A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Parts of the Tories party were trying to use him as a poster boy for castle doctrine to be introduced but it’s an incredibly bad case to point to.

Personally I think any house breaker should forfeit their lives but sadly I’m not in charge.
Even the U.S. doesn't really enforce castle doctrine that way, even in Texas, where it's known for a grand jury to refuse to indict someone who shot someone stealing their car.

While I was working in Glasgow, I tried attending an Orthodox Church
The thing to remember is that no-one attends the whole of an Orthodox service from start to finish apart from the priest conducting it. People turn up when they feel like it, leave when they have to, and aren't embarrassed to nip out for a cigarette break midway.

I didn't know that, or notice it during the service, other than when a woman had to step out because her baby was crying. That feels like something online Orthodox would get very upset about if they found out. When I regularly looked at the Christianity thread on /gif/, I saw this post from a Serbian guy complaining about Americans coming into Orthodox services and being really anal about the way things are meant to be done (he described getting side-eye from "Johnny American" because he did 2 cross symbols over his body instead of 3).

Looks like the BBC will have to issue another half-hearted apology soon.

The BBC has been accused of fuelling anti-Israel sentiment after a pro-Palestinian student claimed the country had been found guilty of a “plausible genocide” in an interview.
The incorrect comments, made in an interview with Amol Rajan by a student at the University of Leeds were not challenged on-air, and the corporation has told The Telegraph it does not plan to issue a correction.
Speaking on Radio 4’s Today programme on Wednesday morning the student said “the ICJ [International Court of Justice] ruled that Israel is committing a plausible genocide” in Gaza.
Mr Rajan did not correct the claim despite the International Court of Justice judge – who presided over the January case – saying in a BBC interview two weeks ago that it “isn’t what the court decided”.
As presiding judge Joan Donoghue made the ruling, which found Palestinians had a plausible right to be protected from genocide in Gaza, she said: “The court is not required to ascertain whether any violations of Israel’s obligations under the Genocide Convention have occurred.
“That will happen at a later stage of the process.”
Ms Donoghue later said in an interview on the BBC’s HardTalk programme on April 26 that the court “didn’t decide that the claim of genocide was plausible”.
“It did emphasise in the order that there was a risk of irreparable harm to the Palestinian right to be protected from genocide,” she said.
“But the shorthand that often appears which is that there is a plausible case of genocide isn’t what the court decided.”
The name of the student, who is participating in a campus encampment, was given as Issy.
A BBC spokesman declined to offer a correction.
The BBC spokesman said: “The student who was interviewed offered what has been a widespread interpretation of the ICJ ruling. This wasn’t the focal point of the interview, and we made appropriate challenges in other areas.”
The Campaign Against Antisemitism condemned the decision, saying the false claim was not a “one-off” and would pour “even more fuel on the fire”.
“People are entitled to their own opinions but not to their own facts,” the spokesman said.
“Given how claims about genocide have been so central to the discourse about Israel and Hamas that is firing up anti-Semitism in Britain, one would have hoped that journalists and presenters at our national broadcaster would take the time to understand the basics so that they are not pouring even more fuel on that fire.
“If this were a one-off, it would be one thing, but it isn’t.”
Jonathan Turner, chief executive of UK Lawyers for Israel, said the “false interpretation” has had a “terrible impact on social cohesion and the safety of Jews in Britain”.
“Having played a major role in propagating the false interpretation of the ICJ’s ruling in the first place, the BBC has a particular obligation to correct it whenever the issue is addressed,” he said.
“The BBC’s Charter requires it to promote public purposes that include contributing to social cohesion. If the BBC continues to do the opposite, it should be dissolved.”
The ICJ’s January ruling is frequently cited by pro-Palestinian activists as evidence for claims that Israel is guilty of genocide.
But it did not actually consider the question of whether genocide had occurred or if it was “plausible”.
The Today programme devoted its prime 8.10am interview slot to the Leeds student ahead of a meeting of university vice-chancellors, the Education Secretary and the Prime Minister at No 10 on Thursday.
The meeting came after US-style pro-Palestinian encampments sprung up on university campuses across Britain in recent weeks.
Activists have demanded that universities cut ties with Israeli companies and universities and make a public call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Pressed by Mr Rajan on whether she was opposed to anti-Semitism, she said: “Of course we’re opposed to anti-Semitism, we’re opposed to all forms of oppression.”
Gillian Keegan, the Education Secretary, was interviewed on Today after the student and described her demands as “unreasonable”.
“I respect Issy’s right to free speech but I think her demands were unrealistic, unreasonable and obviously people go to university to share views and to get educated and understand others’ views and I suggest Issy has probably got a bit of a way to go,” she said.

