David needs an adventure. His life has become unfulfilling. He tried to replace his life with the internet and it didn't make things any better. He tried to buddy up with the indie-scene hipsters but between being a frumpy white dude and delivering a game with a shit art theme (in an industry where quirky art has become more prized than gameplay), he has failed completely, publicly, and spectacularly.

Phil fucking Fish got more acceptance and respect from the SJW gaming scene than David.

For the rest of his life, anyone who googles him will find how he bet his reputation on a half-assed vidya gaem, buddied up with the Top Victims of AGG, and was subsequently shunned for saying something that any reasonable adult would find innocuous.

Yet despite all this he still refuses to man the fuck up and leave social media. David's the kind of guy self-help books were made for; educated but lacking the common sense to take control of his failings without a step-by-step path laid out for him.

If he keeps doubling-down on his bad choices he, exactly like Nora, will keep being unhappy and blaming other people for that unhappiness. You'd think that, as gamers, they would recognize a pattern of failure eventually and adapt by changing strategies. Instead they just keep on screwing themselves over while demanding that the patriarchy be dismantled, and expecting that somehow magically their lives will transform and society will be helped by relentlessly shitposting about identity politics on twitter.

If you could take David back in time to let the young kid version of himself see what he would become, he would be so disappointed. "You mean I just sit around yelling about white people all day?".

I wonder what the exact moment was that Davids life shifted into relentless dissatisfaction. Or maybe he was simply always generally unpleasant and twitter just enabled him to broadcast that unpleasantness to a wider audience.

Either way he and Nora both need to get the hell off the online and go live while they're young enough to be able to enjoy it. Maybe it's too late, though.

A lot of people play vidya to achieve things that they find impossible in real life. For people like DSP, Nora and Dave here, "thinking ahead and planning your next move" exists solely in the virtual world... If even then.

Until you manage to actually improve your life, you cannot act like you are somehow better than us. Get a job that pays like your job with the CRA did. Put more effort into your digital experiences.

To be fair, Phil Fish released a game a lot of people actually liked. I thought Fez was good long before I knew who he was. Gallant released a game about how shitty his life is.

Phil stole the art and assets, he just wasn't outed for doing so until he'd left the industry.
