Some voices are meh but they nailed Deedlit. Really captures that slightly annoying yet very beautiful and helpful elf energy.
Lisa Ortiz's Deedlit really was a shining boon to the cast of that show. She's often said that she tried to bring a "Disney princess" sort of quality to how she performed the role, and for a world as rich and fairy tale-esque as Lodoss War, really fits. Something that I really appreciate about Deedlit in the dub version is how Lisa's range as a comedic and serious voice actor benefits the role. For those comedic moments, you can hear the actress play on that impish mischief that she brought to Leena Inverse in Slayers, but then you have those moments where Deedlit puts on the stoic voice for chanting spells, or that reassuring warmth for scenes like that one where she's with Parn on the castle wall, strumming on that guitar. Lisa Ortiz just nails it.

Parn's VA Bill Timoney gets a lot of flak for his whiney Luke Skywalker farmboy portrayal, but I grew to like his voice. People often forget that he was pulling double duty as VA and voice coordinator, since at the time, they were recording the dub with very strained resources. He grew into his character by the end, and apparently loved playing Parn so much, that he would apparently take two flights to LA weekly to reprise his role for the TV Series. His version of Parn is a lot more mature and relaxed in that one, and a pretty big step up over how his portrayal in the OVA.

It's funny, because even though the dub for Lodoss War is such a mixed bag, I've grown so accustomed to it over two shows that whenever I read the manga or the novels, the dub actors are the voices I hear in my head, wonky 90's delivery and all.

now onto the TV show.
Word of warning about the TV series: it was produced under extremely tumultuous circumstances, with weak animation and a dub that was produced under even more disastrous constraints than the first one.

The first 8 or so episodes are okay, but if you find yourself struggling beyond that point, I highly recommend checking out the Chronicles of the Heroic Knight manga as an alternative. It's better paced, boasts superior art, has gorier battle scenes, and features more elements of the original novels in its plot (including whole characters and subplots that were cut from the show due to budgetary issues).

You explained it really well. She has a powerful range you really only get from someone who was taught; I presume she wasn't given the VA industry, which makes her all the more impressive.

I was really impressed with how his vocals developed. You don't often get to see any more someone start out at the bottom and grow into the character. TV show Parn is a absolute Chad.

As far as im concerned, the jank is part of the charm. Its from the 90's, the era of cheese and ham. I expect, no, demand it.

Would you believe I've seen worse lol? Yeah it's kinda jank, but compared to some shit I've trudged through- the Chaos Head anime flashes to mind- it might as well be Ufotable. I will read the manga tho, especially since they've recently been issuing reprints at the local barns and noble I've noticed

Undead Unluck is a real good read. I hope people give it a shot despite the non-standard protagonists.

There's something off about that Mechazawa guy, I can't put my finger on it but he just don't look normal.

I liked the beginning of Undead Unluck before it became typical SJ slock.

Oh also wanted to recommend King of Eden. It's probably the best werewolf manga to date imo. It's written by Nagasaki Takashi (known for Pluto and Billy Bat) and a Korean artist, Lee Sang Cheol

A solid werewolf manga/manhwa

I wasn't expecting the characters to be as endearing as they were, nor how out there some of the major plot points were.
I don't usually say something is "mind-blowing", but the bit with Galaxy definitely qualifies.

I like what the Galaxy UMA says about all other things in the setting. Recently got confirmed that Sickness is also an UMA, so you got to wonder what the first few worlds were like.
