Literally every election cycle is dominated by poorly-informed morons who simply vote based on the most shallow of factors. That's Political Psychology 101 and the Founding Fathers were acutely aware this is the case. It's neither a good thing or a bad thing; the country was founded with that understanding and it's worked pretty well for us so far because the people who built our government were geniuses who planned ahead.

The 2016 election is remarkable because of how the traditional media roles have totally flipped upside down due to social media, increasingly polarized partisanship of voter bases, and the fact one of the candidates just does not give a flying fuck what CNN has to say about him.

Denying the vote to a citizen just because they're a moron is contrary to basic Enlightenment thought.

The logic behind not letting felons vote is they've committed an actual, tangible wrong against society and therefore lose the right to dictate how things should work.

Powerleveling a bit here, but in my family we have a member with down syndrome, and he's registered to vote. But the thing is, he has no understanding of politics, when he was asked who was the current president (back in 2012) he said it was "George W Washington." His ballot became an extra ballot for my dad.

All I'm saying is, there are people in this world whose freedom to vote would be abused by others. It's a real problem that would have been solved if people like said family member wouldn't be able to vote.

By that logic no one should be allowed to vote because it's done in the context of getting an outcome you want from your chosen candidate.

Someone voting for big govt because they want more welfare is conceptually no different than voting for small govt because you think people should have less welfare. You just agree with one side over another.

We cannot arbitrarily declare people ineligible to vote. It undermines the concept of a democracy.
