For all that, Pat never did any time in the can, not really. If he did he probably would have straightened out afterwards. Not having to pay child support also fucked him up in the long run. He got used to everything going his way so he thought things would go well against Quasi because why wouldn't it? He was brow beating Midwestern rubes left and right and never met a true and honest brahmin caste member before.
If people never treated him with kid gloves he might never have stepped into that mess.
EDIT: To this day I don't get what Ade and PCJ were thinking letting Pat terminate his parental rights. Given that there's a record of him threatening to murder his daughter they probably could have gotten it so he had no visitation rights or at worst supervised visits a la Ethan Ralph, and they would have gotten a piece of that book advance money. She could have bought at least one shitty car with that kind of money.

The more I think about this interaction the more clear becomes that Patrick is clearly a total narcissist. He doesn't just want his stalker children in prison but also anyone else who laughs or disrespects him. Using the term lowcow to refer to him is already enough for Fatrick to want your destruction.

He's saying that Trump should have had the Afghan government negotiate with the Taliban directly for the US to leave.
Because 20 years wasn't enough time for the Afghan government to get its shit together so we should have kept shoveling money into that bottomless pit until they were finally ready for us to leave. Nevermind the goal of anyone in the Afghan government was to keep taking US money for as long as possible and then flee the country once the money stopped.

Pratchett had Alzheimers (which killed him) and his later books like the one mentioned have a sharp decline in quality. Its an open secret that his daughter, who works as a writer for EA games, "helped write" them. His books up til around 2005 really are 10/10

The really serious Discworld fans invested enough to write a wiki about all the references in the book can be really insufferable about their ability to understand simple allegory.

Plus as was mentioned, this is a book from the period of Pratchett's cognitive decline. I'd even say it's the last readable Discworld book.

I have attached an agreement outlining the core terms of the agreement with a mutual release in place to limit further litigation and attorneys’ fees related to <onaforums.net>. As to anonymity and the agreement, your client may simply execute a John Doe signature in the same fashion as he did with the court filings and your firm may retain an original declaration alongside it with his full legal name for attorneys’ eyes only, in-camera inspection, if it ever came down to that. Any changes you may propose cn (sic)

There will be no lump-sum payment of the fee award to your client via settlement in the absence of a mutual release and your client foregoing any attempt to collect fees on the Google subpoena. With that in mind, let us know if your client wants the fee award wired or not.

Context​

This was apparently at the time of the Josiah Tapes, when the CloudFlare subpoena case was coming to a close.

The Judge Pro Tem, who was filling in for the actual judge at some hearings, had made an informal remark that he was going to recommend to the actual judge to grant Quasi's motion to quash, but to deny Quasi's request to make Pat pay his attorney's fees.

Quasi apparently trusted his lawyer's advice that the Judge Pro Tem was retarded 'cause the awarding of attorneys fees in this specific situation was mandatory by law, and that the actual judge would therefore award them (which is what ended up happening).

But Patrick put a lot of stock in that non-binding remark by the Judge Pro Tem.
Remember during Josiah 5: "You diD not lisTen to what the Judge Pro Tem saiD, child! Quasi is already ouT that money!"
Apparently, Pat thought this gave him enough leverage to push an unfavorable settlement on Quasi.

EDIT: I got the timeline slightly wrong; As the settlement draft states, it was written after the judge in the CloudFlare subpoena case already awarded (some) attorney's fees to Quasi.
But the Google subpoena case was still open.
So Patrick's entire leverage was basically: Accept this unfavorable settlement which means you will only ever get some of the money you are owed, but in return you get it right now, as a lump sum payment, and this whole thing is over.

In the Josiah Tapes, Patrick expresses his belief that Quasi must have taken out a loan to afford his legal defense, and must therefore be desperate to get paid quickly.
Pat miscalculated - Quasi was in fact prepared for a lengthy debt collection saga.

Settlement Terms​

Lawfags please chime in if I'm not getting this right, but based on the text and Quasi's comments in the linked thread, Pat's proposed terms were roughly:
  • Pat pays Quasi's attorney's fees for the CloudFlare subpoena (but only the ones for court filings and appearances, and not for out-of-court costs).
  • Quasi forfeits any right to collect attorney's fees for the Google subpoena.
  • Pat may not sue Quasi anymore.
  • Quasi may not sue Pat or Pat's lawyer.
  • A system is set up that basically allows Pat's lawyer to dox Quasi if Pat is ever sued by anyone.

Resolution​

Quasi rejected the settlement, and was awarded full attorney's fees, which started the whole two-and-a-half-year debt saga that gave us so much lolmilk.

In the end, Quasi managed to collect his full attorneys fees from Patrick - for both subpoenas, and including out-of-court costs, post-judgement costs, and interest. Oopsie doodles.

Anyone who praises or criticizes a book based on “worldbuilding” is belying their poor reading comprehension and appetite for slop. Worldbuilding is the literal least important aspect of any book in any genre, including sci-fi and fantasy. The Lord of the Rings has a well thought out and intricate mythology, but none of that would matter if the actual story didn’t have characters whom you cared what happened to them. Harry Potter, for all of Rowling’s pitfalls of being a fresh author and being a woman author, did write a story where you could care about her characters; which is why the books got big at all.

Additionally, Discworld’s “worldbuilding” was only ever so deep as to lampoon fantasy writing as a whole. It was more in-depth than Xanth, but both were mostly focused on being fun comedy.

Seriously, there’s a reason why there’s a million “worldbuilding” projects online that just fucking go nowhere, or when they do have a plot they fuck up the landing (Mystery Flesh Pit, any ARG, etc.).

Worldbuilding is basically just mental masturbation, which explains why Pat likes it. Real writers know plot and characters are all that truly matter, lore only exists to further enrich those two things and nothing more. If you focus your project on worldbuilding, you just dick around and don't get anything done as you move aimlessly from one idea to the next without writing anything of substance.

I always found a lot of the little references to be secondary to the books anyway, they were just fun little winks and nods to the reader. At the end of the day the books I read were about people and how they interacted with each other. Had a lot of neat ideas on how magic worked though, something I've always appreciated.

Plenty of writers do goofy little things like that anyway, the first Song of Fire and Ice books have Moe Larry and Curley in it They're the three brigands who attack the group while Catlin is delivering Tyrian to her retarded sister.

In any case, if for whatever reason I write a fantasy novel I'm going to include a fat pigman with bitch tits who is stalked by a gang of children that he threatens with prison time.

I always assumed it was for two reasons. The first to keep Fatrick from ever having contact with their family again, and the second being that with terminated parental rights PCJ could then step in to formally adopt the kid. I wouldn't blame them for wanting to stay far the fuck away from him after those threats.
