In europe and in the US (unless you live in a ranch) horse riding is just you going to a stable, paying expensive fees and riding in a circle on your horse and making him jump a bit.

My mum is a fan of horse riding competitions. I've been forced to watch this shit with her all the time as a child and the horses would just prance around and jump for a bit. Yeah, VERY MANLY. There are of course horse races too, but I wouldn't exactly call them manly either because there is nothing manly about sitting on a poor horse who has to do the whole job for you so your retarded ass can win a medal and hitting it with a stick.

Women are probably preferred for this stuff because they are lighter and more graceful. Also, some women are obsessed with horses, to the point that there exists a distinct subculture of horsegirls. Men just prefer cool cars, I think.

It's one of the few sports women tend to be better at than men. Unless you're talking about cavalry, women tend to be better riders due to not weighing as much. You'll notice that most jockies are manlets for this very reason.

Horses are very much like children and women are just naturally better equipped for dealing with that. Also 90% of the time at the yard/horse show is gossiping and buying your horse matching outfits which generally isn't what men are into.
When you get to the top levels there are plenty of men because their riding careers don't get interrupted by pregnancy.
