Fires in that era would surely burn better, but fuel-air-explosions also require pretty careful distribution of the fuel for an effective explosion. There’s a great book by Oliver sacks called the island of the colourblind where he visits Pingelap- a significant portion of the population have an eye defect that renders them all - colour blind. So no colour but they can differentiate textures of greenery by hue. He talks about language and perception of colour.
For example we call red and pink two separate colours but other cultures call pink ‘light red’. There’s a culture that uses two different words for the light vs dark blues as well, as sees them as separate colours.
It’s quite an interesting thing to think about.

Well, while the Chicxulub impact is most commonly assumed as the cause of the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction, some also argue that the extinction took place gradually over a long time, and the eruption of the Deccan Traps seems to fit with that. It'd have been a massive eruption spanning something like 800k years, spewing so much dust and sulphur and everything into the atmosphere it'd have led to the extinction.
Since the Chicxulub impact is also very close in time to the CP extinction, there's also the possibility that the impact caused the Deccan Traps to fully erupt or get worse, together being the extinction event. Maybe the Deccan eruption causing the most damage.
Either way, shit was going down in that era, and it was not fun for those involved.

There is something sinister going on behind the scenes with the trend where every retard on public social media is self-censoring to avoid some alleged janny broom or demonetization. It started off with obvious risks (like you're a monetized channel and you need to be sure to not show an entire penis). But now I go to X and there are posts from these big, legit accounts that read like they were composed in Wingdings:

I don't believe people are actually losing their accounts on Elon Musks internet because they wrote "died" or "shot." These people are responding to training they got somewhere else. Maybe Tiktok. But I think it's being encouraged because it supports something evil that the overlords have planned for us.

It's not really a conspiracy theory, maybe more of a Mandela effect and showing my age but I swear I saw a Time cover or something telling us to prepare for the next ice age when I was a kid. Pre-internet.

There are altered covers that have been shown online. As well as ones that are taken out of context. Such as energy crisis in winter during the 70s, where the freeze is because of less fuel to warm in the winter. Not global cooling.

Public awareness of global warming started in the late 90s. A tactic of those pushing back was to claim that scientists used to claim the earth was cooling. They like to focus on a couple of papers from the 70s. The general public has no awareness of what climate scientists were publishing back then. So on the surface, it seems there's something there. However, literature reviews from the time show that these were an extreme minority. It was something like 7 papers about cooling, versus hundreds about global warming. It was a fake narrative the scientists were flip-flopping. It's science, some people post papers contrary to the mainstream consensus.

This is made more confusing to someone not well versed because we're in an interglacial period. A time between ice ages. So there's complete legitimacy to the notion the earth is going to cool and we'll enter another ice age. Except that is thousands if not 10,000s of years away. Global warming is concerned about more immediate timescales and the impact. The fact the earth's orbital wobble and orientation of the poles (Milankovitch cycles) may lead to cooling in thousands of years isn't a pressing concern right now.

This also provides a good excuse for those against man-made global warming as a theory. It's still the natural warming cycle after an ice age. However, that isn't correct because there's an acceleration of warming with a known mechanism of more CO2 since the Industrial Revolution.

All these things are out there, so it's easy to get a bit jumbled. "Global warming, but aren't we going to enter another ice age?" Both are true but they aren't focused on the same thing.

Interesting enough to hypothesize. The worst concerns over global warming could come true, we could have mass war, migration, starvation, death, destruction and civilisation collapse. Then in thousands of years, humans could think, "thank fuck that happened, the warming prevented us from living in an ice age." However, those timescales and concerns are too far away to contemplate.

Conversely, we could take action. Everything is fine. Then in hundreds or thousands of years they start deliberately burning CO2 to prevent an Ice Age.

Let them be kids!” It’s disturbing and demoralizing to witness and it happens daily. Under 10s, hell, toddlers twerking are met with real life women and men, people with children(!) defending kids being depicted as such while again screaming at normal people to stop sexualizing kids! You’re weird for making it weird! One parenting shitpost group the other day, in the same day, had a post about the fishnets that was overwhelmingly defended. And the same day a post that said, “a baby girls dad should always buy her first ring” and showed a newborn with a tiny gold ring that made people lose their minds. Even the libs didn’t care if it was an ethnic tradition, they screamed about problematic purity and abolishing religion and even accused the father of sexualizing a newborn because something something ring means sex. Any suggestion to preserve your child’s innocence is met with accusations that you’re the reason pedos exist, if we just stopped having so many standards it wouldn’t be so taboo, etc etc. women overwhelmingly defend the right to dress their little girls in revealing clothes and mock and deride mothers and fathers who disagree with accusations that they’re doing the sexualizing for exercising common sense. We should have a thread about parenting group insanity. Unfortunately I was kicked out of most of the ones I’d wandered into for this kind of thing. I’ve seen some things though

It really is. We are very pale and the last thing I want is loads of cutouts. Just a suit, nice bright non blue colour, maybe a tropical print. Not low or high cut, just a suit. Absolutely zero problem getting things for the boys. My solution was to just use nice rash tops and shorts or bottoms - added advantage that they stop midge bites, and you don’t need to try to apply as much sun cream to wriggly kids, as if you need to wander off the beach you’re better dressed for it.
The sexualisation of girl clothes is awful. EVERYTHING is cut low/high/tight, the fabrics are worse and thinner, loads of sexualised prints, and they aren’t as conducive to active play and clinging trees. I used to make a lot of their stuff when they were little - loads of fun bright coloured scandi style prints and nice ‘you can climb a tree in this’ styles.
The only advice I can give is that this has been going on a while, people are insane, stick to your guns etc.

Looking back, there were a lot of schoolteachers in the 80s who were a that-era equivalent to the purple haired freaks in the schools today. Sure we also had some old fashioned schoolmarms (I liked them better- they were strict on the outside, but had a sense of humor if you knew how to appeal to it). But there were a lot of neurotic cat lady libtard types, and they unabashedly used their position as a bully pulpit back then too. They got away with it in part because kids of our generation had a "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" attitude about school, and 4 hours of knocking around the house alone to forget about the day before the parents rolled up to make dinner.
