The thing that really annoys me about myopic takes on history like this is it omits the fact there used to be all sorts of dumb shit laws on the books because of 'morals and decency' that seem ludicrously oppressive by modern standards; it wasn't some unique crusade against gay people. Lenny Bruce and George Carlin both got arrested repeatedly for using curse words in their act, something that seems absolutely laughable today (unless you're teaching your pug to do tricks), but it was the law back then because people were a lot more stuck up generally, not just in regards to dudes in dresses.

It's the same with how people constantly harp on about H.P. Lovecraft being a horrible racist, as if everyone else living at the turn of the 20th century was super-progressive and absolutely loved other races.
I don't think Lovecraft was even that racist by the standard of his day.
He was more of an equal opportunity misanthrope tbh.
He struck me as someone who was extremely introverted and pretty much felt distate for people, especially uncultured people, in general.
He did keep a vast correspondence list, Lovecraft was a guy who preferred to write letters than socialize in person, and he wrote regularly to a lot of published and aspiring authors, among whom some were Catholics, Irishmen, Italians, and Negroes, people you wouldn't think an early 20th Century New England WASP like Lovecraft would want to talk to if he was as racist as Current Year wokescolds make him out to be.
Homies wife was fucking Jewish ffs.
I don't think a racist, especially in the early 20th Century, would be dicking down a Jew.

I don't wanna derail the thread too much but I like talking about Lovecraft.

I've always regarded his 'racism' as a manifestation of the general anxiety about the unknown he clearly coped with through his writing. For a man with his particular neuroses, growing up largely surrounded by people who look exactly like him, I can't imagine the effect it must have had the first time he saw a Chinese person; I can totally understand why his mind would start rationalizing this as some humanoid creature that walked out of the sea. I don't think he was ever really about denigrating other races, it was just how his peculiar mind made sense of them.

It's something that's basically impossible for us to conceive now, thanks to the ill-advised cultural melting pot the west has become meaning you're exposed to different cultures and races from an early age, but you can see a similar version of what I'm talking about with how a lot of native Asians still regard black people as some fascinating novelty, (when they're not outright frightened by them).

I never said there was a unique crusade against gay people, and to infer that from anything I wrote is an interesting take. The issue was the narrow question of the legality of cross-dressing, not the broader question of public order offences. My post explained how the law would be applied in ways that did and did not affect gay men, lesbians and straight people who cross-dressed. But sure, go ahead, enjoy your chance to seethe away.

I wasn't talking about you, I meant the Redditors who dredge stuff like that up out of the past as evidence to claim there's anuddah shoah happening to trans people. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Apology accepted!

Thread tax: @AnOminous troons out

Crossdressing used to be illegal
Spoiler: off topic spergery
"A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s clothing; for anyone who does such things is an abomination to the LORD, your God." - Deuteronomy 22:5

So yes, cross-dressing has been illegal since the time of Moses, no matter what civil law says.

man, no one hates women like troons.
Gotta give em credit for that one, they've raised the bar so high for western misogynists, it's hard to keep up at times. But inshallah the muslims will show us how it's really done.

The MHRA (UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) has apparently shut down two DIY HRT websites. Presumably, more are on the way.

UPDATE
A moderator of /r/transgenderuk is saying there is a 'pretty good chance' the Vanna site will be back up in the future as they took down the site themselves to 'reduce attention'. Also says that the MHRA wanted Google to delist the sites too.

TERF island is killing it. The last few weeks has been like watching one of those movies where the law executes search warrants on all the bad guys at once and takes them all away at the end of the movie.

sometimes i feel like rowling bought out half the politicians in britain and acts as a shadow PM behind the scenes, and her only goal is achieving maximum tranny seethe

All the fun talk about Lovecraft on this page made me want to drop this anecdote. I'm moving soon and getting rid of a bunch of my books. I don't even really like Lovecrafts writing but I'm keeping his books just because fuck the moral police. It's the same reason I bought that dumbass hogwarts game.

"why do they hate us so fucking much"
I wish they did hate them as much as they pretend they do.

It seems that in the past few years, there has been a small backlash against the trans phenomenon in the UK...a lot of open and card-carrying "TERFs" seem to come from there, and many UK LGB movements are trying very hard to distance themselves from the "T".

What is going on over there? Here in the US, our culture and the media keeps pushing the pink pill or affirming troons/pooners with no end in sight.

Could this be true? Is... Is 2024 the Year of the TERF?

"Don't think for a second Labour won't continue this sick crusade."
Nothing would secure my vote for Keir Starmer faster.
