Eat the bugs peasants literally if they can't do the front they do the back lol

SOME BIG FOOD COMPANIES ARE ADDING CRICKETS TO COOKIES, SNACKS, & BREAD
Firstly, link to the actual article. Secondly, archive. Thirdly:
The product, which comes from Canada,
the United Kingdom
As we reported, crickets are also now on the menu at some public schools in Wales, another country that has been co-opted by globalists from the World Economic Forum (WEF), which is behind the cricket push.

Comments talking about some of these additions potentially being harmful to people with shellfish allergies, as in potentially deadly, and chitin absorbing into the human body in such a way that it blocks the absorption of several necessary vitamins. Anyone here that could say one way or the other?
Allergies depend on the protiens causing an immune response, there may be a chance that the chitin proteins are close enough to those in shellfish to cause allergies. I don't know enough about their chemical structures however. This cross-reactivity is present in most tree nuts due to the similar compounds found. Cashew is an exception I think alongside coconut and pistachio(?)*

Can't comment on the rest, but eating insects long term may cause heavy metal poisoning. In China they realized because people eat cicadas and silkworms and ended up with mercury toxicity (It was a fella who loved eating them and ate them frequently). Needless to say, unnerving info.

*They contain urushiol (Posion oak/ivy compound that causes allergies) like cashew alongside the rest of the Anacardiaceae family so allergies do also exist.

One potential workaround is looking for the kosher logo, since insects are not kosher (except for grasshoppers of certain species in some Middle Eastern Jewish communities, but ONLY those Jewish communities). Halal logo might work too since insects are haram, but many Muslims claim locusts are halal based on a particular hadith.

Note that it is very illegal (it's fraud) to slap the kosher/halal logo on a product that isn't. Kosher rabbis make a lot of money inspecting places to make sure they're following Jewish rules. Orthodox Jews take this very seriously and of course they know many lawyers so the kosher logo will be a way of avoiding eating bugs.

God damn, thats a good idea. Imagine the hysteria if kosher or halal food was found to be contaminated?

Chopping down trees is way too much effort to get firewood in most parts of the US that aren't in the middle of nowhere. Most metro or suburban areas will have businesses that are happy to let people haul off old pallets that can be used for firewood. Pallets are also useful for making a cabin in the wilderness after you go broke and can no longer afford rent:

Earlier this year I started regularly seeing expired temporary plates on cars when driving around and it made me wonder if lots of people are letting their car registration slip because they can't afford it. I started looking at tags on license plates when driving around and I see expired tags every time I drive somewhere now. This isn't just people that let things slip for 1 or 2 months, I regularly see tags that expired 6+ months ago. It looks like a higher number of people can't afford to register their cars this year.

If its anything like my area, they stopped enforcing out of date / unregistered cars the last 2 years due to the pandemic and staff shortages at the DMV. They just started ramping up enforcement since too many people were driving around with unregistered cars. A lot of people also forget to put the new sticker on their license plate and was never pulled over so they just forgot.

Shellfish chitin is essentially the same as other insect chitin, so if the allergy is to the shell itself, then you're likely to have at least some reaction to insects.

Consistent, repeated exposure to insects can result in something like a 60% chance of developing an insect allergy. Eating the odd bug (or even having them as a small, but regular part of your diet) wouldn't do it, but if your diet consisted primarily of insects, I'd expect it's almost inevitable that you'll develop an allergy at some point.

The stock market is starting off this week extending the sell off that began last week.

It appears that the current fools rally is coming to an end, after the fed seemed to repudiate Wall Street's delusional belief that a reversal of course wrt aggressive rate hiking was coming. Whether this is the beginning of "the big one" I'm unsure, but I find it unlikely. From the 3 years I've spent watching the big 3 indexes like a hawk I've come to accept the old adage that the market can remain irrational for far longer than anybody expects. There will likely be another bounce or two, but if I had to put out a completely uninformed guess based on gut feeling alone I would say that the real slide on stock prices will likely begin after mid terms. I do believe however that we have started to see the effects of the aggressive fed policy that began this year showing up in the broader market, chipping away at asset prices. Overall the outlook seems grim everywhere, and I'm beginning to see articles that discuss whether holding onto liquid cash might have been a better move than most people expected.

TL;DR Things look real bad still and look like they're highly likely to get even worse, but you're used to that by now, aren't you?

Illinois just keeps extending deadlines for renewals and stuff. I'm not a worthless deadbeat, so I pay for my shit online when its due, but I am starting to feel like a bit of a sucker over it. All these garbage people get away with it, but there's a niggling little voice in my head that says as soon as I try it, I'll get fucked over.

You are a sucker for willingly giving the government money. I always look for ways to minimize the amount of government waste I contribute to

They just slap buzzwords on shit and everyone's supposed to eat it up (literally in this case)

I wonder if the college debt forgiveness is less about kissing ass of obvious voter base, and more keeping the grift coming because more morons will get in thinking the government will pay for gender studies degree and a lot of people defaulting might finally kill the economy completely.

I don't know about halal, but kosher meat is heavily salted due to it removing blood (which is not kosher), though if you are in a situation where it's not a butcher that is a smaller evil.

The student loan has reached a point where empty promises from the D's aren't cutting it anymore so they are forced to very very very slow roal these bailouts just to keep the voter base. It'll probably end up being an incremental 5k every 2 years as long as you vote the "right way"

It's a bailout to colleges since loan forgiveness will boost enrollment and make sure the colleges are getting paid. The problem myself and I'm sure many others have had with student loan forgiveness is that it's a subsidy to colleges to continue their wasteful spending and price gouging and not to mention keep devaluing people with 4 year degrees.

New estimates of the US GDP were released last week. The second quarter was revised from -0.9% to -0.6%. First quarter is unchanged at -1.6%. Surprising no one, it's still a recession.
