Given all the asshurt from the SJWs, AVGN fanboys, celebs, fellow internet critics and pretty much everyone else over the internet. I'd say either too much, or Sony's just watching this unfold with a cigar while wondering why the hell they didn't start this.
 
It's obvious someone is pulling the strings here, because I otherwise can't think of a good reason why so many people from the industry just crawled out of the woodwork to shit on some small guy they have never heard of before in their life.

Are they that intent on making the movie as unappealing as possible?

I don't think so.

Normies won't care, they see "AVGN shits on movie" and move on with their lives if they even read the article. In that way, he's the perfect target when you think about it - James is decently famous online but not really mainstream famous. He's decently big, but not too big to upset mainstream audiences when you take a big shit all over him. Plus he won't really fight back because it's not in his nature.

I dunno, given the amount of "popularity" his video's gotten, this could legitimately get him more noticed by the casual audience. Though whether or not they agree with the general consensus of "ZOMG, JAMES IS BEING AN INSENSITIVE SEXIST" is up to them.

If they actually watched the video, then there is literally no way one could view what Rolfe said as sexist, unless you were either paid to do so, or (Like morons like Lindsay Ellis) jumped on the fast rolling bandwagon, a bandwagon that's heading straight off a cliff along with this box office bomb.
