I kind of disagree with the digital photo album idea on the basis that it could all disappear with a fatal computer mishap.
That and it's getting much more difficult in recent years to find a photo service that can produce decent prints that won't turn to shit ten years down the road. Everything from the stock to the inks/dyes they use is engineered to be cheap, not archival quality.

The one good trend that came about from Tiktok is people's habit of putting every word they say on the screen so that I don't have to listen to their unpleasent vocalizations

Cool display box...for a 200 dollar toothbrush lol. Seriously, lights and sounds for a toothbrush, even if it's Iron man and that kinda makes sense. You can buy a lot with 200 but waste it on a toothbrush. Lmao.
he keeps talking about how cool it is but i dont think i can bring myself to call anything made from plastic "the coolest thing evah"
theres just a barrier of sorts in the way

Something made of metal or wood and glass is fucking cool. Like one of those Nixie Tube clocks

Tells time, and fits with any decor. I'd spend good money on that.

Some people like to listen to music as close to how it was intended to be heard instead of through shitty laptops, bluetooth speakers or $10 Chinese headphones. But I’ll grant you, once you hit a certain quality threshold the difference is non-existent and you’re paying for clout. Ideally you’d have production monitors with a flat frequency response so nothing in the EQ is artificially boosting the sound.
I bought a pair of studio monitors for my own mixing and mastering, but they're fantastic for just listening on. It doesn't hurt that they're built like a brick shithouse and are likely the last pair of speakers I'll ever need to buy.

i think its not just the look but also the knowladge of how cheap plastic is and how long it lasts, or rather, doesnt last
youre paying 200$ for something that took a barely precentage of that to manufacture, and is gonna last you a very, very short time

Studio monitors are one of the last consumer products that are built to last, mine will be passed onto my children for sure. I got mine second hand and I use them every day so the money spent was well worth it. Plus they’re so versatile, a friend has the same model Adam’s as I do but has them hooked up to a record player, sounds incredible.

Yeah, electric toothbrushes, unless you shell out, don't last the longest. This is a toy, a display piece. This thing is going to wear out, battery lose its charge, and worse, get grimey from all the toothpaste.

Genuinely do electric toothbrushes do anything? At all? they spin so slowly and so weakly that you can stop them by pressing on em a little too hard, and I find that I generally can't be bothered with them and just use them like a regular one
I have tons of em purely because I know people who worked in factories and got me buckets of em for free, but I hardly ever end up using that function

Depends on the brand. The Oral-B series is pretty solid and actually has enough power properly clean your teeth in lieu of manual brushing.

I have one from Philips that my dentist recommended. It spins fast and doesn't stop if you press too hard and is better at cleaning your teeth since it scrubs hard enough to brush away junk while not scrubbing too hard and eroding the enamel (which can happen if you manually brush too hard).

You also have to pay good money for it, like I got mine a decade ago for like $25 and you have to buy new heads every few months. I know the shitty sort of electric toothbrushes you're talking about though.

I bought myself a metal tea strainer a week or two back and it's made loose leaf tea just as convenient as pre-bagged.
Coffee-wise, I never found drip all that inconvenient. It takes 10 minute tops to prep a pot of coffee and that's if you have to clean it up from a previous brewing. The leftover coffee can be stored in a mason jar and either enjoyed cold or reheated in a microwave. Hell, blend some cold leftover coffee with a bit of ice, a pinch of cinnamon, and a table spoon or two of creamer and you've got the perfect iced coffee for hot days.
Drip's not bad at all. It's the best choice for an office where many people will be drinking it. For just you and yours at home, buy the beans, grind em in an autogrinder, and just use a french press. Coffee tastes better, you use less of it, you can chuck the grounds out your window, and there is no actual waste in terms of filters or anything else. Just the actual bag the beans came in when you're done. It takes like 5 mins out of your morning to make it that way, too.

Buy old analog clocks and repair them. You'd be surprised how retard easy they are to fix. And they're really fucking satisfying hearing em tick-tock away and chime on the hours.

That sounds very thrifty, I just have no interest in it lol. I just like nixie tube clocks is all. But if you want a bullet proof alarm clock, one of those GE alarm clocks from the 90's. The fuckers just don't die.

i dont know how people can stand the sound of clocks ticking, it drives my piss up the wall
very irritating noise

ive been looking for a mechanical alarm clock that doesnt tick, no clue how to find one
well, one i can afford that is

It hits close to home because my grandmother left me over 100 photo giant albums that I'm in the process of digitizing because 1) they are rotting away and 2) they take up an entire wall and if I don't do this, they're just going to be trashed.
Yeah, definitely. Digitize it then keep all the precious photos in a sealed box that's water proof. Collect annotations from your family and layout the pages with the annotations alongside the photos. Print it all in C2S and bind it in hardcover. Oh, and have someone particularly sentimental in your family write an introduction.
In my case, I'm on the fence about photos and photo albums in general. I ended up with about dozen large albums from my parents after they died - in addition to a bunch of my own albums from 20-30 years ago. All just taking up space in storage boxes in my basement.

On the one hand, it does bring back fond memories of parties, holidays, long-gone relatives, etc. But on the other hand, so many of them are repetitive, same people, same holidays, just different year. Maybe it made some sense when the events and people were recent, but literally nobody is going back to look at them now. My albums haven't been out of that box in over 15 years, and I'm sure mom's albums will end up the same way.

I know mom would sometimes sit down and flip through her old photos, reminiscing and "living in the past" as she tended to do, but that's not really my thing. Part of me regrets getting sucked into all that wasteful expense at a time when I couldn't really afford it, and ending up with thousands of photos shoved into albums that no one cares about any more.

And now the thought of spending countless hours digging through ~60 years of photos just to digitize a handful of them fills me with dread. More time spent, and for what? The past 20 years of my photos are already digital and nobody looks at those either, except the few I post on Facebook.
