Hate to double post, but what's everyone's thought on Mockingbird #8? I won't spoil it though!
(I previously posted this in the Social Justice Warriors thread)
Ok - so I read that last issue of Mockingbird (thank you internet scanlations pages for saving me from wasting money on that garbage), and it's even worse than I heard.
1) Phantom Rider confronts Bobbi on a ship with a crowd of her friends cosplaying as Marvel heroes. They try to stop him by acting like they have the actual powers of the characters they are dressed as. I almost went blind from cringing so hard.
2) It was one of those "nerd cruises", so geek troubadours "Paul & Storm" were there. Jesus, the writer is trying so hard to prove her geek cred. No one cares, Cain.
3) Phantom Rider calls up dead pirates to help him, and they refuse because they're feminists. Seriously. Pirates were so well-known for their work toward feminist causes, right?
4) Bobbi claims she wasn't raped by Rider, and that it was Hawkeye merely gaslighting himself to avoid admitting that Bobbi cheated. DA FUQ? Which means that she was letting Clint believe in this delusion, and contributing to the gaslighting. Plus, having read the whole WCA series, there was no way that the whole West Coast Avengers team got gaslighted into believing it too. This also means that she let Phantom Rider fall to his death for no justifiable reason. This is one of THE STUPIDEST retcons in the history of comics, ever. Feminists have such an irrational aversion to rape, that they will try to pretend that it doesn't happen, and any form of media that dares to address it is akin to rape itself. So any excuse to erase it, no matter how moronic, is justified in their minds.
Speaking as someone who was raped himself, I prefer not to stick my fingers in my ears and go LALALALALA! every time the subject is brought up. I could understand if Bobbi's rape was done for shock value, was done in a disrespectful way, or handled idiotically. But this wasn't the case. Her rape was only alluded to -not shown- and Bobbi was given full agency and respect throughout. This was just someone saying "RAPE IS BAD! I FIX NOW!"
5) Bobbi is thrown overboard by Rider, and she gets saved by a group of mer-corgis. Yes, you read that right- half corgi, half fish. This book deserved to get canned months ago, and Chelsea Cain should never be allowed within 20 feet of a comic book again.
