as Sonic. Sonic would be more verbose that a typical JRPG character but you can pick things he says and shape him as irresponsible or heroic. Definitely add some fun 3d exploration between battles. And add mechanics that make the fights faster as the game goes on and the player learns the systems. The end state is fluid, complex 3d exploration interrupted by quick and concise turn based extermination of enemy groups.

I really love the Sonic characters. They are slaves to the poorly written games most of the time. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog shows they can be utilized properly. Social Links and a JRPG style story would give them the ability to shine. I wish SEGA and Sonic Team could get into contact with Atlus somehow... (/sneed)

A new remix dropped, this time it’s the one used for the first half of the Space Colony ARK stage. Probably my favorite song from the game (outside of the Throw It All Away remix no one bothered to record more than five seconds of)
Two new screenshots of Shadow Generations (side note, but Sega, please stop giving screenshots of the Sonic Generations remaster. It looks the exact same. Nobody cares.)

Shadow is also getting a manga in some Japanese magazine or something, idk

It'd be pretty funny if they went back to remaster it and implemented as many possible anti-tamper measures to kill the modding scene of Generations.

They're verging on yaoi hands with this one.
