I think the Thor's hammer thing is why he is saying the audience is so important, and why he goes to crowded bars instead of enjoying games at home with his wife and "friends." He also mentioned some other time at the movies where he yelled like a manchild and the audience clapped. He needs to feel like his quips are witty and he is loved, deluding himself that the joy is for him when he oinks loudly in a crowd. It doesn't matter what they are cheering for, he will bask in it like he's covered in mud on a sunny day at the farm.
