The section of the rebuttal where the dude criticized people who said the original video ignored that humans have colonized since civilization began and commented on why it's still important to talk about European colonization was a head scratcher. I agree with his first point, European colonization was unique in that it was truly global. There was almost no part of the world that wasn't touched by a European power in some way. That means that research into the subject, especially since it's incredibly recent, is abundant and a lot of people suffered comparatively.
But then his second point of why it should be discussed is the ideology, that Europeans knew enslaving and murdering was bad and had to justify it through dehumanization, is exactly how humans having been doing it for thousands of years. It's changed and morphed, for instance the Romans would be puzzled by the modern concept of European and enslaved people from all across the continent, but the part of the human psyche that pretends to be moral while doing heinous things was not invented by European colonizers. He also ignores that slavery as a concept was still widespread in parts of Europe, it was not magically outlawed across the entire continent and considered always a moral evil. The moral compunction Europeans had against slavery was always a religious one, and as a result Muslims were widely enslaved by Christians and vice versa, so it wasn't exactly a moral leap for Europeans to consider enslaving non-Christian natives an acceptable practice.
And funnily enough, the paper he cites only calls the Canary Islands modern Europe's first overseas genocide, not its first genocide, so he's misinterpreting things himself there.

I found this pophistory comment and i had to save it wih how hilariously stupid it is as it comes up quite frequently but if you spend anytime at all thinking about it, it makes absoultly no sense.
We know very little of vikings and most of that is from assumption or written by their enemies. But what we do know is that they were kick ass sailors and for vikings to be such good sailors they had to have some pretty good know how of math for navigation, trading and ship building.

I've never bought into this History Channel idea that women in the Viking age were somehow all emancipated shield maidens.
The Normans were notorious for their treatment of women in their own society, something that other medieval peoples and even the church would remark on. Likewise the Volga Vikings. It's fairly obvious they were just carrying on Viking traditions.
It's just that there's minimal written history of the Vikings and they're a blank canvas for fantasists.

Or it could've been a reaction to the liberated ways of the Norse, plus conversion piety, we really don't know. Also seidr was just one form of magic in the sagas we have many characters who are very proficient with runic magic and no one calls them women or even suggests that theirs anything wrong with them, but the few people who do practice siedr are scorned as women.

Finally got a mr beat video in my feed, and jesus the soy.
Anyways been reading about the waning days of the second reich (i know i know) and hilariously it was almost as degenerate as the Wiemar Republic, and a lot more hypocritical. Krupp was procuring little boys until he died likely by his own hand, when found out. You had officers doing very very gay shit and the Kaiser Wilhelm II was likely a faggot too.
