I'm not sure if I ever didn't get a douchey vibe off of anyone from TGWTG, even reviewers I tolerate or used to watch. Some were just way more noticeable or insufferable than others, hence why they got their own threads (Spoony, Linkara).

I barely know anything about Joe, though, I only watched a few of his videos and forgot about them.

Here's something I've been curious about for a while: is it the case that Doug (and a few other Channel Awesome reviewers like Nash) have a seething hateboner for the Harry Potter books/films? That's the impression I got from some of their videos.

From what I understand at least in Doug's case is that he never caught on to the craze when it was at its most popular and thus never got into the series. I don't know if he flat-out hates the series or what. I think he's mostly just meh about it.

Usually when he doesn't get into things he just goes on and on about how overrated that movie is only on the fact that he didn't like it. I'm surprised he hasn't yet skit-viewed any of the Potter films yet.

He's fucking terrified of how his retarded and autistic fanbase would take it. They flambe him on some of the dumbest movies because their autism doesn't allow them to simply disagree with him, they need to shriek with sperg rage when he shits on a movie they like because they're socially maladjusted troglodytes.

Has a review ever been that despised by his fans because they all love the stupid movie he's reviewing on? I know people crapped on him for that shitty Terabithia thing, but I can't really recall much else.

Regardless, I think the most annoying of his fans are the ones who go around quoting him like he's the gospel, and change their opinion regarding films so that it fits into what their savior thinks.

Well there was the let's play, but I don't think that counts. Either way, he did seem aware of it when he did some of his later stuff (like the James and the Giant Peach review).

I don't know of a specific review (although there probably are some) but I know they threw a massive tantrum when he didn't include Optimus Prime's death in his list of the Top 11 Saddest Nostalgic moments to the extent he addressed it in his Top 11 Nostalgia Critic Fuck-Ups video.

Fuck, that review was so horrible. He acted like he was performing an autopsy on the Shroud of Turin.

Motherfucker, you don't like Randy Newman. Your taste has enough problems without having to bend over for the most autistic people on Earth.

Every one of the videos he puts "Douchey McNitpick" in provides a perfect example of just how much he simultaneously despises and fears his fanbase. You can practically feel the contempt pulsing out from your computer screen as the video streams.

Strangest yet? His hardcore fans never actually complain about the character. I know autistic people have a harder time understanding sarcasm, but he couldn't have been less subtle if he offered their mothers a nickel for anal.

For all of Doug's talks about how he's a "refined young man", he has the tastes and maturity of a 13 year old boy (he's admitted time and time again how he likes certain movies only because they're "darker", while simultaneously insult those spergs who are all "dark and gritty iz better!!!").

This is why I think that Internet Critics subforum suggestion you had won't work. You weren't around for the brunt of the Entersphere but one of the key reasons that subforum was as awful as it was is because people from the Enter community found their way to the site and we had people derailing threads left, right and centre with Enter white knighting. Can you imagine what would happen if a bunch of Doug's fans found their way here?

That's another thing I don't like about Doug- His tastes. Now I consider myself to have tastes that aren't so hot. But simply like movies because they're "darker for dark's sake" isn't a good reason to like a movie.

His hypocrisy on many subjects are also a huge down point. Like the example you gave of him liking "darker" films while decrying those who also like them. This seems to happen a lot, from what I've seen. Like him making fun of the Star Wars prequels, only to turn around and say "Well maybe they're not all that bad after all."

I remember the James and the Giant Peach thing. It was just around the time I was trying to give NC another chance but I couldn't like his reviews like I did when I was younger. I don't even remember why people were so rabid over it, his actual review started out with like ten minutes of him having to explain why he was reviewing it and either people were telling him he needed to quit being a reviewer or they were thanking him for bringing up such a horrible, overrated film and telling others Doug was right about everything. There's no middle ground with those people.

Wasn't there another huge bitchfit by his fans about something to do with the Digimon movie? I just remember not a single commentor would shut up about it but once he finally reviewed it, talk about it went completely silent. It could just be me not noticing since I had then moved onto some other reviewers before quitting the site altogether, but they literally made it a controversy that he had changed the wall background by a few shades or something. It was literally people accusing him of giving them sensory overload because his wall was a different color. (Gee, remind you of someone?)

Hell I remember when he made a Marvel video or something and said that all Loki fans are psycho weirdos and idiots. And then later on he massively sperged and fanboyed over him in another video.

Hiding something Doug?

Well, I was around for James, but never really noticed the backlash. Mostly because I don't pay attention to the rabid fandom this guy has. So I only based my view off of the review itself. And yeah, him trying to play up the "I'm going to criticize, yet at the same time, I'm not going to" act was a big mistake, and that it came after the LP only magnified it. After that, I knew that he had hit rock bottom after a major decline.

Digimon, I heard about, but never actually seen. I have read the backlash was pretty harsh though. Either way, Doug should never review things he's got little-no familiarity with, it never works out for him. Not that he should be reviewing things he's already familiar with too, but still.

Not sure about James, but I remember the Digimon backlash. It was a joint review with some autistic weeb girl who more or less ran the episode while Doug sat in passive-aggressive silence or remarked that he didn't care for Digimon and fan pressure forced him into "reviewing" it.

His attitude was silly because he profited off of just staring into the camera while the sperg did all the work (a good deal for him) but I bet he resented having to lift a finger at all to make money.

I thought said Sperg was Nostalgia Chick. Then again, they seem to blend in after a while anyways. Just swap genitalia.

I think the weeb girl was JesuOtaku, who I recall really ticked some people off with her mannerisms and attitude in that video.

Nostalgia Critic and Nostalgia Chick reviewed Fern Gully together.

I think they did Fern Gully 2 together as well, so the first review must've made a pretty shekel. The audience was pretty split on Lindsay teaming up with Doug, iirc, though most of the autists were too busy staring at her tits and saying creepy things about her pigtails (including a few who, ahem, liked 'the younger look'). NChick is a crazy thirdwaver, but I can understand why she didn't want to be associated with TGWTG any more.
