That kind of Happened, Kizaru booted him through the barrier with the Lightspeed Kick while Luffy was in Snakeman..I kind of presume him getting burnt by the barrier was on the way out and he needed Gear 5 anyways to Toon his way back through it quickly without getting hurt more.

Kizaru despite being a lazy fuck most of the time doesn't seem to pull punches when he has to get up.

In all honesty him being a lazy fuck is likely why he doesn't pull punches. The faster it's over the faster he is back to being in chill mode.

To look at it a different angle Kizaru's someone who is paid for the job done, not by the hour.

More on topic for the Gear 5 discussion the other reason it's being brought out is basic story one. Now that Luffy has it every conflict the question will be "could Luffy have handled it with Gear 5?" if it is not used. So Oda has to bear that in mind for the fights and if Luffy would escalate to that if he is capable of it. On top of that let's not forget what happened the last time the Straw Hats as a crew crossed paths with Kizaru, it's already been brought up in recent chapters so we know they're aware of it too. If Luffy can Gear 5 here he would because he knows what Kizaru is capable of and it's incredibly unlikely there's an ex-member of Roger's crew out there to pull off the save this time.
 
I'm not fussed at gear 5 being used all the time. Gear 4 was already that and it's like bitching about Goku going Super Seiyan at the drop of a hat.

What a buddy of mine did observe is that Kizaru didn't seem to be cartoonified like Kaidou, though for now they've barely hit each other anyway. But yeah, I just hope it isn't artificially nerfed.

That aside, banger chapter. Keen to see how the Pacifista recovering mission goes to hell. Also, fuck Jinbei, kill him and make Sentomaru a mugi, the fucker is peak chad.

It only appears that way because Kizaru was already cartoony. He changes expression less than Droopy did in his early years and he just outmanuvered Luffy by doing crazy shit

Agreed, only contact point is luffy grabbing and yeeting him. I expect reality to warp harder the longer it goes lets see how poor Ussop gets off Zaru's grasp

Luffy just yeeting him into the ocean was kind of surprising given that would have been a death sentence for Kizaru if he hit water. Luffy doesn't usually go straight for Lethal like that.

In fairness, Kizaru is an absolute beast; easily on the same level as Akainu; what else can he do, but go for the last resort from the outset. Also does Luffy know that Kizaru can fly?

Maybe Luffy just doesn't yet know his own strength at Gear 5 (given he can have unlimited power through creativity alone), needs to learn the right ways to balance restraint.
 
Oh I am not complaining that Luffy tried to make Kizaru take a permanent swim, i just think it is weird seeing him do it to someone who hadn't pissed him off like most antagonists have done

Luffy going "This dude is to dangerous to fuck with YEEET!" is a sign that Kizaru is somebody not to fuck with.
 
Absolutely loving the set designs and costumes. The show is wearing its anime origins on its sleeves with maximum cool. The Marines literally look like Milk men wearing sneakers and baseball caps and yet still manage to convey a sense of menace. Especially since they brought in fucking Colonel Quaritch from Avatar as the Marine Base commandant in the pilot. Damn Stephen Lang is great at playing an evil military man. This is a show that knows the world building trends towards the absurd, so it just rolls with it without mention and somehow it works. And it clearly didn't take a million fucking dollars. Whoever did Costume design is a fucking genius.

This is how you do an Anime adaptation. You don't need massive special effects or over the top CGI. You just need to embrace the themes and what makes it cool. Which means I can completely ignore the obvious diversity quotas in the background casting because its irrelevant. Especially since the actors are actually competent.

Funny thing is all the admirals have ways with dealing with it (Aokiji freezing everything before impact, Akainu shitting a literal volcano island to get footing, gravity guy can just fuck with gravity, green bull makes a plant raft) but no way in hell any of them gets back into the fight without taking days except for gravity guy.

If we assume for a moment that none of them can use Soru or Geppo, techniques Luffy and Sanji picked up either by observing or due to fear of crossdressers rather than any formal training, all of them could also get back in other ways

Ice - can freeze entire islands in one go, creating objects that launch him back are as easy
Lava - volcano used as a propellent. In all honest I am assuming we're going to see that one of these days as Akainu pulls of a headbutt that would make E. Honda applaud
Gravity - you already covered
Plants - go look at just the stuff Usopp has used with his new ammo and say there are no plants that can launch people like something out of a Mario game

Kizaru is just the one that does it in less than a second.

Her work in Scream Queens make me think she could do this.
Unfortunately her recent social media postings make me think she'll be unwilling to drop kick a mascot character. Which is very needed for this role.