The Church of Scotland teetering on extinction doesn't surprise me; the rise of some weird thing called The Humanist Society, though, that kinda does.
I don't know about any regular service they do but I've been to a few humanist funerals and they were better than any Christian service I've been to. If humanists are beating them out on funerals and weddings I can 100% see why.

It seems it was forgotten or buried, but the identity of the Samurai Sword attacker in Hainault was revealed. His name was Marcus Monzo, a 36 year old duel Spanish Brazilian national, amateur musician and self-described "mystic". Apparently he won a sports medal and a few weeks prior to the attack, he dressed up as Robin Hood while doing archery.

Marcus Monzo, 36, charged with murder after Hainault sword rampage left boy, 14, dead and four others wounded is a 'mystic' who dressed up as Robin Hood to play archery weeks before attack"
The man charged with murdering a 14-year-old boy during the Hainault sword rampage is a 'mystic' who dressed up as Robin Hood to play archery weeks before attack.

Marcus Arduini Monzo, 36, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court accused of Daniel's murder along with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article.

Four others were injured during Tuesday's 22-minute rampage, including a heroic female police officer who almost lost a hand.

Monzo is an amateur musician and self-described 'mystic' who dressed up as Robin Hood for an archery game weeks before the attack.

Flanked by three burly male dock officers and one female, the dual Spanish-Brazilian national wore a prison-issue grey tracksuit and held his left hand over his chest for the entire seven-minute hearing.

When asked to confirm his full name, he responded very slowly: 'My full name? As of my recollection it is Marcus Aurielo Audini.'

Monzo is also accused of bursting into a home where a couple were asleep with their four-year-old daughter and attacking her father during the rampage, the court heard.

David Burns, prosecuting, said Monzo allegedly drove a van at speed at Donato Iwule, who was walking on the street, before exiting the vehicle and slashing him around the neck, leaving an injury that required hospital treatment.

Monzo then forced entry into the bedroom of a couple who were sleeping with their four-year-old child and slashed the father in the neck, the prosecutor said.

Mr Burns said he was shouting: 'If you do not believe in God he will cause you harm.'

The prosecutor added: 'He has then left the scene and attacked Daniel Anjorin, a schoolboy on his way to school.'

It is alleged that he stabbed him in the neck and chest.

The court heard that while officers were tending to Daniel's injuries Monzo appeared from a bush and attacked a female police officer with the weapon while she was on the ground.

A second officer named Moloy Campbell was also injured, the court heard.

Senior District Judge and Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring said: 'I am going to send your case, all seven charges, to the Central Criminal Court, you might know it as the Old Bailey.

'I don't have the power to consider bail. You will therefore be remanded in custody to appear at the Central Criminal Court on 7 May.'

Social media photos show Monzo smiling and doing a thumbs-up with a collection of medals round his neck after success in a sports contest.

Daniel Anjorin, pictured here with his mother Grace, was tragically killed during an attack in Hainault on Tuesday

On Boxing Day last year, he posted another video on the same Instagram page showing him larking around in Robin Hood fancy dress during an archery competition. He spoke in Portuguese as he joked with friends.

Elsewhere on social media, Monzo describes himself as a 'mystic and a musician'.

He also lists himself as the director of a London-based company which has now been dissolved.

Daniel was remembered last night as a 'true scholar' with a 'gentle character' - as well-wishers raised more than £28,000 on GoFundMe for a celebration of his life.

The 14-year-old was said to put a smile on faces whenever he walked in the room while being described as a 'very much-loved' boy who brought joy to his family and was an 'admirable' student at his prestigious independent school.

Daniel attended Bancroft's School in nearby Woodford Green, the £24,999-a-year school, which yesterday flew its flag at half-mast while flowers were laid by fellow students.

His heartbroken parents are trusting in their deep Christian faith to cope with their profound shock and grief at his killing, family friends revealed.

Bancroft's School said on its website: 'We are devastated by the heartbreaking news of the death of Daniel. This has left us in profound shock and sorrow.

'He joined Bancroft's at seven years old and quickly became a core member of our community. He was a true scholar, demonstrating commendable dedication to his academic pursuits.

'His positive nature and gentle character will leave a lasting impact on us. Losing such a young pupil is something we will always struggle to come to terms with.' Nottingham stabbing victim Grace O'Malley-Kumar, 19, had also been a pupil at the Bancroft's.

Larking? Do they mean Larping?

Does anyone find it weird or strange that the media aren't calling this a racially motivated attack, or a racist attack? It most likely isn't, but the dude drove a van into the house of a black man, attacked him and then killed a black kid. Usually, the media would be jumping on that narrative like a fatty on a trampoline.

