Many people have expressed a number of reasons why they enjoyed having the notifications. The biggest one being it reminds them when a thread they may have forgotten about gets engagement again.
Of course, the site is a dictatorship and what the b0ss says goes . I am interested in what the userbase thinks though.
Taking away the notifications removes the utility of stickers. You can simplify it to "muh dopamine" all day long but it doesn't change the fact that sticker-er X wants sticker-ee Y to know that a post was good, or bad, or autistic, or whatever. You can't just cut out half the feedback loop and expect the value to not change.
I am not apologizing for my laziness and need for the convenience sticker notifications give me.
I especially hate that watching threads is the only way to keep up with threads. I dislike that all my watched threads are on the front page with no way to minimize it.
This is such a non-issue that's now an issue. I don't a fuck about my sticker score. Just give me back instant notifications.
I’m on the fence. I want to see how it is without them for a while.
I agree with the first reply in the OP saying that it is nice to be reminded of an old thread you were active in when somebody else discovers it and give you positive rates.
However, I do also know that feeling you get when you have a not popular take and see top hats and the chimp part your brain starts to overreact.
I do think that ratings and it’s instant gratification it might cause people to police their language, a bit too much worrying about getting top hatted or autistic stickers because you went a little bit on against the grain.
There are people who still think this is just whining about sticker points. Even after repeatedly making it clear that it has nothing to do with sticker dopamine.
