>"3D All Stars is a shameless cash grab! It's just roms running in an emulator for $60 with minimal changes, it costs more than the games would have cost individually on the Wii U Virtual Console, the menu look likes a PowerPoint presentation, it was released soon after the PC port of Mario 64 that supersedes it in every way, it has obvious bugs that only appeared in old Gamecube emulators, they skipped Galaxy 2 and didn't include it in marketing that talks about the series' history, and they stopped selling it after half a year to manipulate people through FOMO!"
>"Yes I bought it anyway, why do you ask?"

To everyone who bought 3D All Stars and has ever complained about an overpriced GC/Wii to Switch port... you did this. You are the reason Nintendo gets away with this.

To me with a switch 2, if it isn't backwards compatibly, its a no go for me, but i seriously wonder the rumors that say the new Nvidia chip will support DLSS or RTX on the switch. think, ray tracing, on a fucking nintendo switch. But to me a switch 2 needs to have a couple things to sell me.
1. Backwards compatiblity
2. some older switch games get a patch for a performance boost.
3. Battery life similar to modern switch units (4-7 hours)
4. Achievements for games would be nice
5. and fucking more than 64gb of internal storage like on the OLED model
Agree with all, except 4. Achievements only suck the joy out of playing the games. And attract tryhards who act insufferably

Nintendo fantards do not understand that it was a cash grab until three years later when they took too long to finally open their eyes and realize this. My good god, this unsurprising that consoomers are braindead so they listen to their own selves rather everyone else

My own favorite example of "better hardware not necessarily being better aesthetically" is Mario The Lost Levels.
Link's Awakening DX looks like somebody went through the game with mspaint, using nothing but the fill tool. It's so obvious it's monochrome art that got colored in after the fact. Every GBC DX "upgrade" probably has some of these symptoms, but LA is an oft-cited case of the second version being "objectively" better, allegedly.

What’s wrong with it?
Eh what's wrong with a black background? It looks like a level intro/clear screen that they randomly repurposed as a background just so that screen would look more Super Nintendo-y, and the art style doesn't even match. You don't run across a lot of random floating MC heads as backgrounds in games, so it can't be just me who thinks it's weird. Whole game looks pretty cheap and mismatched in that way imo, I'd rather just have ye olde pixelblock graphics. I find SMB1 to be pretty easy on the eyes for what it is, much better-looking than comparable games like Metroid 1, Kid Icarus, whatever.

Imagine buying Skyward Sword the first time around

Nintendo files dozens of patents for Tears of the Kingdom mechanics

Pokemon Presents allegedly stole fan-made music

Nintendo can go to hell and I hope this all gets thrown out. Jesus christ.
Keep in mind, this is the same company that patented the D-pad (which is why Playstation and Xbox had slightly different, grossly inferior versions) and patented the fear meter mechanic from Eternal Darkness and are the reason that mechanic and its effects have never really appeared in other games.

I'll never understand this mentality. Achievements don't take anything away from a game, so why not just ignore them? I'm pretty sure modern consoles + Steam even let you disable achievement notifications if the little sound bothers you that much.
The thing is, the Wii U kind of had achievements, they were just underdeveloped. A lot of first party games had stickers that were unlocked through specific means and could be posted to that game's Miiverse. All they had to do was add an account-wide sticker book where you can view yours and your friends' stickers, and let users post unlocked stickers to any Miiverse page instead of being limited to that specific game. That would have not only given stickers more use, but also given Nintendo a functional achievement system that actually does something beyond bragging rights. And for the Switch? Just let users showcase their favorite sticker on their profile pic.

It's a one-screen bonus room, I don't think it needs to be too elaborate as long as it gets the point across that you found a secret. Besides, the actual underground areas have more detail.

Though I will agree that the SMB3 remake handled bonus areas better by giving them a unique background.

Otherwise have no issues with everything else. Give us 500 gigs of internal memory minimum, that cost me 30 for a sim card that could do that, so that should be easy on Nintendo's end
I should point out that I really doubt the new console will do anything higher then 1080p, and if so game sizes should stay about the same. But yeah I do expect internal memory to be bumped up a little bit, but only to an internal metric of the average space used by users. If cartridges are still popular the storage space might not increase a lot.

Memory is dirt cheap, no excuse on a brand new console not to upgrade to at least 500 GB. As for the specs, that's a bit low. They could hit at least 1440p and keep costs low if they play it right. Also just make the OLED screen standard. It uses less power overall which means more power for the core and graphics

As for me, ordered Fate Extella yesterday at a decent price. I'm gonna need one of those Cartriage carry cases soon lol

I doubt the OLED will come standard, at least on their base model, too much of a price bump when they would probably prioritize other components for the same cost. Otherwise, 1440p is a stretch at least for portable mode, I'd expect 1080p max in portable, with DLSS being used for higher resolutions in docked.

I mean I'm just looking at tech where it is now. You're probably right, Nintendo usually goes the conservative approach route, I just think the tech is there

The tech is there, the cost isn't. The Steam Deck was basically made at cost, if not sold at a loss, when it launched at $400 for the base model. You can certainly go higher, like the ROG Ally and whatever all the other brands are doing, but you are then bumping the price up to $700+. Given the $300 base price of the Switch, that poses a pretty tight restriction, especially given Nintendo won't use the console as a loss leader the same way Microsoft or Sony does.

Yeah they actually like making a profit on their consoles. So either they wait years for the cost to go down, or go conservative. They'll choose the latter, seeing how've they built their consoles the last 4 generations

They could hit at least 1440p
serious question: what even is this
I started having difficulty discerning differences in quality by the time 720p came around- now, years later, I can kind of sort of make out the difference between it and 1080... but anything past that is just retarded. There is almost no difference and I find it completely useless. What's the point? Does it have a better refresh rate or higher pixel density or something?
