They have a good foundation to build on. Question being if they'll be able to manage. There's definitely a lot more publishers willing to give it a shot compared to the Wii U so they'd have to fuck up harder for it to get as bad as the Wii U, but still, I'd like more intel on what they're planning to release and whether that may involve them willing to experiment more.

And maybe, just maybe, they can finally start putting Gamecube games on their goddamn eShop. Seriously, it's been how long and Europe still hasn't been able to play Baten Kaitos Origins?
Well with this one they won't have to work the retardation that is the game pad into the game so they can just focus on a game

Well with this one they won't have to work the exceptionalism that is the game pad into the game so they can just focus on a game

And that's what I like about this system; there isn't some stupid gimmick that devs have to work with such as motion controls or an extra screen. It's just a home console that also has the capabilities of a portable one, which is what the Wii U should have been in the first place. Plus who wouldn't want a home-portable console hybrid?

Dispite Skyrim being in the reveal trailer, Bethesda is not confirming that the game will be released on the Nintendo Switch.

Whoa wtf. If skyrim isnt coming to the switch, then thats some bs you pulled there nintendo.

If its also the case that skyrim hasnt been made for the switch yet, then is it safe to assume all the gameplay in the trailer was superimposed?

These people are apparently going to develop for it.
Hmm, Take2 is here...
Combined with today's trailer of RDR2, I would like it if at some point they revealed a Nintendo Switch version of that game. Then I'll never have to bother getting a PS4 (well I still hope it comes out on PC anyway).

I'm cautiously interested about this... but I've learned my lesson with Nintendo. If this is coming out in March of next year, hopefully by this time next year (providing we're all still alive at that point), we'll have a better frame of reference whether or not Nintendo is actually going to have support behind the console or if the third parties are going to avoid it like they did with the WiiU... and the Wii... and the Gamecube...... annnnd the N64 as well.

One thing about the trailer confused me: what sort of sad loser takes the dog out for a walk only to ignore it and play video games
It was pretty clear from the trailer. It's his girlfriend's dog but she's visiting her sister in Seattle and he agreed to dogsit. He honestly loathes dogs because he's more of a cat person, but he loves his girlfriend and she loves that dog so he wants to make sure it's well taken care of while she's gone. She'd be devastated if something happened to Pongo. He might as well play video games while he's at it.

It was pretty obvious if you'd payed attention.

Edit: dogsit is only one letter away from dogshit lol

I thought the wii and gamecube had quite a bit of 3rd party support

The Wii was indundated with shovelware. So yes, there was a lot of games, but the large majority of them were crap. For every No More Heroes, you got a half dozen gimmick waggle-control games. This glut of crap, plus with the Wii easily being the least powerful of that generation's consoles, kept a lot of developers away.

The gamecube did have some third-party support and indeed some really fantastic 3rd-party games (Resident Evil 4, for example, released first on the GCN. And the GCN port of Soul Calibur 2 is considered to be the best out of the bunch), but due to Nintendo's insistence on being unique and creating smaller game discs, this alienated a lot of developers.

This isn't to say these were bad consoles- I actually still own my GCN and only sold my Wii a few months ago - but Nintendo has a notorious track record of coming out strong but never having any follow-through. I really want to believe that this might be the return of Nintendo, but I've been burned by them too many times in the past and can't get myself too excited about the Switch.... at least for right now.

I hope this is a wake up call for Android tablet manufacturers: These things are getting less and less relevant, especially massive tablets without phone connectivity. I hope Nintendo's software doesn't go the route of bloated Android skins (like the Vita).

Why I had an Android tablet instead of a Vita, though I didn't really mind since I was interested in the game emulators I could run on it anyway.

I'm curious to know what the exact appeal of a portable home console would be for you guys. It doesn't spark my interest because I'm never wandering around my house wishing I had my game with me instead of having to pause and get up. Is it because it saves having spend extra on a handheld for when you're out? Because I can get the appeal of just a powerful handheld you can plug into your TV, though I never bought handhelds or consoles for anything but exclusives.

I'm sincerely hoping that this won't be another Nintendo console that's going to sit on my shelf for 18 months collecting dust. The Wii, Wii U, and 3DS have all been doing that. The reveal is showing some signs of hope, though.

I am a little sexually turned on that they seem to be marketing this to young adults, as far as the reveal video shows. This hopefully means the general system UI won't be catered to 6 year olds (I love how the Wii U constantly reminds me to get my parent's permission to do nearly anything in the settings), and maybe Nintendo is finally trying to "switch" to the age range of the nostalgic manchildren that cling to this company brand like grim death. I'm tired of being around a bunch of stupid, smelly kids that can't spell for shit their posts. I'm like the opposite of a pedophile.

The webpage shows some hope that Nintendo apparently has a bunch of third-party developers gathered together for future Switch titles, seeing as though it's one of the main feature points of the reveal. Maybe we'll finally have a respectable console that can properly compete with the Xbox One and PS4, despite being woefully underpowered (but we all know that's not the aim of Nintendo's "philosophy" on specs). I know that historically, third-party developers couldn't be fucking bothered to program their game to specifically interface with the gimmicks of the last two Nintendo consoles (Wii waggle, Wii U secondary screen). The only spin for the Switch this time is that gaming in "tablet-mode" is just going to reduce the resolution to 720p and tone down the graphics to save on battery.

It's a little disconcerting that there's two separate controller flaps for one player, which raises the question of what will happen if you lose one. It has already been shown that you could play games with one controller flap-thing, but I'm sure there's limits and games will demand both. I'll wager one flap will set you back $60.

Fuck it, I'm going to get it. I'll pre-order as soon as it's possible. I'm guessing this shit will probably cost 300-400 bucks when it comes out, and it'll sell like hotcakes to the point where every store has shortages and people will scalp it for profit for the next six months... like the original Wii.

This is your last chance Nintendo! Don't fuck it up!

That's my two C-quarters.

"Switch" is a better name than fuckin' "Wii". I'm old enough to remember when it was called the "Revolution" and we we're all like "Wow, that's a cool name. It's gonna be like a new REVOLUTION of gaming!". Then they announced the name and "Wii"? Fuckin' "Wii"? Are they seriously gonna name a console after what a five year old boy calls taking a piss?

I'd assume it would be more to do with the fact that Skyrim remastered is out very soon and Bethesda don't want people holding off to wait for the switch version.

I wonder if Nintendo are going with a release model that I thought they'd do a while back where they wait a couple of years after the other two release their home consoles then launch something of compatible power, but taking advantage of the fact that it would be cheaper by that point.

It's all about third party these days and Nintendo need to have something that can have ports of what's on the other two consoles, because the cost of development makes third party titles for single consoles increasingly unlikely.