They must be covering something up in that case. It'd be like hot gold to the press normally.

No. Larking about. Acting up or playing.

Now that you mention it, yeah. It makes me think something is happening in the halls of power, that the media luvvies are privy to, but that we haven't seen yet. They tend to ramp down the emotionalism when they're not sure how their chosen narrative will land, or when they're unsure of the narrative direction their higher ups want to pursue. It's like the way stories on troons were running right before Cass was released. I suspect we may see a change of policy direction on immigration and immigrants from the media-political class shortly.

Larking about, like tom-foolery, but the article says he was larking as Robin hood, but in that context, wouldn't it be larping as Robin Hood? Maybe it's just my word autism?

Hopefully, but even before the recent ramp-up of immigrant talking point - something that has been a hot topic before even Blair was in power, I find it strange that now, of all times, now, when we're force more migration than ever, being forced to foot a higher bill than ever, and while we're beaten with the 'diversity is our strength' message more than ever, that the media would now stay away from a racial narrative handed to them on a plate.
I hope you're right and that the winds of change are here, I really do hope that. Though my spidey sense is tingling in the direction of "there's more to this man than meets the eye". Is he a troon? A muslim? An illegal? or some other form of protected class?

The mad bit of all of it is that this does seem like a genuinely racially motivated attack. He targeted a black family to start with, then killed a black kid. Strange, it's all very strange.

It is a bit strange. He was quoted during the attack saying "If you do not believe in God, he will cause you harm." I wanted to try and look up his instagram to see what else we could find about him, but I don't want to register for instagram. Maybe other Kiwis could try finding him on it. Though it might be taken down now.

Nope. The plan to plaster the country with endless shitskins is well underway. Rishi Sunak seems to be saying we haven't seen anything yet in regards to immigrations and it's going to change in the next 5 years. Just in time for Agenda 2030?

Daily Mail link because I'm shit at these things.

I'm not sure I agree. To the extent that he said anything, it's that that labourists are dangerous and the tories are safe, so please vote for the tories. Other than that, it's just the usual pre-election grandstanding, light on detail and heavy on "don't change captains in the middle of a storm" rhetoric.

Something feels different in the background, though. There is a conflict between entrenched and radical positions on multiple fronts and a lot of circumstantial evidence that something is going to change in a pretty fundamental way. If sunak is signalling anyting, it's that, but as a politician it is best to assume that he's always lying. The radical shift on trans issues in just the last month signals at least one direction things might go; in the lead up to that, the media flailed between hard pushing of the entrenched orthodox view and conspicuous moments of shying away to neutral reporting. They still aren't quite sure how to respond to it.

Regardless of what actual policy positions will be adopted, I suspect we'll see the government quickly develop a hard line on mass immigration as the election nears, because that's always a vote winner. The question is whether that results in an institutional backlash, leaning even harder into pushing the acceptance of mass immigration as a fuck-you to everyone who opposes it, or whether it opens the gates for genuine criticism of the current order from the silent plurality within the institutions who thought they were alone, the same way Cass did.

Is he a troon? A muslim? An illegal? or some other form of protected class?
They probably know it will incite the already-bold none-whites into an attack against whites.

They've got metrics to see who is reading what, and at what times - you'll see that UK YouTube is now predominantly right wing, there's multiple zoomer politicians openly preaching for mass deportations, and they're concerned that if there's more "Summer of Love" shit, it will completely destroy their reputation amongst whites.

And thus, they would lose their entire power.

I'll give you a hint.

Edit, whoops, never mind. Article already has a thread.

Creepy shitskin arrival filming children at Paignton and captioning his twitter video with "cute baby." People are naturally concerned about this and report the link to the police only to get blocked by them. We are so fucked, utterly betrayed at every turn. :(

We are so fucked, utterly betrayed at every turn. :(
Understatement of the decade. And on that note...

I think it is high time that we start compiling information and resources Kiwis and normies alike can use to help prepare for the incoming shitshow. I know there's been a couple of "prepper" threads posted in General Discussion but they petered out pretty quickly and to be frank prepping seems to be geared towards bushcraft/bugging out/the end of the world LARP (I'm amazed there isn't a thread on prepping lolcows tbh). To have a thread people can go to to find actual useful resources and advice would be phenomenal, I think.

I'll start with something very relevant to the UK right now:

- When There Is No Doctor
- When There Is No Dentist

Both of these can be found on archive.org. Get them. There's so much info that can not only help you when you're told that you'll have to wait 23 months just for a referral, but also arm you with info that can call out doctors that don't intend to help you at all (antibiotics come to mind).
