Nonfarm payrolls rose solidly in August amid an otherwise slowing economy, while the unemployment rate ticked higher as more workers rejoined the labor force, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

The economy added 315,000 jobs for the month, just below the Dow Jones estimate of 318,000. The unemployment rate rose to 3.7%, two-tenths of a percentage point higher than expectations.

It’s starting. The European energy crisis is going to kick things into high gear. There’s been important industrial corporations shutting down production because of costs of electricity. This is going to spiral and money is going to be printed off at high rate to keep the lights on until hyperinflation kicks in.

Food prices are getting goddamn ridiculous. $8 for a 5lb bag of potatoes that look like shit.

Last year, for no more than $2, I could have bought a 5lb bag of potatoes. And they didn't look like shit either.

... On a more serious note, I was told by producers there's gonna be even more fruit/nut trees shrinkflation* on our order that were commonly grown (Citrus, pecans, peaches, plums, etc). Figs (easy to grow) and pomegranates (thorny) fine. Rarer shit like walnuts and pawpaws are out of stock (Except jujube... fuck that shit).
Strangely, shit ton of wine grapes in stock. I guess everyone realized how inefficient that shit is?

*How does one shirnkflate a live plant? You grow a plant half the original size and put it in the original size pot instead of the pot size it belongs in. Fucking citrus I got came in at two feet tall instead of four feet, quarter inch caliper instead of half inch.

It is flooring to me too how much prices have gone up for potatoes too. Seems faster than wheat, but not as fast as chicken. Pork is still relatively cheap depending on the cut and if I can get beef below $4.50lb, I pick some up too. Milk is also a staple that has gone way up, though strangely, cheese not as much...yet...why I am trying to figure out how to make more than paneer, ricotta, farmer's cheese because CHEESE GODDAMNIT.

In personal fails for the year, aphids were the bane of my existence this year. I have never seen them so bad - they destroyed all of my hops and I had to cut them all down. They are currently trying to recover, but it is too late in the year for that and I'll have to cut them back to the ground again soon. They need to save their strength for next season. Aphids also attacked my raspberries, but it only somewhat affected the harvest and I was able to get them under control. The bushes are much better now. Fungal diseases are also awful and there is only so much I can do about things like powdery mildew when all the wild maples are completely covered in it. Just constant weekly spraying. I have to treat and scorch the earth around my apple trees because of fungal problems.

In lighter news, nothing has really bothered my tomatoes and peppers strangely enough. I keep waiting for the shoe to drop, but in the greenhouse, they are going gang busters. My sweet potatoes have whiteflies though and I want to neck myself. They seem to be distraction plants and I haven't seen any on any other plant yet, yet. Thinking about buying some beetles to release in the greenhouse to eat them. Deer again left my fruit trees alone, thank whatever. There have been so many coyotes, I haven't seen a rabbit in months. I got decent hauls of zucchini despite their mildew problems. All of my herbs have done well - curry, oregano, rosemary, lavender, parsley, thyme. I had no problems with my regular potatoes.

Again, I think people forget the real reason why their ancestors believed in god or gods was because this was what they had to deal with day in and day out. I just have so much respect for what they went through based on my faggot gardening and animal husbandry larping attempts.

You're fucked. Have fun unless you got a huge store of god damned imidiclorpid/binfieren. Plant spearmint, peppermint, garlic, cilantro, chives and Phacelia spp.

Fungus:
Airflow, or tree training issue. Make sure to get rid of dead foliage since that shit might spread fungal diseases. Otherwise I hope you have a lot of fungicide. Cultural control (training, wind channels to prevent humidity*, raised berms*) is key.
*Depends on if water transmitted/wind born.

White flies:
I'm sorry. Consider suck-starting your nearest firearm. Consider planting thyme, cilantro, celery, Zinnias to attract predators/repel them because lol pesticide resistance.

Like I have argued with them about freedom of speech, that you aren't accountable for the sins of your ancestors, that there is nothing inherently wrong about being German and it just bounces off of them like oil and water. Over here, the rising prices are not surprising but our government's way of handling it is kinda annoying.

A lot of people are screaming at them to lower value added tax but instead they give out bags of money to "chosen ones" including our stupid royal family.

The first time they did this was a complete fiasco because they broke their own rules, sent the money to the wrong people and did nothing about it.

Now they want to do it again. Now, I'm a dunce but I'm pretty sure it's going to do nothing to help the inflation

Secondly it's gonna be a fiasco yet again with the wrong people getting the money while nothing is done about it.

Pardon me, this just turned into a vent post about the government here and their handling of the inflation.
