People who take stimulants don't get good nutrition (that's why Nick lost so much weight). This greatly impacts a drug user's hair, skin, and nails.

If you're white or Asian, the impact on your skin is that you're going to have marks on your arms and legs that look kind of like sores or bruises but are actually just signs of general unhealthiness.

If the kids can't take care of themselves, it's Nick and Kayla's fault, not the kids. So I ask, what do the expectations of competently raised teenagers have to do with this situation and this thread?
