It's all part of the male loneliness epidemic in society. I don't think the 2D aspect is as important as forming one degree of separation between the actress and the consumers.

The appeal of v-tubers is that they're substitute girlfriends mixed with a community chat. The anime or Japanese aspect is purely cosmetic so that it feels more like the cartoons they like to watch. The girls character act as lady on the streets, tiger in the sheets to help sell the idea of being the "ideal girlfriend". Some like this Kiki bitch could be taking it too far or has over time displayed her true personality. Very very few people are able to fool all the people all the time and eventually the RP and personal will start to slowly blend together.

I have a friend into this stuff and he's surprisingly very normal and the v-tubers he watches aren't from what I've heard anything like the ones gator watches. I wish he'd get a gf though but it's rough out there apparently.

If you're older than 20, it's not about whether it's hard to find women or even ask women out, it's about finding women worth asking out. While I don't want to give specifics, he's northward of 35. The kinds of single women out there at that age aren't exactly the cream of the crop. Single mothers, obese women, ugly women, drug addicts, mental issues, etc.

You're right insomuch that he just needs to put himself out there, but he's dated multiple women in the past and it just never worked out I guess and so he's no longer looking and resigned to being a v-tuber simp.

I think there is a common misconception people have that all of these guys are weirdos like gator or nick fuentes, but I think probably half of them are just guys who never held a long term relationship and just have stopped trying. Pretending to be in a relationship with an internet girl selling the girl next door girlfriend experience is seen as preferable to dating irl single women in their 30s or 40's.

I'm fairly certain if he met a girl who liked to game, was attractive, and had a personality like the hololive girls he likes, he'd be content to date them instead of spending his hard earned cash on a grifter.

Yeah I don't think it's a problem that has an easy solution. I mentioned it here because I want to point out not everyone involved is some greasy pervert neckbeard who hangs around the lolicon booth.
