All discussion of the candidates, updates and results should go here

For example- here's a video of Ted Cruz vying for world domination.

Also Hilary Clinton is a crook and nobody should have sex with her.

Discuss

(Note- The title will change as we get nearer the election, previous titles will be archived in the OP)

So people freaked out today at Trump using a five pointed star on an infographic claiming it was the star of David and therefore anti semetic.

If I was the American left I'm not sure I would criticize someone else for being anti Semitic. Glass houses and all that.

I actually just saw the picture on the news and it was, in fact, a six-pointed star. Perhaps not the wisest decision, but I attribute it to nobody noticed it or made the connection, rather than actual anti-Semitism.

Hmmm Trump just tweeted that "a little birdie" told him Hillary won't be charged and the case will be dropped Monday.

Not that I am surprised, saddened yes, but not surprised.

Tbh the biggest reason why people don't care about the Clinton email scandals is because they have scandal fatigue, if that makes sense.

The right-leaning elements of the country since the 90s has tried to pin everything on Hillary from stealing White House china to murdering a man.

I'm not saying that what Hillary did isn't serious and a total violation of the rule of law, but this point the general public doesn't give a shit.

People in this country are far too busy worrying about NASCAR, the Kardashians and what they're gonna buy at Wal-Mart to be bothered by trivial shit like public officials' affairs.

It's actually a pretty bug fucking deal. If Hillary Clinton gets off the rule of law essentially collapses. It sends the message to everyone that if you have enough money or status you are above the law. A defining trait of the U.S justice system used to be equality. It didn't matter if you were a homeless man or Bernie Madoff. If you broke the law you were punished.

We've already seen this problem with the responses made to the torture of prisoners by the US. Torture is illegal under any number of US and international laws, yet those involved walked.

I completely agree in principle, but you're dead wrong about one thing -there was no "used to". There has never been a period where the Rule of Law was perfectly applied. There were most definitely points in time where the authorities tried harder and gave a shit, but there have always been people who put themselves above the law, and people who were beneath the law.

This isn't "trying" at all. She's guilty and every legal professional agrees she's guilty. This is basically "yea she committed multiple felonies but she's rich and has a vagina so we'll let her go.

The implications of this are staggering. We have a presidential candidate who fully intends to operate outside the law. That's really scary.

Nixon's escape via pardon by Ford is arguably an example, though Ford's power to pardon Nixon was his as president. The bigger issue with that action was less that it was done than the fact that it was done before a trial. As pardons are supposed to follow and not prevent judicial decisions, Ford had sidestepped the courts and damaged the specter of the law in the process.

The fact that Nixon accepted the pardon Ford presented to him was, by law, an acknowledgement that he had in fact been guilty.

Clinton is a symptom, not the disease. Rich people get away with horrible shit all the time, the only thing notable about Clinton is that she's running for public office rather than going to the Cayman Islands.

Doubt until the end folks. It makes it more fun for us.

And this is why Trump is gonna end up winning.

Well he has a ways to go considering he's pissed off nearly every single demographic.

So apparently Corey Booker is set to (potentially) be Hillary's running mate.

If I dare say "I will not vote for Clinton/Booker" on some political site manned by lots of Clinton supporters, I guarantee that someone will automatically accuse me of being sexist/racist.

Calling it now.

No the reason people don't care is because, to the average person, it ranks as one of the stupidest possible scandals in existance. When you see in just the last few years, politicians engaged in sex traffricking rings, selling the president's senate seat, literally saying the vagina has automatic defenses against rape, something the average person can actually see themselves doing "fucking up with email" doesn't rank. At all.

It has nothing to do with Hillary in particular, and everything to do with the contents of the scandal itself.

Our secrets aren't important, and should be trusted to a private server in her bathroom. That everyone who is someone in Washington and their favorite whores probably went in at one point or another.

Okay, sure, fine and dandy.

But as someone whose father works for UASPO, Hillary's emails included drone strike information, spy satellites, and reports on intelligence findings.

All this in a server, in her bathroom.

Funny how you never see sample size or other methodology details in these polls, isn't it?

There's also the slight matter of most Americans not paying enough attention to the process to appreciate the significance of things like this. That inattention is what let's problems slip by as easily as they do.

To be fair most Americans aren't NEETs who spend 10 hours a day every day alternately reading world news or mocking the mentally challenged (and if you don't think a signifigant portion up to a possible majority of this site is NEETs you are lying to yourself), they have more mundane things to worry about like their job, and the mortgague, and little timmy failing English class. A lot of the time people here seem to think the farms is representative of how the average person thinks, which is retarded. The average person simply doesn't have the time to research shit.

The truth is no matter who is in charge things don't actually change, and what politicians say and what they do is different too. That said, between Hillary and Trump being the choices this year, I'm fairly certain I'm going to go in, vote for my state representitives, and just make one of those useless protest votes for POTUS, because Christ neither of them should be anywhere near positions of power. I'll take fucking Romney at this point. Fuck it I'll take PALIN.

TL; DR version From http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/

"Our win probabilities come from simulating the election 20,000 times, which produces a distribution of possible outcomes for each state. Here are the expected margins of victory. The closer the dot is to the center line, the tighter the race. And the wider the bar, the less certain the model is about the outcome."

The full explanation of how they get their numbers is here: http://fivethirtyeight.com/features...ethirtyeights-2016-general-election-forecast/

At least on the bright side Trump has risen to 21.9% chance of becoming president with Hillary sliding to 78.1%

My problem with uninformed voters is not them going out and voting without being informed. My problem is that these people go out and vote without being informed on the matters at hand...and then they bitch about the results that ensue because they didn't look into those very same matters.

If you're going to vote without knowing what to expect on the ride, fine--but be prepared to go along quietly with what you voted for.
