The Cockney accent is pretty much extinct at this point. Also, Grade needs to shout all the time to keep it up because having inflections in the voice would cause the accent to falter.

Grade doesn't speak with a Cockney accent. He speaks with an exaggerated Midlands accent, probably Leicester if I had to guess.

I watched some of his videos when they got upvoted to Reddit's front page and thought they were okay, though very "what's the deal with airplane food, huh?" style humor. The backlash was inevitable as it always is when Reddit really likes someone, but I wouldn't have guessed it'd happen this suddenly and this hard.

I still find his non-drama videos enjoyable, in a mild way. Plus I think Vegan Gains and Tyrone Magnus have potential for lolcowdom. Might look into it.

Oh trust me, Vegan Gains is a complete drama-filled rabbit hole. I've been down that road enough to know what to do for a thread about that douchecanoe. Tyrone Magnus is related to a few manosphere/loveshy cows from what I remember so he's probably a good one too.

On Topic: Sad to see Grade stand by that racist garden gnome.

Not Midlands and definitely not Leicester.

Not Midlands and definitely not Leicester.
I'd call it more of a generic 'common British' accent, albeit not an accent you'd probably hear in real life - more a mash-together of a variety of accents, possbily like someone who moved about a bit as a kid. Definitely sounds like it could be from the London/South-East England area (not cockney), but with Midland-y twangs.

Listening to the way he pronounces some words I'd put money on him having Indian or Pakistan parents but having been born and lived in the UK (South East England).
I quite liked a few of his videos. I didn't mind his odd drama one but the "I hate drama, let's stop the drama" stuff is getting stupid. Nail in the coffin was the garden gnome.

yeah definitely
first time i heard his voice, i thought he had indian ancestry and probably grew up in the south-east of england
turns out the first bit was true since he leaked his face by accident
most people stop talking that quickly when they leave school though, hardly ever heard anyone out of school speak like that
maybe his teaching past caused him to keep up his schoolboy jabbering due to hearing it from his students because he speaks like a 14 year old

I occasionally watch his videos, some of them are okay. I kinda stopped after he kept calling out tons of "shitty YouTubers," but then would suck Keemstar's dick. I'm not defending the people he calls out, but I find it kinda hypocritical that he does this and then appears in every other Keemstar video.
In the past Grade talked about Keemstar getting him some kind of sponsorship/job deal that would make him "over $100k" a year and let him take care of his parents financially so they could stop working. That's why he will never go against Keem; it would mean biting the hand that feeds him.

Yeah it's way more southern. I was born and grew up in Leicester and I'm not picking out really any hints of that, but then I might be biased, not wanting (another) fuckwit to be from Leicester

By his own admission, he was fired as a teacher. Someone should try to find out what happened. Someone better at digging around than me.

Personally I don't give that much of a shit, but I don't see much reason to assume he's a "Fake Brit". His "real voice" which I think he uses most of the time during his livestreams sounds real familiar to me, not really exaggerated at all. Don't forget he wasn't born in Britain, so his accent is a hybrid between an English one, and what I assume to be Pakistani.
Also, listing prices in Dollars isn't much proof either, since that definitely wouldn't make him the first Brit to do that. I know plenty of TRUE and HONEST British or Europen YouTubers to do so, since most of their audience is American, and most people outside America have a vague idea of what it's worth.

I'm just saying, since I don't think it's woth pointing out in the title if there isn't any proof outside vague assumption.

Also, anyone who says that the Cockney accent is dead obviously hasn't met me, lol.

His accent (and that little picture of his face seems to have confirmed it) is a British-Asian accent. (Brown Asian not yellow Asian)
He's not so much a fake brit as he is an immigrant, really.

IIRC, he claimed that he went against the curriculum.
I'm just imagining by "going against the curriculum" they meant that his internet career was seeping into his professional career, and he screamed at children: "Don't believe the lies!"

That's super vague at best.

I found a quote:

I'm in education. I was teaching last year but got fired from my job because me and my head of department didn't see eye to eye unfortunately. I know you're supposed to kiss the arses of your higher-ups but I didn't want to. Guy was shit at his job and I know maths better than him. Didn't take his suggestions and he didn't appreciate it too much.

I'm pretty sure that means "I pissed off my boss."

Also, for those of you debating his race:

And I have some colour, yeah. I've had a student be shocked when she found out I wasn't white. So I'm a very pale man of colour.

I got these from his AMA, but there isn't that much else. I'd just like to point out the title. Seems kinda ironic, doesn't it?

All of this Youtube drama is just a huge excuse for youtubers to make videos millions of people will click on just to get more and more ad revenue.

When H3H3 called out Leafy some time ago over "bullying" that's what it came off to me. When Pewdiepie called out "drama" that's how it came off to me. When GradeAUnderA makes a video about Youtube drama that's how it comes off to me.

These people are a business, it's hard to consider these people individuals as much as a money hungry entity. When a subject comes down off the grapevine that's just free content to make a video on, they'll take it shamelessly.

That's why it's hard for me to consider GradeAUnderA a lolcow because he is just capitalizing off this. It's more so interesting to view his subreddit explode over this.
