"Oh people are trying to take the lesbian kids away - it's like those christians." Um... you can't see how a cult-like set up is going to be concerning for anybody? I guarantee you had the show used something Catholic imagery to represent the cult instead of lesbians these guys and the rest of the Internet would be all, "the Jedi did nothing wrong."
I'm pretty sure they were low-key ridiculing that plot point.
I was barely paying attention (in all fairness) as I was letting the Acolyte RE:View play in the background, but at one point they were rambling about cops or some shit and that's about when I gave up and played something else. I feel like they barely talked about the show at all it was just a bunch of yapping.
They were discussing how weird it is that the Jedi are basically presented as cops in The Acolyte.

Same. I just don't care about this show, even if they explain it. Sounds like the dullest bullshit ever. I guess Mike wanted to make this so he could correct the record with grown-up Star Wars Kid and he recognized that other video was a pile of shit, but you also have to ask if the show is this bad why bother

Views. That's half of why they keep going back despite claiming they're done with it (a move which some of my peers have lost respect for them over), the other half being Mike's alcohol-aggravated autism.

They had a few weird takes, like how Squid Game Man was rash for stabbing someone who looked like they were turning into Smoky Diablo and moving to possess a child. That's like reaching for a gun and claiming, "I was only going to aggressively caress it before handing it over to you, officer. I wasn't going to fire it. Honest!"

I thought mike was suggesting it was a parallel to George Floyd or some shit like that?
He said The Acolyte started being worked on roughly 4 years ago, and a certain event around that time might be why the Jedi were portrayed as dirty cops.

I took that as meaning the George Floyd riots.

yeah he pointed out how the Jedi's were portrayed like trigger happy cops. it was another part where he read all the cringe platitudes that made me think Headland was trying to do trans symbolism, but Mike and Jay didn't get it. the girls weren't sisters, they were two versions of the same person who both switched sides. they were born to the witches who didn't understand them, and they had to find another family in the Jedi that knew how to support them in their special abilities. the platitudes Mike quotes:

"I lost everything, but when you lose everything that's when you're finally free"
"I don't trust you." "Nor should you, you should learn to trust yourself"
"We're not defined by what we lose, we're defined by what we survive"
"Mae has always been your wound, maybe he brought you here to fix you, but maybe he brought you here to fix yourself"

the metaphor is a bit muddled if the Jedi are supposed to be like cops. and maybe Headland was going for a generic gay oppression narrative. but all those quotes feel much more in line with what troons tell each other, combined with leaving their old family for a new one (the way troons go no-contact on people who don't participate in their delusions), and "switching sides". I didn't watch the show so I'm just basing this on the review, but I hadn't seen all this stuff mentioned in other episode reviews before.

I was pretty disappointed with their very boomer-tier takes.

"Oh people are trying to take the lesbian kids away - it's like those christians." Um... you can't see how a cult-like set up is going to be concerning for anybody? And their whole bit about comparing the Jedi to cops shows them a bit too hollywood brained. "Why are they overreacting?" Because you're turning a child into smoke? The cops/Jedi should just wait to see whether the kid lives or dies before reacting? "We're watching someone dissolve before our eyes but let's see where they're going with this!"

Gods help me but it was like listening to a TVTropes forum discussion on video.
i think theyre saying thats what the content is trying to say, not that they agree with the jedis being portrayed as bad as a theme because of those actions. just pointing out the obviousness of the allegory

also i started listening to hbomberguy trying to debunk rlm's take on the prequels and i noticed brewis has such a hateboner for people who criticise the stuff he loves contrarianly

RLM made space cop and invented the YouTube video essay.
George Lucas made multiple award winning experimental short-films invented and perfected the hangout film with American Graffiti, tackled slow sci-fi in THX 1138 followed that up his version of the old film serials in the form of Star Wars as well as Indiana jones. meanwhile Mikes gen-x cynicism barely allows him to express sincerity.

tbf to your comment i do agree that mike is weirdly bitter towards lucas. this was prevelant in the plinkett reviews and the hitb of the people vs. lucas, but mike or whoever seems to view him as this big sellout hack hypocrite but a lot of his actions are only bad out of context. like the disney deal i dont think it just went to his pocket right? i think a lot of it went to charity or to a startup for young filmmakers. that's like calling jim henson a hack for selling the muppets to disney

I remember in their Red Tails review from before the Disney sale they spent the second half of the review discussing Lucas and his repeated lies about the film. He basically created an early version of what is the now more common culture war type social media controversies we are constantly seeing pop up. He did this by the way to cover up for the fact that the film sucked because he chose to take a extremely campy approach to it.

I don't think they are bitter towards Lucas. They just see him for what he is: an egomaniac who is himself bitter over the fact that he isn't revered and held in high regard the way he once was. He also only cares about himself and not about the art.

It is also isn't hard to see that Star Wars itself had a little bit of a negative impact on the media world around is, which is probably another reason for not liking him.

Mike might have heard the tragedy of Darth Lucas The Wise. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Lucas was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the (((midichlorians))) to create Dystopian Hard Science Fiction… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even use Robert Duvall as a leading man and make audiences want to watch bald people try to fuck. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was the stupidity of the entertainment industry, which eventually, of course, he embraced. Unfortunately, he thought, "why not give these morons what they want?", then he gave them Soft Science Fiction Fantasy. Ironic. He could save others from garbage, but not himself.

As for Discovery, I know a lot of normies who really like that show.
None of them are Star Trek fans but that show wasn't made for Star Trek fans.
This is very true. My brother hated Star Trek and refused to watch TNG with my parents and me when we were growing up. He loves Discovery and Strange New Worlds, though. He tried to get into the other shows and still hated them
