This thread makes me laugh so hard, just the sheer existence of it. I turned around for few hours just to have some irl activities and bam, 55 unread PAGES.
Null is unironically a sweet angel boy that deserves a pat on the back for creating this space for us, to be able to say that Nick and Kayla are a pair of irredeemable losers.
From briefly scanning the posts, the funniest was the one where Nick said that people "know NOTHING". Lulzerinos, sides hurt, eyes rolled all the way back into another dimension. We know the charges, that's something.
 
Nick is your classic, successful psychopath. You see it a lot in career paths such as law and finance. If you're able to master being superficially charming like Nick had, you are in a great place to manipulate the people around you to think you're a decent person. This is why everyone he knows is falling over themselves to say how good a guy he is, what a shame it is this happened, and pray for his recovery.

I'll just ask anyone who does think that Nick is just an unfortunate man who fell into the wrong behaviours to think very hard whether they have seen him exhibit the following traits, as per the DSM-V clinical criteria for Antisocial Personality Disorder (aka psychopathy/sociopath) :
  1. Failure to conform to social norms concerning lawful behaviors, such as performing acts that are grounds for arrest.
  2. Deceitfulness, repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for pleasure or personal profit.
  3. Impulsivity or failure to plan.
  4. Irritability and aggressiveness, often with physical fights or assaults.
  5. Reckless disregard for the safety of self or others.
  6. Consistent irresponsibility, failure to sustain consistent work behavior, or honor monetary obligations.
  7. Lack of remorse, indifference to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another person.
Oh wait, it's all of them, he does all of that.

You'd be surprised how big homeopathy is. I went to B&N looking for a philosophy book and the entire field of philosophy had 3 racks on a single shelf, but homeopathy and Wiccan crystal magic had TWO WALLS floor to ceiling.

Sure. I was referring solely to a situation where somebody pleads not guilty, judge or jury finds them guilty and convicts and then they offer a plea of mitigation in which they claim to be 'in recovery' and taking responsibility for their actions.

There's an example of same from Nick's very own legal career, in which the woman who defrauded her employers is convicted and the judge refuses to buy into her plea of mitigation, arguing that she hasn't accepted responsibility and has made no attempt to repay the family whose lives she's ruined.

The other thing I'd point out is that a reluctance to wholeheartedly accept somebody's plea of mitigation isn't a punishment. Rather, it's simply an unwillingness to grant any additional credit. You're still only going to get whatever the tarriff for that particular offence is -- you just aren't getting any favours from the judge if they don't buy your story because they see it as inconsistent with your actions.

Does anyone know if the previous case Nick was an attorney for (that was for these same charges, possession + possession of a gun while having a controlled substance) was also overseen by Judge Fischer? I wonder if she will take that in consideration and go beyond the first time offender guidelines for whatever Nick pleads down to.
