It’s not like Muslims are something new, they’ve been in Europe since the 60ies-70ies.

And the early Muslim immigrants were far more liberal than the ones now. As in: They drank alcohol, didn’t wear hijabs.

What happened since is similar to what happened in the Moslem world as a whole. They became significantly LESS liberal with time.

Their kids became more conservative than the parents, and the grandkids became even more conservative.

There has always been outliers, and out group behavior is sometimes tolerated as long as they’re not too public about it. American Moslems also tend to be a tad more liberal than European ones.

But there’s no reason to expect Moslems to become more liberal. (Which is exactly what people thought would happen and didn’t. Moslems for the most part still live in ethnic enclaves ruled by tradition, family ties and reputation. If you go to European ghettos there’s no shortage of these parallel societies where people have been on unemployment for generations.)

If you look at opinion polls in the Muslim world as a whole, you’ll quickly see that the usual opinion divide you see between generations on issues like for example homosexuality, doesn’t exist. Young Muslims are just as likely to believe homosexuality should be criminalized as their parents.
