People with BPD can be very loving and devoted. My wife is BPD and she is the only partner I've ever trusted completely. 99% of the time she is a wonderful person, but when she is pushed too far, she becomes depressed and tries to hurt herself.

You just need to be patient and understand the condition. When they are in an abnormal mental state, they do things they wouldn't normally do.

As for compulsive serial killers, if they are deemed to be mentally ill, then they are treated accordingly psychiatrically, because our law recognizes that people who make decisions from a deranged state of mind are not culpable for the consequences.

Maybe Ashley is just a sociopath and has no actual reason for victimizing her mother. However, in cases where people have had mental health issues from a young age, it is sometimes caused by something genetic, or some serious event. If not genetic, then it is possible her mother did do something seriously wrong. Sometimes a mother will just stand by and turn a blind eye as her daughter is molested or raped. The fact that she was sexually-active from the age of (12? 14?) Seems to indicate she had some sort of experience that she was probably thrust into.

This is all speculation of course, but in a case where a person has literally resolved to kill themselves as slowly and painfully as possible, I think it is best not to add to whatever considerable burden they must have.

I only hope that she can reconcile with her loved ones before her condition takes her.

BPD is a pretty fucked up thing to have; it's like narcissism where the world revolves around you... Except rather than loving yourself, you fucking hate yourself and think everyone is out to get you.

It's called a "personality disorder" because it is literally part of your personality, so it's impossible to totally eradicate. Symptoms of it can be helped sorta with meds, but overall it's just a horse shit existence of suffering, self loathing, and paranoia that the victim gets to enjoy until they die (often at their own hands).

It's one of the nastier disorders to have.

But no, it doesn't pardon behavior. Part of life and living in a society is being able to control and contain whatever shitty issues you have as a person. It DOES explain some stuff, though, like her hatred for people, her eating disorder, her self centeredness, her seeming total disregard for those around her.

I don't see what's so hard about this.

You can acknowledge that someone has had a shitty past and hold them responsible for how they cope with it. You can feel sorry for shooters who grew up in broken homes and loathe that they murdered innocent people. Its not a given fact that her intentions are purely malicious, even if they are harmful.

From the accounts that her enemies gave of her, she sees anorexia as a competition. She wants to be the thinnest there is. So in her mind, anorexia is a good thing.

We also know that when she is angry and cursing at someone, she wishes them to gain extra weight. To her, putting on 50 pounds is the worst thing imaginable, as one poster said.

So in her sick mind, helping others to lose weight and enjoy binge/purge food is a positive thing. It isn't of course, but that is her way of being friendly.
