This is clearly on a hospital bedside table/tray. Here's a sample pic for reference, though Jack's looks multileveled.

I agree: that's definitely an overbed table. Your photo is also of a multi-level table; either the top slides or a hidden leaf slides out of the top, to change the elevation and provide a surface a tray can fit on without making the patient move their things.
That red terry-looking item could be a balled-up Fall Risk sock.
If Jack is talking about needing to poop, it probably means he's on heavy duty painkillers which will make you constipated. So he's still in ICU on intense pain medication, I am guessing Jack has most likely had heart surgery. Maybe a couple of stents placed in, some kind of bypass procedure, you can go up through a vein in the leg/crotch for those. I think if it was open heart surgery then he'd not be able to post to social media so soon.
Jack could just be making a poop joke; he wasn't very clear and that's about his level of sophistication.
Isn't Jack's diet meat and cheese, with occasional binges on sugar alcohols? Constipation is not unknown to him. However, as soon as you're admitted to a hospital, your bowel date is
recorded. The nursing staff is going to start their routine measures if it's looking like hasn't/isn't going to poop at least every three days--or if his imaging showed an incidental finding of a high stool burden.
Assuming he's in for an MI, Jack's not going to be on a huge amount of pain medication. He'll have that initial morphine for chest pain, and likely oral medication as needed for post-op pain if appropriate, but the point of any percutaneous interventions is to fix the root cause of the chest pain. (If he was only stented, that tiny access point is not going to get much sympathy from the prescriber.)
Then again, we don't know what Jack was taking at home; he could have had a daily Norco regimen going on that he never mentioned after his ortho surgeries or general wear and tear on his body.
Plenty of open hearts are fine to dick around on their phones once they're out of Recovery and back on the unit. They might have a hard time finding a comfortable position, and will probably do some drunk posting, but it's not improbable.
