I don't pretend to be too knowledgeable on the technical side of things but I'm guessing the whois location you're seeing is because of Cloudflare, which handles content delivery between the host server (which is actually in Afghanistan) and the user. Think of it as a proxy for the website rather than the user.

We utilise the services of an anonymity-providing LLC which in essence creates a splinter LLC (named Kiwi Farms LLC) for a nominal fee. Our cloudflare is generally routed through Kiwi Farms LLC and all other LLCs incorporated into the same company. This is basically standard practise against privacy-seeking content providers on the internet these days. I honestly don't understand how this is difficult for an 'astrophysicist' to understand.

If you want to press any kind of criminal or civil action against us as individuals or an organisation you will need to present Kiwi Farms with a US subpoena to provide the name of their parent corporation (unless you can obtain that info by other means), and then provide that corporation with a US subpoena to reveal the name of our non-US-based LLC, which you could then press charges against and/or arrange for a subpoena to force them to reveal our individual names and addresses (if you want to sue or press charges against us individually) or the name of our Afghan-based hosting company if you want to go after them. This is how things are done now.
