I don't think Lovecraft was even that racist by the standard of his day.The thing that really annoys me about myopic takes on history like this is it omits the fact there used to be all sorts of dumb shit laws on the books because of 'morals and decency' that seem ludicrously oppressive by modern standards; it wasn't some unique crusade against gay people. Lenny Bruce and George Carlin both got arrested repeatedly for using curse words in their act, something that seems absolutely laughable today (unless you're teaching your pug to do tricks), but it was the law back then because people were a lot more stuck up generally, not just in regards to dudes in dresses.
It's the same with how people constantly harp on about H.P. Lovecraft being a horrible racist, as if everyone else living at the turn of the 20th century was super-progressive and absolutely loved other races.
He was more of an equal opportunity misanthrope tbh.
He struck me as someone who was extremely introverted and pretty much felt distate for people, especially uncultured people, in general.
He did keep a vast correspondence list, Lovecraft was a guy who preferred to write letters than socialize in person, and he wrote regularly to a lot of published and aspiring authors, among whom some were Catholics, Irishmen, Italians, and Negroes, people you wouldn't think an early 20th Century New England WASP like Lovecraft would want to talk to if he was as racist as Current Year wokescolds make him out to be.
Homies wife was fucking Jewish ffs.
I don't think a racist, especially in the early 20th Century, would be dicking down a Jew.
