I was going to comment to clarify this. While of course it varies from one system to another, in general you can expect the food served in jail/prison to be the shittier, bland equivalent of school lunches.All-Dressed chips are awesome. Ruffles had some in the U.S. for a while, but that no longer seems to be the case. They did introduce a Spicy Dill Pickle flavor that I'm enjoying though.
Anyway, I wasn't really talking about the snacks, it was my understanding that the cafeteria food is super high calorie, cheap shit.
A typical dinner block will have mystery meat (sometimes colloquially known as a "brake pad" due to being tough and shaped like one), "gravy", runny mashed potatoes, a side of corn or peas, a small cup of slightly sweetened water (picture a 4x diluted Gatorade knock-off), and then either like 3 knock-off Oreos or a ~2"x2"x1" brownie likely made on premises or something similar. Other meals are similarly diversified but similarly low quality. It's not enough for a regular sized person to get fat off of, if you have any activity whatsoever. This is really the key here, CICO as they say. Pretty sure they have to adhere to that 2000 calorie daily standard or thereabouts.
