A clip of Joe Biden stumbling over Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin's name and then saying "the Black man" has gone viral.
The video is a snippet from a Breaking Entertainment News (BET) interview with the U.S. president, part of a special called Black America Votes, that aired on Wednesday.
Biden said: "And so, it's all about, it's all about treating people with dignity. It's about making sure that—look. I mean, for example, look at the heat I'm getting because I named uh, the secretary of defense, the Black man, I named Ketanji Brown, I mean, because of the people I've named."
Most of the videos posted on social media stop at the reference to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, but longer clips available online include the mention of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, who the president nominated to the Supreme Court in February 2022. Newsweek has contacted Biden's campaign team via email for comment.
The interview comes as Biden's health and cognitive ability have been called into question since his poor performance in the first presidential debate with Donald Trump in Atlanta on June 27.
Since then, he has made multiple other viral gaffes, including last Thursday, when he called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "Putin," during a speech about the United States supporting Ukraine to fight Russia's invasion.
"And now I want to hand it over to the president of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination, ladies and gentlemen, President Putin," Biden said, before realizing the error.
Zelensky made light of the mistake, telling the president, "I'm better." Biden responded: "You're a hell of a lot better."
In Wednesday's BET interview, Biden said he would consider stepping down if he had a medical condition that affected him.
Journalist Ed Gordon asked him: "Is there anything that you would look to...to say 'if I see that, I will re-evaluate'?"
Biden answered: "If I had some medical condition that emerged, if doctors came and said 'you've got this problem, that problem'."
It comes as the White House on Wednesday confirmed that Biden has tested positive for COVID, causing him to cancel his appearance at a UnidosUS event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This has taken Biden off the campaign trail at a critical moment for the President amid weeks of calls from his own party to step down.
