This was the most bizarre thing to me considering they were willing to talk about January 6 and George Floyd but Woolie was worried about gaming news?
Or Stop Asian Hate, Ukraine, Palestine, a typical bombing or mass shooting (such as Vegas shooting or Christchurch shooting), COVID-19, etc.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Pat is doing everything right. If I could make tens of thousands by sitting at home in my pajamas, eating on camera, playing video games poorly, occasionally making a retarded remark, and joining a zoom call once a week to make fun of a buckbroken black guy, I'd quit my job right this fucking second. Even more impressive is that Pat doesn't seem to ever grow his audience, either, yet seems to be perpetually doing fine.
He's factually doing most things wrong for a Twitch/YT channel.

However you're right that he seems to be doing fine and there's a certain alluring zen to how little he seems to give a shit about it all. He's been treating his job like a "normal" job wherein he has already put in his 2 weeks and is just running down the clock - but has been doing it for ~6+ years somehow.

There's an old clip of Pat on a podcast talking about how carefree of a life he imagined DSP has and I think somewhere along the line he decided "why can't I do that same thing?" and stared pushing on boundaries and hasn't hit any kind of snapback point.

Woolie speaks with surprising candor about his own life & career:

This clip begins literally the moment the other one ends, and is just here so you watch Woolie's dealings with Matt and Pat flash before his eyes for about four seconds at the very end:

Pewdiepie wasnt just a lucky guy with child fanbase, he was a pioneer who morphed into the face of youtube. Pdp didnt ride trends, he started them. He was also a one man shown unlike woolie.

I think Woolie's idea is that "people back then would watch me play any random garbage game so CLEARLY it was my charisma carrying the channel and games were just content fuel". This misses the point that

1-The bad games were half the appeal of the channel (at least to me). I'd take an Escape the Bug Island lp over a souls LP any day.

2-Woolie was carried by his co-hosts covering his flaws. Pat would tell him the difference right and left, Matt would double down the absurd jokes and liam would play the game good and say cloudnigger.

Even outside the context of games, it makes no sense for woolie to assume HE's the only reason people watch when that was never the case before. Look at HIS channel and Woolie didnt have the balls to be a solo streamer like Pat, he hired his previous editor and a friend, presumably because he's self aware that he lacks the charisma to solo carry.

If someone has the timestamp of woolie not getting how people watch the podcast for news i'd like to see that. Like, does woolie realize that some people genuinely only watch his videos for Reggie and not him? Reggie has been on there for over 7 years (jesus christ i feel old), might as well put his name in the title.
He's nostalgic for an era that rewards mediocrity. Which also doesn't exist, considering even Pewdiepie and Markiplier uploaded like crazy to make sure people saw his shit.

@Cakehorn
Well that is an insanely defeatist view of the world. I guess Woolie's convinced himself that you have to be evil and devoid of human emotion to be anything more than D-list YouTuber.

It absolutely exists.

Not for Markiplier or Pewdiepie, but there are huge swathes of Youtubers who were/are patently mediocre and made piles of money. Game Grumps, DarkSidePhil, Reaction Channels, summary channels, etc.

Woolie just doesn't seem to get his history is also mediocre - SBFP was well liked but a Let's Play is just Youtube Junk Food and not exactly "high brow content" and that Woolie's solo content is even worse (it's just chopped up Twitch VODs). He just doesn't seem to have a single hustling bone in his body and it shows through in everything he does.

https://linktr.ee/wooliewoolz - for example. For starters - he never fully committed to his brand. He's WoolieVersus on some places, WoolieWoolz on others (not even to mention that there's already a more established and prominent streamer named 'Woolie'). His Linktree is barren and not even sorted correctly (as he's #1 a Twitch Streamer and creates virtually no new content for YT but his LT isn't sorted that way).

"Woolie vs The Algorithm" is dogshit. As a clip channel it's mediocre to bad but as a concept it's terrible. He's comically late to it - every other YT'er has had an Algorithm arc and all it is now is "Advertising is tough so we have a Patreon with exclusive stuff" which Woolie didn't even do as of yet.

This is mostly all stuff Pat knew when he split off and if Pat is running a tighter ship then you, you really need to look inside of yourself.

Well Matt got himself in the latest OSW Review episode discussing WrestleMania 40.

Matts been somewhat into wrestling since they all god back in during the old channel/friendcast days but its hillarious to see him really get back in when "its good again"

Seeing Matt in this video actually reminded me of his 1 endearing quality. He could bring up the most obscure old video game shit constantly which gave Pat and Woolie shit to riff on. This fucker out of nowhere brought up Wonderbook for the PS3. Nobody has thought about Wonderbook since it came out in 2012 and died the next day.

Matt's love for bad and obscure gave some of my favourite LPs like Chasing dead, escape from bug island and ride to hell. As far as i remember Woolie + Pat never played those types of games together.

also, funny how the Dragon Dogma 2 honeymoon phase ended and the circlejerk is now about how underwhelming the game is. Pat never actually finished the game despite bashing people who criticized it on twitter.

I defended DD2 earlier in the thread and I still largely stand by what I said. However the honeymoon phase is well past with myself as well. The game has an overwhelming amount of issues that creep up the further you get and I hate knowing I'll have to pay for a Dark Arisen style expansion to iron out its issues, but the underwhelming story and characters are something it won't fix.

Apparently Woolie didn't know beaner was a slur lol

I wonder if Pat is gonna suddenly change his public opinion on the SH2 Remake now that we got Happy Burger Angela and the news that SBI was involved

he didn't finish it despite not shutting the fuck up about every chance he got? lmaoo, how mid was that game???

Itsuno should've given us DMC6 or whatever new DMC (DmC 2?) instead.

Well he was sponsored by capcom so how could he NOT shill it?

I didnt play but i think people finally realized the game is basically "Dragon dogma 1 but with less depth and variety on a bigger map". The problem is that fans were extremely defensive over everything, insisting itsuno finally got to fulfill his vision and the frustrating design is actually PEAK and gamers are babies. I remember pat retweeting someone calling gamers "tyrants" for being upset they can accidentally wipe a full city of NPCs in a game with no save slots or new game button.

I also remember glancing multiple tweets of Pat calling it a terrible stream game because it would be 4 hours of him fumbling around in the open world fighting the same mobs and losing viewers, so he straight up stops streaming and doesnt finish it.

There is no way Pat's gonna change minds on SH2 remake, Pat hates bloober team because twitter and bobvids told him to. Unless the game releases to universal aclaim + twitter mob acts defensive he will go in hating it.

A few things worth talking about on this week's podcast:
  • Pat and Woolie's I have No Mouth and I Must Scream LP has been picking up traction due to a revival in the subject. Woolie was notified of this and was apparently impressed by the numbers. However, that was on the old channel, which I though Matt inherited in the divorce. Not sure what's going on there.
  • Woolie threw a huge bitch fit about not liking a anime game called Megaton Musashi W: Wired that was originally a mobile game. He was digging it during the LP, but when he saw all of the microtractions he decided he hated it. He spent almost an hour arguing with chat on what a GAaS was, and eventually gave up saying he is just going to call them dark pattern games instead. Look forward to the clip on that one.
  • News segment was under 40 minutes in length despite being almost 4 hours. It keeps getting shorter and shorter every week.

They ended up nerfing the dragonsplague mechanic hard because of screaming redditors who dropped the game after a week. I'm actually a little mad because in my 70 hour playthrough while using a variety of hired pawns I never once experienced its effects. It sounds uber frustrating but also very intriguing to experience. I'm told NPCs respawn after 7 in game days anyhow.
