The thing also even if all of their lore was outstanding and some of the best stories ever written, UB is inevitable it's just far more cheaper and more profitable to use established Ips. (Don't have to pay for writers ECT...of stories already established.) It's basically why make new IP if established ips and sequels sell more.
It isn't just the lore, it's the gameplay: When WotC picks a new IP to license it's effectively committing to making cards out of some of the best-known characters + events from that IP which takes up spots in the set. Then they have to give those cards abilities that fit with the lore, make sure the big-name cards all work together, and do it all with a reasonable number of mechanics. All these constraints are going to result in a much smaller design space..... which means they can get away with a smaller design team or shorter design time as well.

Spoiler finally dropped, we know what a map token is now. (Was it @Honka Honka Burning Love that predicted an explore function or someone else?)
Doing a quick search, you were the one who first brought up explore-the-keyword on a stick but you seemed to have heard it elsewhere but I did guess the cost and sorcery speed (although I wanted to be reveal and you can surveil 1 if it's not a land or draw it if it is at instant speed instead, fuck creatures and +1/+1 counters)

I remember reading the BFZ storyline in college, and spending my lunch breaks at my new job reading the Ixalan storylines. Time spiral wasn't the end of quality storylines, but something has changed now. It's just not fun any more. I can't stomach any of these new planes and all of the characters I can't relate to or laugh at.
Ixalan's story was only good for the Jace and Vraska interactions which they did everything they could to ignore on the third Ravnica block.

Alison Lührs was the major lead of story/narrative during the majority of my time playing magic. She left in 2022. Ixalan was the only block she wrote the story for. You'd think she would push more for that relationship being portrayed more given that she personally made the Vraska and Jace relationship so compelling.

The funny thing is. With the death of Vraska and Jace there is only one heterosexual couple left in the whole of mtg story the Wanderer and Kaito. Yet another example of how mtg is the gayest game ever. On the bright side, they brought Lührs back to write Vraska's short story in MoM.

the Wanderer and Kaito
To be fair, Wanderer is the only girl in the setting worth fucking.

Liliana is outright evil and not in the fun way
Chandra is an ADD lunatic who will domestically abuse you
Nissa is a BPD cat lady in the making
Kaya is an Afronigger

Once upon a time Chandra was pretty choice, but they kept making her more and more tumblrite to the point now... eh I'd have to be pretty drunk. (and also not a robot) Jaya in her prime could also get it.

Elspeth was up there. When they let Kasmina enter anime mode she's top tier. Rowans seems to be going off the deep end so I guess we'll be losing another hot blonde.

Yeah we pretty much only got about 3 pw babes left now and one of those just became an untouchable angel now. :(

Damn, I guess I was premature congratulating them for limiting the amount of retarded bullshit commander garbage at printed at rare/mythic for the last couple sets, dumb shit is back on the menu.

Ward – Pay 3 life.

Whenever you gain life, ~ explores. Then, destroy all other creatures if Amalia’s power is exactly 20

The clock might be OK as a fun of one of for control decks though

That first card combos with Wildgrowth Walker, Grim Captain's Throne is Party without being party and like Party it would be cooler if it weren't limited by creature types.

Big difference is that you can craft out of your graveyard in addition to the battlefield. So if you dump say... Zacama or Gishath (and some other big expensive shit) into your GY, you can then craft them into the Grim Captain who can then spit them out on attack for free.

The clock also specifies "time" counters on it so you can "proliferate" on it via the Dr Who "time travel" cards if you wish and see how fast you can accelerate doomsday.

I swear that thing was once an un card....

Despite Hasbro's stock being at a 7-month low, after missing earnings estimates, Wizards of the Coast is doing very well, profit-wise, and Hasbro is continuing to use them as a crutch, while their other divisions are losing money. Notable details are:
  • Revenue increase of 40% driven by >100% increase in Digital and Licensed Gaming revenue behind Baldur's Gate III from Larian Studios and to a lesser extent Monopoly Go! from Scopely.
  • Tabletop revenue increased 18% behind growth in MAGIC: THE GATHERING including Wilds of Eldraine and Commander Masters releases and continued strong sales of Universes Beyond including The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth sets.
  • Operating profit grew 99% and operating profit margin of 48.0% was +14.3 margin points versus last year behind high-margin digital gaming revenue and growth in MAGIC: THE GATHERING.

"Arena Whales are Whaling"

I saw a New Cappenna Fat pack on sale for 50% last week, I about bought it, I am sure your table top card game is doing super well.

I've always wondered about how MTGO's card prices are doing, due to all the reprints. Do they remain the same in reference to tickets or what?

I know everyone was waiting to find out the most important part of the MTG story.

Insert "marvel crossover ahead of schedule" joke here. (j/k it's fist of suns)

Finally... damn. I don't think I've ever seen the alt art work so hard to make someone ugly.
